Members billyjill
FWIW, I'm not giving up. I'm bored, yes, I'm not giving up though. I feel the same, every day is watchable, but I also don't feel that need to tune in the next day. But if I end up tuning in the next day, I find it watchable, again. It's just this lack of momentum combined with my anxiety for the future of the show that brings me down. I am not sure though that I think it's only a matter of the show switching gears away from what current fans are used to. I feel this sense of trying too hard in some of the storylines, I don't feel a clear vision at all and it's giving me anxiety, so for me it's not that they're clearly doing something else, it's that I don't know if they know what they're doing. Maybe I'll *get it* soon but for now I'm just ... anxious.
Members DrewH
You may find it boring. I find it refreshing and I'm loving it. Turn the channel and watch something else.
Members Ridge
I don't think DAYS has become a different soap that I can not watch. I think the quality has improved. But that doesn't mean you can have NOTHING happening and feature new characters and simply throw the familiar ones completely out of the picture. Also you can't just drop storylines and pick them up. That is bad writing, any way you put it. For weeks now we haven't seen what has happened with Mimi/Bonnie and the bones... this coming after some time when it was featured heavily... I have been watching DAYS for over 20 years and never has it been so good yet so LACKING. The soaps in the 70's didn't drag on with nothing happening. And DAYS shouldn't be written like it is the 70's. It's the year 2007. Why can all the other soaps catch up and DAYS can't??
Members Ridge
Again... I completely agree with you... Also, Andre with the cumulative effects of all the crap that DAYS has put out under the HW you listed, it has definitely been easier to give up!! Members Mason
DAYS may be a little slow right now, but I'll take it right now any day over what we've had to endure the last seven years (minus B&C). Oh, and Willow SUCKS. I still hate that stupid b!tch just as much as I ever did.
Administrator Toups Posted February 28, 2007 Administrator Share Posted February 28, 2007 Great post, Andre. NOTHING has happened? Steve kidnapped John and Kayla just took out John's liver today! While the show is not action packed, it's very much watchable. It hasn't been this good in years. As far as Willow, I love her scenes with Philip. I love their bantering and how Philip hates her but needs her. Jay/Annie play off each other so well.
Members Mason
I completely agree. DAYS doesn't need hostage situations and explosions every other week like GH to keep me entertained.
Members King
I have been doing so every day January 10th-ish. DAYS needs action. This is not CBS. NBC fans have proved time and time again that if there is no action, the ratings do not rise. And DAYS needs its ratings to rise ASAP.
Members Mason
That I do agree with. Quality wise, the show is fine right now. But DAYS needs to step it up for ratings, now more than ever.
Members King
I'm worn down. My endurance and tolerance are both way low because of everything you mentioned.
Members KLN
I agree. There's no big explosions or huge action-packed gimmicks happening right now, but the day-to-day interactions and character-driven story is keeping me tuned in. It's not a "heart beating out of your chest" kind of drama -- it's a different kind of enjoyment. Some fans will like it, and other fans won't. I think alot of it has to do with the fact that Days fans aren't used to simple soap like this. Days, at the moment, is no different than the classic soaps from way back in the day. Characters sitting in their kitchens, driving story through conversation and interaction. Nothing huge... just character-driven story. That's CLASSIC soap opera. With the drama, it's a little dull. But it's far from unwatchable. That said, they DO need to kick it up a notch. In today's soap world, you need big soap climaxes to keep viewers tuned in and to get the ratings. For survival, they NEED to amp it up. Not necessarily for me, but for themselves. I hate to see them shooting themselves in the foot. Sometimes, you've got to be a sellout, LoL
Members psychofan
Well, I find a boring soap worst than a soap with stupid and far-fetched plots. I love JER and Langan. I think they are both great writers and was a fan of nearly every story they wrote. Dena was out there too, and I can't say I want her back, but it still wasn't the snooze fest that it is now. Members KLN
...say what? LoL Her era of Days was the most boring era in the show's entire history!
Members psychofan
LOL sorry to disagree with you!!! Don't get me wrong, I didn't like her at all...but the whole Cassie/Rex introduction caught my attention. It was in a bad way, but it still caught my attention. Members KLN
Higley didn't write that. Brash/Cwikly wrote that. Dena wrote Bo and Hope as bounty hunters... taco boy... the green goop on the revervation or whatever the [!@#$%^&*] it was... and Jack & Jenn's idiotic talk show "In The House."
