The first thing TPTB should've done at the announcement was have Lindsay stay on during the shift. If she goes, you're better off writing out Theresa all together because there's almost no way a Theresa recast is going to be well-received unless she's the best actress in the world and really gets the character.

all this speculation and contract signing is fine, but....

how man of you even HAVE directtv???

i don't, and i'm not switiching just to pick up PASSIONS. who on this board definitely has directtv or is definitely going to switch???

i'm guessing the number is pathetically small.

DirecTV knows they aren't going to get the full audience NBC gets. They factored this in. Otherwise, they wouldn't have picked up the show in the first place.

And I am jealous of you. I don't even have the option of getting DirecTV, but if I did, I would be all over it.

Priscilla Garita(ex-Gabi, BEACH) proved that even THERESA can be replaceable.

I much prefer her version to Hartley's, but that is just a matter of opinion. Garita played it less manic, more devious. I think Garita played it the way many Theresa Haters/Gwen Supporters/General Observers see Theresa. I find myself rooting for a character way more when they just pretty much admit to themselves that they are bitches, instead of trying to play 24/7 victim with themselves.

I think Harley is a wonderful actress, but I hate the way the character is written.

ETA: Should also mention that I think Hartley has her followers and that Hartley undoubtedly IS the face of PASSIONS. The show will suffer without her. But I still believe that even SHE is replaceable.

I, personally, hated Garita as Theresa. She played the character exactly the way people gripe about Passions characters, as completely one-note. Yes, Theresa's done some messed up stuff, but there are so many other facets about the character that Garita just was incapable of portraying in the short time she was in the role. I think Passions needs Lindsay more than she needs it, but at the same time what's Theresa without Lindsay?

I agree. I like Garita but part of the appeal of Theresa is that no matter what she does, she still maintain her rootability. I mean, it's of because of Lindsey's acting that we have all the heated debates and so on because she makes it hard to root against her. She IS Passions and they may as well go off without her. She has such vulnerability and her range is impeccable.

She and Harper have huge futures. Part of me just wants Lindsey to leave the show because she is just too good for it. She has been for years. I feel the same about Harper. However, if Lindsey left there goes most of Passions fans because she has a HUGE fanbase.

garita was lousy as theresa -- the show wasn't the same when she was on.

HOWEVER, all this talk about how incredible hartley is??? completely overblown.

if she were THAT great, someone else (movies, primetime, more) would have noticed by now -- and they haven't. she's a decent actress, but this is no meryl streep. some of you go on about her like she's the frickin second coming.

Not necessarily true...some of the best actors and actresses don't make it big in primetime and films...there are so many factors involved in the process

For instance, Jesse Metcalfe probably is the most well-known Passions former cast member, yet he's one of the worst in terms of acting skills.

I will say that the show would lose a good amount if Hartley leaves, but I think she would be replaceable. I would not have said that over a year ago. Now, there may be time for a re-definition of the character. Lindsay's looked bored for almost a year, and Theresa has lost a lot of her luster.

    • Wait - so no Will, Jack, or Jen at John's funeral? That’s just weird. What was the point of bringing them back then? Did Julie and Maggie even show up? I mean, seriously.

    • Has anyone ever totted up how many women on GL slept with both father and son(s)? Reva gets a lot of crap for it but she's far from the only one: Claire Beth Blake Olivia Dina Did I miss anyone?  Also, did Reva ever sleep with Phillip? They always had some "closeness" thing, but I don't know if they ever actually did the deed. If they did, then Reva's the clear winner, with TWO families covered, lol!
    • I think Long was probably planning to have Claire suffer from Post Partum, but she left the writing staff shortly after Claire had Michelle so that element didn't get explored. And I always assumed that when Claire returned in the late 90s/early 00s.. that she was realizing that she messed up by not staying a part of Michelle's life and became resentful/bitter over her previous choices.  That was my theory.
    • Jenn was a huge part of the success of Days back in the day, and that contribution shouldn't be dismissed.  With that said, I do think her and Jack's time on the show should remain as occasional visits/drop ins. When Missy returns to play Jenn, Jenn is back to being Jenn.   Jenn in her glory days was head strong, fiesty, and was a live wire.... and her scenes with Jack on Friday was classic Jenn with Jack being the voice of reason.   It was the foundation of their relationship back in the day.
    • Claire was always tightly wound, I think what Long was going to do is to throw the three into this impossible situation with no bad guys, Mo, knowing how to take care of kids from growing up but unable to conceive and Claire, who didnt know how to take care of kids and was totally focused on her career, gets knocked up.  Ryder took Claire off the deep end as a convenient way to make story for characters he wasnt interested in (though Pratt blames McTavish) with little effort. It was later explained to be a brain tumor (though why was she a bitch again when she returned?) \ Claire did sleep with Rick, she was his first!
    • I'm sorry, truly I am, but this literally made me LOL. Tempting fate, much?

    • Oh, I have very little doubt that Missy feels some way personally and privately.  Donna was just saying she actively spoke out against Days in public in reference to the gay storylines, which she did not. I don't have super strong feeling about Jen one way or another.  She was always a side character to me.  I still think Missy is Jen regardless of her stupid beliefs.
    • I hated the swap-over; Clayton Norcross, to me, was far superior in the role of Thorne than Jeff Trachta ever was. And the recast left me disliking Thorne when he was the superior son to me. As for Teri Ann Linn, I feel like she got the raw deal. Kristen was very clear as a forefronting character, especially in her rivalry with Stephanie, and it feels like she was dropped off for Felicia, and they never returned it. Not to mention the subpar recast with Tracy Melchior in 2001. Someone like Brenda Epperson (ex-Ashley, Y&R) would've been more suited for that role.
