Top 2

(1) Melinda Doolittle & Blake Lewis. Melinda always puts emotion in her songs, always dresses for the songs, does remind me of Tina Turner and actually surprisingly can sing country. Very good as usual. She could record that song ("Trouble Is a Woman", never heard until tonigh) and have a hit. Blake, who did great on Tim McGraw's "When the Stars Go Blue", and didn't change his pop style, also puts emotion in every song, he's today and different. I voted for both 50 times each. These 2 have got to be the Final 2. I don't care which wins (at this point), but I want them the final 2.

(3) Lakisha Jones ---- not hardly as good as usual (voted for her 20 times), but still good. I think she did sing "Jesus Take the Wheel" good, but would've been better on another song IMHO.

(4) Chris Richardson ---- actually I think Chris did good on bad country group Rascal Flatts' "Mayberry". I prefered he would've picked a more pop-sounding country song, maybe a Shania Twain or Tim McGraw song.

(5) Jordin Sparks----- the middle and ending of "Broken Wing" were very good, but the start was too slow. If she would've sung the entire song the way she did the mid and end, she would be in at least 3rd place.

(6) Phil Stacey---- one of two of his best performances on Keith Urban's "Where the Blacktop Ends". He does need to sing country. He said this is the type of music he wants to record. My question is, if so, then why hasn't he picked songs that more fit this genre earlier. Too little too late as Simon said. I think he'll still end up in the Bottom 2 (he did when he gave his best performance to date, the Police's "Every Breath You Take". He doesn't deserve to go this week, but may.

(7) Sanjaya Malakar---- back to the horribleness that he is (after improving the last 3 weeks). Get this Indian version of William Hung off IDOL ASAP, C'mon!!! Loved Simon telling off Ryan, who was pimping Sanjaya. I hope he goes this week, but I bet it will be Phil instead.

I'm bet the Bottom 3 will be Phil, Sanjaya & either Chris or Lakisha.

I loved Phil tonight. Certainly not the best of them all, but he had been my choice to go before seeing the performances. Now I don't want him to go LOL.

After reading that Jordin was in trouble this week, I was so happy that she had a good performance. Maybe she will become the next AI yet as Simon mentioned.

Of course, Melinda was perfection. It's really difficult to see anyone else winning if the votes are purely for vocals.

I was very disappointed in Blake and Chris tonight. Simon remarked about how hard this has been on them so I can sympathize though. Chris was truly torn up.

Sanjaya and LaKisha were the worst. Sanjaya chose a bad song for tonight and I was worried about how he would do country. Same with LaKisha. She butchered Carrie Underwood's song. I had to put my hand over my ears the last half when she lost the pitch and the melody. Either one of them could go.

Well, it's up to the votes. I'll check the odds board in the morning to see if Phil has lost the odds spot and who inherited it.

I am going to follow dialidol more then the AOL poll because it has a better track record. This year it doesn't and some are saying Idol added more phone lines and that is why but who knows.

Anyway, here are my thoughts today on what was a good week for me due to my fondness for country music and Martina McBride (love her!!). Instead of going in order of performance, I am going to rank them based on my view:

1.) Jordin-Superb. She IS the next American Idol and I was just waiting for Simon to say it because everytime he does he is right. Great vocal and look. Flawless. I have no more words...she has it all. The personality...everything.

2.) Melinda- After just a ok performance last week, she came back strong. I saw the Tina Turner reference and I agree. She had a little edge today and it was great seeing her move around and still sing her face off. I wish she would go in the audience more though. I was happy Simon called her out on the smiling and "shocked look" because she should know by now that she is good. I know she is nice and that is part of her charm but she shouldn't act surprised everytime she gets an ovation or good comments. She doesn't have to be cocky, just confident. She needs to show that she knows she is good. I was glad Simon mentioned that.

3.) Phil-Wow...I am stunned but he was enjoyable. Good song choice and he finally put emotion and energy into the song as a whole. He showed personality and was just great. His best performance to date and he found his niche. I hope he is spared this week actually and that is coming from someone who has wanted him gone. He should be rewarded for this. He earned his spot for another week.

