I'm pretty sure that what is currently being shown on SoapNet was originally from April 1991. That's because these AW reruns have usually been shown 15 years and 11 months after they first aired. (Note that it was originally shown exactly 16 years before the first airing; however, the Iran-Contra hearings caused about one month's worth of pre-emptions back in the summer of 1987.)

Anyway, what do you folks think about Lucas? I happen to really enjoy this character, who--thanks to Felicia's love--is now completely reformed from the shady person he once was. (In fact, most fans believe that Lucas is the true love of Felicia's life.) John Aprea is a great actor, and he and Linda Dano have terrific chemistry.

I still remember Anne's first day on AW back when SoapNet first started airing reruns. Sucks we're losing her, although obviously we knew we would be.

I didn't realize Calli and Julie left like literally around the same time. That blows. I can't wait to see Judi as Paulina though, back when Paulina had personality and spark, not the pod Carlino wife Jill Farren Phelps and her cronie writers turned her in to.

Julie Osborn is fantastic. Why on earth was she written out after finally returning? Anyone know?

And how much longer do we have Swajeski for? She's brilliant. I think she's going down as one of my favorite headwriters. Why GL never gave her the spot is beyond me. She'd do wonders with it.

Nevermind ... I found the week we're on, I think:

From AWHP (http://igs.net/~awhp)

APRIL 8-12, 1991

Carl told a disbelieving Kathleen that he returned to Bay City to clear his good name and insisted he is not out to get revenge because she testified against him years ago. Carl sent flowers to Rachel, Felicia, Kathleen, and Donna, who are all convinced that he is plotting against them. Donna's feelings were hurt when she learned about Marley and Jamie's engagement after the fact. Matthew put off Lindsay to spend more time with Jenna. Although Jenna was upset Matthew wasn't able to escort her to her prom, she was the belle of the ball. Sharlene and Frankie dug up more background information on Taylor, who tried to get closer to John while Sharlene was checking out a lead on Taylor's past. Kathleen admitted to Stacey that she still has feelings for Cass. Cass insisted to Frankie that be loves her, but she pointed out their relationship has changed since Kathleen's return.

Guess I'll just chat with myself in here ...

I'm actually working on a website (not that I have the time, but I am) that will have daily screen caps and my on captions added on to them (some snarky, some nasty, some funny ... lol). I'll post the link soon. I'm also going to work on daily recaps (since SoapNet is months behind) and episode counts and possibly, if at all possible, video clips (I'd likely just add them to youtube instead of wasting my own bandwidth).

* Anne Heche last airs as Vicky on July 1, 1991 (which is slated to air on May 28th, barring any pre-emptions).

* Jensen Buchanan debuts on July 25, 1991.

* Cali Timmins last airs as Paulina on July 15, 1991 (which will air in early June, around the 11th or so)

* Julie Obsorn last airs as Kathleen on November 21, 1991 (so we have many more months to go with her)

Actually, there's a few months between. Cali left late July/early August 1991, while Julie sticks around until October/November 1991. Obviously, I'm dreading seeing Judi, and am savoring every Cali moment I have left. The true Paulina.

Osburn is MAGNIFICENT. So is Kathleen, who I had always loved, but particularly in this run. Her dismissal was pretty much storyline-dictated. It's certainly unfortunate and a loss. What ended up happening (and as you watch, see if you feel the same) is that this storyline ended up showing the audience just how much they'd fallen in love with Alice Barrett's Frankie and Frankie & Cass as a couple. When that happened, TPTB didn't have much use for Kathleen anymore, as all things McKinnon had been phased out by then (save Jake). So.....

I believe Swajeski is through late 92/early 93. Peggy Sloane takes over after that and while she does an admirable job, you could certainly see the difference onscreen. AW never truly recovered after Swajeski left, though they did have a renaissance in their final year, under Chris Goutman.

Oh lord. Even Cynthia Watros and Rhonda Lewis were better than Buchanan. She's dreadful and KILLED the character of Victoria Love. Heche and Wheeler were both DYNAMITE as Vicky/Marley. Probably why they both received Daytime Emmys for their portrayals, while Buchanan did not.

    • Thanks again @Paul Raven  It shows you just what a unique and memorable performer Denise Alexander was that I can see her in these moments and hear her even though I've never watched any of the material. On paper it probably wasn't up to much, but I do wish I could see her playing it. Meanwhile, the Diana material continues to seem like one plate of ass after another...I was thinking she had finally been able to move on with the therapy breakthrough, but then we're right back with her believing Peter and Leslie are having an affair. I don't know how much further off the material is that made Valerie Starrett leave, but I can't blame her.  I see less and less of Jessie anywhere in this - is this when Emily's health troubles were starting to phase her out of story? Going a few summaries back, writing out Lee, Caroline, her son and his wife seems so rushed. It's a shame Marland, or whoever, killed off all of them (aside from Lee), as they might have given Lee some story down the line. Or maybe the daughter-in-law survived too - I can't remember.
    • Thanks!  I compiled the list and posted it for the 59th anniversary in November, but just made the updates now for the couple of new cast members we've had since then! Didn't realize until I did the update that Peyton is the first-ever contract actor born in Nevada, so that's another state off the 0 list!
    • What I love about this story is that I can empathize with both Lulu's point of view AND Lois's point of view. I can understand why Lulu thinks it's important for the truth to come out and why she feels a moral obligation to let Dante know he has a son. But these good intentions have gotten all mixed up with her hatred for BLQ, and so she's going about it like a self-righteous bully who hasn't thought through all the consequences of this reveal. And I can understand Lois's thought process keeping this secret. She couldn't bear to give her grandson away to strangers, and so she arranged an adoption that kept him in the family. From her perspective, it's worked out beautifully because as Gio grew up as a "Palmieri cousin", he got to know his father Dante, his mother Brook Lynn, and his grandfather Sonny. She just had the hubris to believe that she could play God and keep the secret forever.  Maybe it's just getting to see Cynthia Watros and Laura Wright in full-on catfight mode a few days ago, but the show is starting to remind me of Guiding Light in its heyday, where most of the drama comes from the interactions of long-running characters who are likeable in some ways but have enough fatal flaws that they create their own problems. That's a sharp contrast for the way GH has generally been written since the JFP era, where most of the drama comes from external threats: supervillians, Sweeps month disasters, the mob shootout of the week.
    • Wow, @JAS0N47, that list of states was impressive! And I never knew that James Read hailed from near me! (I was born and raised in a nearby city, about 15 minutes away!) (Liked him since he played Murphy Michaels on Remington Steele when I was a kid. As an older kid, I also loved him on North and South!)
    • Oh, I remember this vividly! So trippy to see Mike Brady as a devil-worshiping judge. LOL! (With the mustache and curly hair in some pics, Reed seemed to have a surface resemblance to early-Jeopardy Alex Trebek!)
    • This makes Karen, now this & a guy on Facebook named Brent Costel. Sony is really deleting so many files.
    • Tracy is going to be excited but only if she is no longer under arrest. Where is Marty when he is needed?! But, in case he is truly out of pocket, then where the dickens is Scott Baldwin? Scotty, Tracy needs you. And you know how she is.
    • I’m so excited to see Tracy’s reaction when she finds out Gio is the great grandson she was wanting Jason to find.
    • I think Lulu has had a point. Gio is Rocco's half-brother. Rocco is Lulu's son. And, she is still in love with Dante. She tried to get Brook Lynn to be forthcoming. Then she gave Lois the same chance. It was an accident that the two women were screaming at each other enough so that Gio heard every single stinking word they said.
