Victoria Rowell TV Guide Exit interview

It makes me wonder WHY Victoria's peers at Y&R would not give her a pre-nom.

And why they gave Chrystel a nod for approx 1 MONTH of indifferent work when Davetta was bringing it on the rest of the year?

I don't think her not getting an Emmy has anything to do with her being black. I do think she got the NAACP awards because she's black. They don't give those to people who aren't black, do they?

Either her "peers" didn't think she was good enough an actress for an Emmy, or they didn't like her personally, and didn't vote for her for the Emmys. Either way, there's a lot of ego involved. You don't think Victoria has no ego, do you? That she's....humble? LOL.

Not its not. Put yourself in her shoes. It is a matter of simply understanding where she is coming from, which you do not. The fact that she has won 11 NAACP awards and 0 emmy awards causes some eyebrow raising. Now I could see if she was a bad actress but she isn't, she is wonderful, a hard worker who deserves some slack. She made a great point by pointing out the lack of diversity in soaps period. Its just a shame if you really think about and the fact that she is black and hasn't won AND only one other black actress has won and she had to share it? That is just a little suspect. It is 2007! I would say this is like the academy awards but I can't because they have finally gotten their act together, so why can't the daytime Emmy's/soaps do the same? Its time to take the rose colored glasses off folks and see the truth!

BRAVO TO YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Q Steph, thanks for posting that.

I think daytime would be well-served to not only encouage and promote diversity on its shows, but also to encourage input from the actors and actresses who create the diversity. What Victory Rowell said about African-Americans seeking comfort and guidance from the community and the church was informative and so true. It also would have made for a stronger storyline.

I think she did deserve an emmy nominations and I also think the process is in serious need of change. It's become a popularity contest.

Anyway, Victoria Rowell is an incredibly classy lady and I enjoyed the interview.

Because they only voted for their close friends obviously. Sharon Case mentioned in an interview as Phick got together that she has no friends on set since Jennifer Garies left. Notice despite a powerful year she also didn't get a nomination. Rowell is similar in saying that this is more of a job and who can blame her? The woman does so much at once, a primetime series, movies, writing a book, raising two kids, etc.

Another actor who treats it more like a job is Eric Braeden so it's no surprise he wasn't Pre-Nomed either. Basically you have to kiss a lot of ass to have a shot at being recongnized for your brilliant work here.

Ugly Betty won Best Comedy this year, it's for "colored" people which includes all minorities. It's a way of showcasing the talent of minorities who are notoriously overlooked when it comes to the major award shows, daytime and primetime. On 24 Penny Johnson Jerald and Dennis Haysbert were overlooked, but Jean Smart and Gregory Itzin sure were nominated for their work.

There is no way her cast had any negative thoughts on her acting if they were willing to give Christel Khalil a disaster with one month of extra work, a Pre-Nom. It was all about favorites. And Victoria was carrying the show last year as her storyline took Y&R over the 6 million viewers mark. She certainly was doing her job well and earned that spot.

The Y&R Pre-Noms can't be defended this year. It was too glaringly obvious what was going on. Not just Rowell, but a large number of actors were overlooked.

Who decided to make the Emmy's a popularity based decision? It should be changed.

Y&R sounds so cliquey. Melody Thomas Scott mentioned in an interview that she was only really close to Sharon Case.

I would've left the show too.

I love VR, but I was disappointed that she left on these terms. Y&R is blessed with an unbelievable cast. Unlike some shows that have a handful of outstanding actors -- the show is basically strong from top to bottom. (When people complain about DK or AF, I believe that says something -- they are good actresses IMO.) I only wish VR the best of luck because she is a wonderful person and has done so much on and off the screen. Hopefully, she'll come back someday. I'm sure Y&R would welcome her back and so would the fans!

Sorry, if this was already mentioned, but I HAD to tell those of you who would love it. Victoria GOT ON THE "TODAY" SHOW TODAY!!! How exciting is that?! She was pimping her book. I saw about three minutes of the interview. It was good.

Why is it that when a black actress is snubbed its automatically racist but when powerhouses like Allison Sweeney and Kassie Depaiva, both white, are snubbed, its always "better luck next year"?

A snub is a snub. The race card isn't being played.

I think that the numbers of african american actresses that have been nominated in the past and actually have one speak for themselves. If we were playing on an equal field where the numbers added up, then I don't think people at least I wouldn't be questioning the reasons why this is the case.

Power to Victoria Rowell, she is intelligent, talented, and a classy woman who will continue to be successful, and she spoke her truth, the only one that she knows. And I applaud her for it.

That's my girl!!! She should become a writer, or create her own Soap. I know it takes money to do that, but it would be awesome.

I just wanted to say *WORD* to this. Unfortunately many people still don't understand the reasons why the NAACP Image Awards, Alma Awards or Asian-American awards shows exist. If it weren't for these shows, people of color would hardly ever get recognized for their work. Perhaps there will come a time when these shows will no longer be necessary. But daytime in particular has a LONG way to go to become more diversified.

Has a Latina actress ever won a Daytime Emmy?

She was on Wendy Williams the other day and I enjoyed the interview.

As for the Emmy...I'm surprised she doesn't have one. In addition, I wish her the best of luck and I hope one day Drucilla will return.

As for the race issues on daytime television...it's pretty plain to see that each soap on each network has maybe one or two black characters featured in front burner stories who actually drive the story. I barely watch soaps anymore and this is one of the reasons for it. I still say its a shame that blacks had major stories in the 90's and 10 years later most are reduced to being the 'best friend'.