4.) Blake-Ok. Nothing special. Good song choice. I felt a little safe and I think Randy and Simon were right in that he was wise to stay in what seems comfortable for him. It didn't shock me or give me chills. Like Melinda last week, he was just alright.

5.) Chris-ugh...I like him but tonight he sounded like what would happen if Justin Timberlake decided to sing country on his next album. He seems to be embracing being a copycat now and it needs to stop. His singing was ok in spots but nasally overall. Simon was right and his pissed off attitude didn't help. Nasally is not a type of singing. That is BS. He is losing favor with me now. I was patient with the Timberlake stuff but it's becoming an issue where I could care less if he goes now.

6.) Lakisha-she sang one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite idols and singers Carrie Underwood. The first hald...ok. She didn't so much with it but it was still ok but then comes the chorus and all the runs and wow. She totally rushed the vocal and couldn't keep up with the band. Then, her little plan to pick the song because it related to her backfired because she connected so much with the song she started breaking down during it. So, not only was she rushing vocals and shouting in an effort to put her stamp on it but she was getting choked up as well. I wouldn't say she butchered it but it got to be a mess and Randy was right in saying that if she insisted on that song she should've changed it to fit her vibe, which is a little more gospel then the way Carrie sings it despite it being a gospel-like song. She is definitely looking like one who peaked too early though.

7.) Sanjaya: THANK YOU SIMON!! B) RYAN NEEDED TO SHUT UP!! Seriously, he said what was on the mind of everyone outside the Sanjaya "circle of fun." It was all funny at first but it's getting sickening. I have felt bad in the past for people like Sanjaya who seem nice and get put in this spot but he is embracing this. He is getting cocky and his ego got blasted big tiem tonight and I applaud Simon for doing that. I even detected snark on Paula's part when she said "he embraces adversity and thrives on it." Enough is enough. Don't put this kid through anymore and don't put us through anymore. SEND HIM PACKING!!! The vocals were horrible, the hair was horrible...ugh. GO HOME!!! .

Simon was on point tonight, which was good. Ryan annoyed me too with him trying to act like a peacemaker. America and Sanjaya needed to hear that. On dialidol, it has had Melinda taking a big hit the past few weeks so that is interesting, if true. Right now it seems like we may have a Chris, Lakisha, and Sanjaya bottom 3 coming based on reactions, poll, etc. My bottom 3 is the same as that so hopefully that will be the case with Sanjata going home.

Jordin has the same level of momentum that Kelly Clarkson had in season one. Jordin also has that star quality that Kelly has. I really think Jordin can win it all. She's young and she's fearless and most importantly she can sing.

That's a great point. Your right about that. Kelly started building momentum too and then no one could stop her. It wasn't like Carrie who you knew right away because of her singing but even she had to build up momentum to ensure her spot. Kelly and Jordin are both people you know can win but now they are building up so much momentum and they both did it at the right time. Interesting.

Every year there is always one person who sticks out and I have been right picking the winner of Idol 4 out of the previous 5 years (I picked Jennifer Hudson in season 3 and was wrong). I even had Taylor last year even though I hated picking him.

I said since they first started showing her that Jordin had something and I still maintain that. She will win American Idol.

I T A however, she has not got a huge fan base. She has been low in all the polls and even in danger several times. I love her and don't know why she isn't more popular. She won't be able to win unless she builds a fan base. Maybe tonight will be the beginning of that, similar to how Vonzell Solomon soared toward the last part of AI4, only Jordin should go all the way.

Jean, I wouldn't beleive those polls. Those polls are very unreliable unless we are down to the final two. At least dialidol was right nearly every week the past two season until this one. The AOL poll was completely off last week, for example. Fan bases tend to stuff those polls just to prove to people they are arguing with that they are right in who is better. My nephew does it all the time  .

Jordin is very popular and she has never been in the bottom 3 and we only have 7 left. Last year, Katherine McPhee didn't do well in polls I read around but she was always in or around the 5 in dialidol and look where she ended up. We never really know where these people are unless we see the votes and official rankings. I just tend to trust dialidol a bit more because it relies on people voting from their site and while this year it's off, it was consistently right prior to this year.

