DAYS: Sheffer Out!?

Well, I guess it will be two of us because I am not impressed with Hogan's writing myself. GL's budget seems smaller than DAYS' and yet they manage to be *somewhat* entertaining, so I can't blame it solely on budget issues. I just think Hogan's stories sounded a lot better on paper than the execution, IMHO. Despite what I think about Hogan, I don't really think it is a good idea to constantly be shifting headwriters all the time. It just seems to bring so much instability to a show and its plot, especially at DAYS. Of course, whatever happens, I'll still be watching...seeing what surprises are around the corner.

Well in their defense, the shows that did end with them as HW's were on in the deathslot (12:30 ET) against Y&R

Also during their tenure at GL, the show was consistantly beating AMC/OLTL in the ratings.

They are not that bad IMO

Technically only TWO as Loving/City was one and Port Charles.

DAYS isn't gone yet ;)

Please cover your naughty bits with a Bible or something. Keep them nasty hands out of the danger zone. Old ladies read our comments and I wouldn't want any of them to experience ill health from joining in, or even just reading about, your next potential moral dilemma/outrage.:P:D:)

Was it during the time of the clone storyline, in 1998?

I'm not sure what's up with Sheffer, but let's face it- Days more or less ignored character development for years, dating back to Reilly's first run. Sheffer has a thankless task and will take some time (if he's given it at all) to clean it up and give the show some sense of direction.

But I agree, he needs good supporting writers. He had it in his first year at ATWT, and will need people of similar ability around him if he's to turn around Days.

Eh...I've always considered LOVING and THE CITY two separate entities. They were two completely different shows, even though the press liked to lump the two shows together.

And don't even get me started on the crap Brown/Esenten tried to pass off as PORT CHARLES. Still upset about Karen Harris's demotion. The show would probably still be alive today and even giving Y&R much needed competition if she were still HW.

I would rather have Sheffer shape up and give us a better product as opposed to having him fired and having to go through another transition period...Days does not need another one of those...I'm hoping this isn't true..I think Corday should give Hogan a little more time to make the show better, with rules though..Use John, Marlena, Bo and Hope...

Your probably right Kevin, DAYS doesn't need another transition. These last couple months has lit a fire under Corday and Hogan and we are about to get some excellent stuff ahead. I am nervously excited about it.

THat said they were brilliant at Loving (and were brought in already when it was decided they were retooling the show so it hardly counts) and largely brilliant at CIty. I still wish they had gone to OLTL instead of Higley--it's mor eurban soap drama seemed to fit with what they had created for the City (which I sorely miss)

The greatest tv series season finale in history.
    • Mick Savage was sooo unbearable. And more unbearable was the reaction from the female characters to him - they were acting like he is God's gift to women and sooo irresistible. To a point of unbelievable cringe.
    • Today was a short one. Only 33 minutes.  The ‘Part One’ graphic at the beginning was pretty interesting though. I didn’t expect them to do something like that.  I like how everything was focused around John and his family and friends. Again, the acting and the dialogue was very well done and well written. And I love that they were able to incorporate Drake’s, “swing for the fences” phrase into the script. It was nice seeing everyone interact with each other, especially characters who don’t often share scenes together. It felt like every character was part of a big family or community. Plus, an outdoor funeral in June makes a lot more sense than an outdoor funeral in December.  But yeah, it’s very, very strange that Will isn’t at the funeral, especially since we know that

I would much rather he had been there today. And, where’s Anna too? And Jack and Jennifer? What was the point of bringing them all back if they weren’t going to attend the funeral? I expected Steve to want to close down BlackPatch, though I’d rather he just retire and let Paul take it over. But I like that Kayla was there to comfort him. I wonder if he’s going to change his mind at some point.  It was nice seeing Shane again too. Now, he just needs to have more scenes with his son lol but I enjoyed seeing him comfort Marlena. I’m not really sure about his interaction with Cat though? Was it really necessary for this to happen now, at John’s funeral? They could’ve waited a little longer to introduce this story arc.  Btw, was Tate bleeding from his head in his first scene with Arianna?

    • Now this strikes me as funny. I have it up on my acct. The thing is I only have S2. Didn't want either 1 or 3.  Perhaps I should just list all of these that I have up.  Parodies: Dirty Sexy Money, Filthy Rich Incomplete: The Monroes, All That Glitters, Falcon Crest (have all just not all up), Once & Again S2 only Complete: Models Inc, Pasadena, Pacific Palisades, Paper Dolls, Flamingo Road
    • This is wonderful! Thank you for posting this! I loved the first two seasons and never got to see the final season when they cancelled the DVD release. I've been hoping this popped up on streaming but no luck. Happy I'll finally get to see how it ended!

    • In case it is of interest to anyone here, I have digital copies (computer files, mp4 etc.) of all of the episodes. And, besides having the files they are all up on my usual video hosting site, acct name: shallotpeel, channel it is in: Primetime Soaps and file names like  Flamingo Road S1E15 Hurricane Flamingo Road was a primetime soap on NBC by Lorimar Productions. 2 seasons. 1980-1982. Morgan Fairchild, Barbara Rush. Developed by Rita Lakin.
    • Arguably DAYS OF OUR LIVES has been brilliant lately & definitely was last week. But, here I am with nitpick & technicalities. This was the only misstep but it was just a stupid thing that should have been caught. Deidre Hall as Marlena has this one problematic line, "It didn't matter how many identities you had, I always knew exactly who you were, you were the man who saved my life." - Marlena, DAYS, 6-2-25 Unfortunately the flashback closest to it was when Marlena was on the phone, terrified because she thought he was Stefano. Yes, it's true that the line is not accurate. There were many times when she did not feel the way she is claiming because of whatever was going on in story with his 'retconned to hell & back' identity & origin story. Does it keep the whole week from being called excellent? Nope.
