DAYS: Corday speaks in SOD -

Sounds to me like Corday thinks bringing back Tony, etc... is the solution.

The solution Corday is write for the characters that fans are screaming for the writers to write for the BIG 4

and about tony - stupid. they should have kept lexie and bring back kristen.I am so sick of this annual "oh the dimera era is over..NO it's not!".I loved B&C tony (and his realationship with sami),but DH and JERk have ruined him.

The "15 years ago" statement is really grating on my nerves.

Is he ashamed of what the show was 15 years ago or something, to want a complete disconnect? I'm confused and thrown by that statement. Bo and Hope were on 15 years ago, as were John and Marlena. It's not that viewers don't want to see old, beloved characters -- we just want them in good stories, utilized well!

Yeah, me, too, Kenny.

15 years ago is when I fell in love with the show. I don't need the SLs from back then recycled and replicated. I just want the core characters of days (like Marlena, Bo, etc) given some exciting and well-written SLs that ring true. SLs that are of the same quality as back in the day.

The man is clueless.

Less than ten years ago, he said that he wanted to 'move away from supercouples' because the 'supercouple' limits you to what you can write, creatively.

Now, it's the supercouples he depends on.

Last year, he said that they were phasing the DiMeras out because it was best for the show. Now, he's bringing them back and calling it the 'tried and true forumula.'

Back and forth, back and forth. The man doesn't know what works and what doesn't, because he's an I-D-I-O-T.

What's the deal, Corday? Which side of your mouth are you talking about of today?

Ken Corday... WAKE UP.

He always goes back to the 'tried and true' when it comes to a ratings crisis. The ratings go up as a result, and then they go back to getting off track. It's a constant up and down. When will he learn the important of consistency? Don't just use Bo/Hope/John/Marlena to get the ratings up when you're in the middle of a crisis. Use them well on a regular basis! Plain and simple. I mean, wasn't it just before Hogan Sheffer came on last year that they were promising the same exact thing? "You'll see the Days of old again. Lots of Bo, Hope, John and Marlena. It's going to be the Days you've been wanting." We got that for a few months... and then it veered off course again. And now that we're in the middle of a crisis, they're going back to what works -- AGAIN. At what point does the show remain a quality show (with the characters we know and love) on a regular, consistent basis? I'm sick of the constant up-and down, touch-and-go. And judging by the ratings, I'm not the only one.

Don't get me wrong, I love everything Corday said. But I also know how much the man lies. Bo, Hope, John and Marlena might be back, and the "days of old" might return once again... but for how long? One month? Two? I just can't trust the man anymore. He over-sells everything, and I end up being disappointed in the end.

Now, let me go on to comment on his comments in specific...

"I have not seen a decline in the ratings on the show this precipitous - ever. I've never seen this much of a percentage decline. And the first inclination is to say, 'Okay it's not us, it's our lead-in. It's the fact that people know PASSIONS is going off the air,' which may or may not be totally true. But we also have to look at the state of the school. It, in a way, has become a lot about third parties moving stories."

Why is it that when the ratings decline, Ken Corday is always unwilling to look at him and his own show to figure out what is wrong? No, Corday... it's not your lead-in. It's YOU. It's DAYS. Look at yourself and your own shortcomings and things will get fixed a whole lot quicker. Don't play the 'it's not our fault the ratings are down' game. Look at the real issue and make some changes (ones that last -- it's all about consistency) and you'll get a decent audience -- at least in comparison to the rest of the pack. Ratings might be down for the genre as a whole, but within that nosediving genre, Days is two from the bottom. That's dangerous.

"He (Hogan) will shift gears from out of town to back. We're going back to the core of DAYS: John and Marlena, and Bo and Hope. We're also going back to one of the tried-and -true stories on the show, which involves the DiMeras."

If only they would've come to this conclusion a month or two earlier, they would've been wise enough to get Eileen Davidson back and involved in the 'tried and true' story involving the DiMeras. Instead, Corday decided to get rid of the DiMeras (and rightfully so... I'm sick of every story being propelled by some evil DiMera mastermind) only to suddenly make this turnaround... and now, his DiMera family is gone. Stefano's gone. Kristen's gone. Lexie's gone. The 'evil' DiMera clan is overplayed. I don't mind having them on the show, but we need to go someplace with them... it's the same ole, same ole. And please, for the love of God, would they actually real the reason behind the Brady/DiMera feud instead of just teasing it? I'm beyond ready to learn the truth and get that out of the way. I feel like it's more of an annoying roadblock than something I'm really interested in.

"Digest: I've gotten a lot of flak from fans because you've said in the past that they'd back on-screen, but they really weren't. So are you saying that yes, they will be back in a regular capacity?"

LMAO! SOD basically called Corday a liar there. Love it!

"Tony Dimera will back on-screen."

