But it is bad for ATWT if we lose another 50,000 viewers this week, which could happen it will be an all time low for us, that is not good anyway you look at it, especially seeing as in the first part of the year we were almost at 3.5 million and we were building at one point, and then Carly went away, and Gwen took over the show, and the numbers fell. Sorry but I will never understand someone saying ATWT being almost at an all time low is not a bad thing, it might be higher than some of the other soaps but that does not matter, we were in 3rd place by ourselves for a long time earlier this year, and now we are at all time lows that is not good.

As for Days hitting a new low, and bleeding so bad that is what happens when you have a idiot in charge of NBC Daytime that says the show will be cancelled in 09, why should viewers keep watching even if it gets good, if they are going to cancel it anyway. I strongly believe DAYS would have never dropped this much if that idiot did not say what he did. I don't even watch DAYS but not all of this falling is Hogan's fault or Corday, it is the head of NBC that is at fault. Sure the writing could be better, but from what I have seen hear it was even worse under JER but the ratings were never this low under him, so it is not all Hogan or Corday, sure they are somewhat to blame but not everything.

I have seen others on the board comment that they didn't believe that Days' ratings drop had anything to do with Jeff Zuckers remarks about the show basically being over in March 2009, considering that others had been speculating for years that Guiding Light would be cancelled. After some thought I wholeheartedly disagree. I'm pretty positive that Jeff Zuckers comments are the reason for the drop. The show was 1000X worse under JER and the fans never defected like they are now. Not to compare, but Days viewers are in a class by themselves and can't be compared to those that watch GL. Maybe rumors have been swirling for years about GL, but GL fans are not zealots like Days fans are. I'm sure the majority of fans know what Jeff Zucker said. With that being stated, these ratings for Days are a direct result of those comments. It truly was irresponsible for Jeff Zucker to say that so prematurely, even if that was his game plan.

Thank you! How can anyone honestly think it was merely a coincidence that the ratings started to plummet just after Zucker said that? I just don't get it. And I'll never believe that Zucker didn't know what he was doing when he made that statement. He knew EXACTLY what the effect of making some dumbass remark like that would be. It's practically common knowledge that NBC wants out of the soap business, and can't wait to wash their hands of DAYS.

The more cynical among soap fans will say that the roots of this go back to the start of the supercouple era of Luke/Laura and Bo/Hope. Because the supercouples became the focus of the shows, and soaps promoted the hell out of them, they created these rabid fanbases.

Because the internet does not represent 100% of the soap viewing audience of DAYS. Not everyone knows about Zucker's comments. And DAYS has sucked overall, if DAYS was good and it was dropping then it would have been a different story. Like Gray said it has nothing to do with the show being BETTER than JER's run. There are things that are being done that are just as bad which is why people are tuning it. When or If the ratings rise if the show gets better how is everyone going to claim that Zucker's comments are the reasons for the drops we have seen? People forgot about it?

i have to disagree with you!First NBC's Entertaimment head never said"Days is cancelled when 2009...He said"We have Days until 2009".....While they isnt a ringing endorsement,it doesnt exactly mean days is off NBC...Everyone is jumping to conclusions.So why is DAYS bleeding?ITS the damn writing.Yes it isnt horrible but it aint good either.Even Ken Corday has admitted they have made mistakes.Steve in a mental hospital;Shawn and Belle islanded off by themselves,focus on newbies and backburnering John marlena bo and hope! PUUleeze!Hogan has committed big no no's all at the same time! Jim reily made mistakes but at least he had the moneymakers on screen.We as soap viewers need to stop making excuses as to why the numbers are down on ALL the soaps...Think about it.If the fact that days has been cancelled by nbc hence the drop,why is GH falling?Why is B.B falling below a 3.0?Passions is cancelled why hasnt it fallen big time?You see the problem is in the writing.ITS THE writing! its the writing!

Soap ratings continue to drop. NBC just cancelled Passions and rumor has it they could cancel Days of Our Lives – what’s the relevance of daytime dramas?

The emotional relevance of the programs is in tact. When we look at the ratings for the ABC soaps on ABC, in DVR households and on [cable network] SoapNet, we’re seeing a still vibrant business for our product. Clearly women are willing to record and find these shows. In addition, of course, we still have foreign revenue and digital and merchandising revenue. We know women will still go out of their way for soaps.

However, in the case of Passions, which was a show that had a strong heartbeat a few years ago, they went from being a very young-targeted show to trying to spread their demographic to going back to who they were and I think they lost some people in the zigging and zagging and it cost them. NBC, of the three networks, has also had the weakest commitment to daytime historically. Going from six hours probably ten years ago to two and a half today to the only one they’ll have in September. Women notice these things.

When Jeff Zucker announced that Days may go away in 2009, you can track the ratings from that point and see they probably lost 25% of their audience on NBC Daytime. It makes a lot of sense when you think about it. Do you think you can turn to a woman and say, 'I’m going to divorce you in two years' and expect them to still sleep with you? I say no. So, they sort of broke the contract and I think it’s the opposite for us.

At ABC and SoapNet, we’ve affirmed the commitment we have to the women who watch our shows by making them available on SoapNet, by reaching out, by sending our stars to the cities they live in, by having a weekly newsletter to know what’s going on, by making merchandise available in WalMart and other retailers, we make it easy for women to be connected to our shows.

Oh my god! You are listening to Brian frons?!!!!!!!!!! Please! This from the same network that has hired and fired Meagen Mctavish on several different occassions?!...I am sure the fact that NBC APPEARS to be giving up on the soap genre has hurt days a little,but its not the sole reason for the big drop.If thats the case,why hasnt PASSIONS dropped a LOT like to a 1.0 rating?The major problem with DAYS and all the soaps is the writing.Newbies and backburning acting talent is hurting all the soaps.Why is B and B slipped under a 3.0..Even Y/R has slipped in recent weeks...ditto for G.H...Amc was in a ratings funk....They are not being cancelled...Look we can sit and blame everybody except who we should be blaming:THE PEOPLE who are in charge who think they know what people want to see....Until they learn what we want to see soaps will continue to lose viewers!..Brian frons needs to worry about his soaps.And soapnet has just stopped showing Another world and barley shows reruns of port charles and ryans hope and he wants to talk about being connected to his viewers?! Another difference between the GL and Days situations is that CBS has never actually said they're going to cancel GL. It's just been a rumor and a possibility. Indeed, CBS has even affirmed its commitment to GL several times, always renewing it despite naysayers saying it will be cancelled. So, GL's rumors are not as damaging as a definitive declaration like Jeff Zucker made.

Also, about my earlier post in this thread, ah, I see that the "standings" have been fixed and both Days and GL are listed as tied for 7th now in the HH ratings, instead of Days 7th and GL 8th as was originally posted.

I can read and read between the lines. While DAYS may continue on another network according to Zucker it is UNLIKELY to have a home on NBC. My point isn't what will happen to DOOL but rather how people are responding to it's tenuous future. Say what you will about Frons at least he WANTS his daytime dramas to continue,

Daytime soap Passions has been canceled after an eight-year run to make room for a fourth hour of Today, which will air on all network affiliates, though only about half will initially air all of Today in a continuous block, says NBC Universal Television president Jeff Zucker. The worsening economics of daytime soaps led NBC to choose expanding Today. Passions will likely finish its run in August, but NBC is discussing continuing the soap on a cable network (such as SoapNet) or on line. Zucker suggested that NBC's only other soap, Days of Our Lives, is unlikely to continue past 2009.