Honestly, I don't like Lakisha. When she sings, all I see is tongue. She has a weird lisp that I don't like, and her tongue is too big for her mouth. Her vocals are good, but I can't get over the whole sound of 'singing with new dentures in,' because that's what it sounds like.

Melinda and Jordin stole the night.

I love, love, love Jordin. She's gorgeous, she's got the look, and she sang "Broken Wing" so perfectly. Amazing!

Meanwhile, it looks like Melinda's toying with her hair for a bit of a younger look, which is great. Her hair last night was great, she looked smokin' hot! It took ten years off her appearance. Meanwhile, her version of "Trouble is a Woman" was fierce. Made me wanna dance!

If either if those two take it, I'll be happy. But at the same time, I sort of hope that they lose so that they won't be forced to sign some ridiculous record deal with American Idol. Let 'em call their own shots!

Meanwhile, the rest were very "meh." The bald dude, who sucked donkey nuts last week, was pretty good... but he was still nothing compared to Jordin and Melinda. The guys were all pretty ho-hum tonight, and Lakisha was just way out of her element.

Then Sanjaya. Does the dude ever get off the same note? He sings every song in the same note. The same tone, the same pitch... he seems to have absolutely ZERO singing ability. Blech! Get him gone!

Well then as mean as it sounds, she shouldn't be on "American Idol."

If you have a speech impediment, you shouldn't be a professional singer. If you have a speech impediment that keeps you from talking, you'll never be a star.

Everyone knows that the final two will be Jordin/Melinda. Everyone else should just go home.

Meanwhile, Sanjaya REALLY needs to go. It's not going to be funny or cute if his ass is allowed to stay while a genuinely decent performer gets sent packing.

    • Breakdown writers can pitch stories and obviously they have influence over what is included in the breakdown but MVJ is the final decision maker. It depends on the faith you have in MVJ if you feel Carlivati is going to be a problem. I don't think a throwaway having a book author named after him is a sign he's taken over the show. Most people didn't even catch the reference.
    • Tamara Tunie reading that damn letter is exactly why I wish this show had more experienced actors.

    • Oh wow. After reading your post, I realized that they had "Carl Ivati" in the script AGAIN yesterday June 6.    Eva said she was reading his latest, and Tomas said "Work's been so busy, I haven't had time to get into his new series". Then Eva proceeds to tell him that "the first book is called 'Mercy and Goodness' and it's all about how the couple first met and how they got separated".   She goes on and on about how great it is. And she says she has the book in her hotel room if he wants to borrow it. She says it has twists and turns. And meanwhile Kat is snooping in Eva's room to look for the helmet and gloves, and finds the book and dismisses it as "basic". I saw that whole scene -- but I wasn't paying attention to the name of the author.  And when Tomas said the name, I heard it in his accent so I didn't hear "carlivati".  II was mainly trying to see if the acting had improved with the actor playing Tomas, and I think he has improved somewhat.   I only see it when typed out. So they had several scenes yesterday about a "Carl Ivati" book?  Barf! Well at least Kat had the good sense to dismiss it as "basic". Ron Carlivati wrote the breakdown yesterday!   Featuring himself in it! Addressing to the collective "you" whoever you may be: Some of you, months ago, said Oh Ron is only doing breakdowns.  The story comes from MVJ, so he won't influence things, you said. May 27 started it, with Christopher Dunn breakdown and Lynn Martin script. But they didn't need to continue it June 6 with Carlivati breakdown and Jazmen Darnell Brown script.
    • I was completely lost. But it is wonderful that it exists. I didn't really know Robert Mandan had done soaps...well, besides SOAP.
    • Jack and Jennifer are tired. I just don't care about them when they return. They add nothing to the show.
    • Did they really bring back Jack and Jennifer for Jack to prop up Leo and Jenn to serve as an obstacle to Chad/Cat? Are we sure Ron still isn't in the building?
    • We can only hope that they finally kill off Leo too
    • We can only hope that maybe the new writers might read this.