Vomit. I'm so sick of him. He better not be written the same way that he was under JER, or I'll throw up all over the place. Kristen should've been brought back in his place, damn it!

"More of the familiar faces that we so know and love from recent years (will be returning). Not from 15 years ago."

Is it just me, or does that sound like a stab at Steve and Kayla? I'm betting that Steve/Kayla will be shoved to the backburner very soon. They've been getting pretty decent airtime over the last few months, during the decline. Not surprisingly, it'll be blamed on them and I wouldn't be surprised if they let Stephen and Mary Beth go before too long.

Wholeheartedly agree. These ratings crises come up about once a year now, so this time I am not really holding my breath. I am not too excited about Tony returning, because I was not too crazy about him ala 2003. He can stay in prison for all I care. I am all about Stefano right now if they are trying to focus on the DiMera's again. I was a bit confused by the "15 years ago" statement as well. Was the show bad 15 years ago or something? Adrienne is coming back...wasn't she on like 15 years ago?? So what exactly *is* that? Interesting... Well, in any case, this time DAYS will have to deliver more on a long-term basis, than doing these short-term ratings stunts they usually do before going off track again, because they're future *literally* depends on it this time. 2009 is oh so far, but oh so close! So we shall see I guess.

Corday really should keep his mouth closed.....with every interview, he just keeps digging that grave even deeper.

One other thing...doesn't Passions FOLLOW Days in most markets?

That, too! When I read Corday blaming Passions for the decline in Days ratings, I was like, "WTF?! Days airs before Passions in most markets!"

It's funny to me that Corday would even say that, though. He's basically saying, "Well, crap. We thought we could write a crap show and just depend on the greatness of the surrounding shows to hold us up..." I'd be embarassed!

corday KNOWS what the reason for the low ratings are.yet every year he is doing it again, maybe hoping that this time it wont cause a drop and he will get his own twisted version of the show no one else is interested in.

good written stories with the characters people want to see will bring him good ratings.look at B&C in 2002.and he had to fire them because of dena's "amazing" future plans.

Jason47 has posted on another board that it's looking likely that the character of BART will be returning around the same time as Tony.

Bart. Bart, the idiotic DiMera sidekick. The fool. The "such a bad character he's embarassing to watch" dude.

BART.

I could vomit right now. Bart is supposed to save the show as part of the DiMera fold?

...BART?

I would spit fire right now if I could. They pass up Eileen, but want to bring back motherfucking BART?

the plus side, corday doesnt say tony's return is a long term.he says he's back to talk to ej..maybe it will be just like Jack's return.

I am glad we heard more in depth stuff from him. I want to hear the rest out of SOD but here are my thoughts:

First off, good for SOD calling Corday a liar. I am glad. He did lie and say they were going to be onscreen and they weren't.

Secondly, about Tony, I think he is only the beginning. Stefano IS coming back folks. The same sources around the net that started hinting at Tony are hinting at Stefano. I think that is what Corday meant by the last 15 years comment. It would not surprise me to also Jack and a recast Jen return now either since they are recent. He may think that will help. They missed the boat on Kristen but I thinl if written well a Tony return can be great. He is the type of character Hogan can do great things for but we'll see. I am not happy about Bart returning but whatever. I also think Lexie will be back my mid-summer at the latest.

Now that comment was a major dig at Steve and Kayla and he can't blame them for this. The transition killed them and focusing on them day in and day out is what is hurting them. I don't think he will write them out and if he does I will pissed. I do think he will pull back on them a bit. Just because they weren't mentioned means nothing.

One thing I got from this interview is that it sounds like Corday is admitting failure. It sounds like backburnering the vets and focusing on who was focused on was his doing. If it were Hogan's, Corday would be choosing his words a little more wisely and would be trying to skirt around the issue of what needs changing and so on. He just seems so down during this interview and it tells me that the past few months were his little plan to push the young set and push Steve/Kayla (who were his idea to bring back last year) and it failed. That is how I see it but I don't care anymore. I just want changes made and let's be done with it.

There were rumors that Hogan wanted to bring Tony and Stefano back so I am guessing he must have pitched this Corday again and be accepted it this time.

That Passions comment was stupid. It follows Days in most markets and Passions has always relied on Days for ratings not the other way around. What an idiot

The scary thing is, why do we know this and he doesn't?

As for more in-depth stuff... we didn't really hear much. We're going to see J/M/B/H, but he didn't say what they'd be doing -- it could be a total disaster. The return of Tony is upsetting to me, considering that they passed Eileen Davidson by... not to mention the ruination of Tony. And can't Corday come up with something fresh and new rather than constantly going back to that stale DiMera angle? It's PLAYED. It tells me that they've run out of tricks in their bag, so now they have to go back and try to recycle old plots that used to be successful. Am I the only one reading it this way?
