March 19, 200718 yr Member Scoop! Passions Seeks New Home on DIRECTV TVGuide.com has learned that NBC is in talks to move Passions to DIRECTV when the soap's broadcast TV run concludes this fall. As previously reported, NBC has cancelled Passions and will last is Sept. 7, 2007. Nevertheless, NBC Entertainment president Kevin Reilly recently offered us hope for Passions' future. "We are going to be looking very, seriously at keeping [Passions] alive," the exec told reporters at TCA's winter press tour. "The fact is, there are loyal viewers of this show who love it and show up every day. And in a perfect world, we'd like to keep the brand alive. There may be another network. You know, I don't think it's a broadcast network, but there may be another cable network that wants to get in business with us and have some sort of on-air presence for the show. If things work out, die-hard Passions watchers will have good reason to dump their cable and subscribe to DIRECTV satellite service. FYI, NBC declined comment for this story, while calls to DIRECTV were not immediately returned. No surprise there, since companies generally don't like to comment on these things until the deal is officially sealed. Stay tuned, Passions Folks... Tabitha, Endora and the rest of Harmony's lovable freaks may still have some afterlife in them yet! http://community.tvguide.com/thread.jspa?t...ssDate=12345678 Edited March 19, 200718 yr by nassaunew
March 19, 200718 yr Member IF this even ends up happening, there's no way in hell I'm giving up my cable in favor of satellite (which I hate) JUST for PASSIONS.
March 20, 200718 yr Member Are they considering a pay per view arrangement like BBC America set up with Dish Network for Eastenders? They charge about $10 a month for the approx. 2 hour weekly omnibus (roughly 20 1/2 hour episodes a month.) I think it would be expensive and not many would spring for it if that's so. March 20, 200718 yr Member If NBC mixed new Passions with repeats of DAYS and SANTA BARBARA I could totally see this channel flying.
March 20, 200718 yr Member I would be happy, but if it does happen, I won't be able to watch it anyway.
March 20, 200718 yr Member Ain't going to fly even with repeats of Days and SB to back it up. Plus to air repeats of Days would be Sony's call, not NBC's. And since Sony already has a deal with Disney and Soapnet, it is not going to happen. If NBC owned Days, it wouldn't be airing on Soapnet. Edited March 20, 200718 yr by dawn9476
March 20, 200718 yr Member Can some of you even BE positive? Sheesh! I think it's an interesting concept and I'll wait and see what happens. I realize we are free to say what we want, but come on ... at least give it a chance before automatically shutting it down! Me ... unless the writing changes I say just end Passions, which is hard for me to say. I was a DIEHARD fan from 1999 until 2001.
March 20, 200718 yr Member NOOOO! I LOVE Passions and it is great it might live on, but I don't get Satellite and am on cable! And I am not gonna go through trying to change it(because I've tried it before, didn't work), so I won't be able to see it if it does go up on Satellite!
March 20, 200718 yr Member I would be positive if I thought this would benefit the show but it won't. People aren't just going to change their lifestyle for Passions. Kevin Reilly makes me hopeful that the show will live on but I don't feel satellite is the way to go. Most of the fanbase won't be able to see it so that is more a detriment then a benefit. Oh, and a side note, NBC is really doing all it can for Passions which is refreshing. I hope they extend the same courtesy to Days. Anyway, I hope Passions does find a home. I know NBC has affiations with Sci-Fi and USA so perhaps they could look into those or other cable options. I think cable or another network is the way to go to save the show and give it a fighting chance.
March 20, 200718 yr Member Honestly ... who's to say NBC.com won't stream episodes, or Itunes? It's not hopeless...
March 20, 200718 yr Member That is a good idea Kman and I would hope that happens. I am sure they are looking at the best ideas to benefit the show...at least I hope they are. It is refreshing to see actual effort to save a show though.
