My favorite part of today is the sad stuff with Julia/Linda. These scenes are killing me - and I'm loving how Tad/Dixie/Julia/Jamie are interacting with the kids (Kathy, Little A). Great dialogue in this part today. Sydney Penny was amazing in that chapel scene with Tad watching on. Tears, emotion, raw - perfect.

Of course the Erica/Babe banter is hilarious...but Jeff Martin had to come in looking like a fool and ruin it!

Interesting about Zarf having Zach's mother ripped from a magazine, but I'm suspecting he had so many women cut out that he was just getting ideas on how to do hair/makeup/etc....nothing big.

Loving the Dani stuff -- I liked how Derek called her to check up on her.

But Zach's mother died over 30 years ago - what was Zarf doing with an old picture like that?

I've been waiting 18 years for Tad and Dixie to have a little girl so I'm excited to see their scenes with Kathy! I hope they find out she is Kate soon.

Sydney Penny totally owned this show today. She was REAL, her emotions, the situation is real drama...what soaps are supposed to be about. Her scenes have pulled me when I expect to be bored time and again.

With much ballyhooed Carlson stuff I expect to get pulled in and then end up tossed out of the moment by his broad interpretation of Zarf/Zoe (while acknowledging the characters are out there....still).

BTW, it's EvilMcHackVisionPimper!FatherClarence's fault, Julia...not yours.

I'm kinda bored with the rest of it.

Hobilly and Erica confrontation good but not as good as it should have been. At least Erica won out.

I hate that dress on Alexa. The whole presentation with bright blonde hair, fair skin and maybe even the pale background contributes...just looks so washed out to me. Thought I loved the bangs. I did for 1 eppy. Hate 'em bad now. I will have a hard time taking any serious secenes with BangBabe because it just youngs her up too much and makes her look a bit, vacuous, somehow. Let's bring back Big Girl-Grownup Hair.

I should have posted this for yesterday's show. Surprised more folks didn't find it objectionable how McT ripped off, so to speak Bianca's coming out scene. Deriative once more. The woman must not have a truly original thought in her head.

McT is a hack and a thief (simultaneously destroying and plagiarizing Agnes Nixon's vision).

And just how many tranny beatings, strippings, humiliations, interrogations, falsie exposings, do you reckon we'll get before this is all over? Want to make sure to be down the TG as much as possible to help build up Babe as much as possible. Folks are eating it up with a spoon.

Awesome ending! Tanisha did a great job at feeling something, then passing out, then coming to, and then passing out for good.

So this is interesting that Josh and Babe are the ones who found Erin and Simone dead - and now they'll be the ones to find Dani unconscious.

Finally - I don't think Dani will die. Now the question is, when she looked up before finally passing out - did she see the Satin Slayer standing over her? It made it seem like she did - and if she did - will she remember or completely forget? Maybe she'll be the only one to know, but she'll be in the hospital and can't say anything!

Interesting!!!

Oh yeah.

I don't care for his interpretation of Derek Frye in general, but I really bought what Charles Parnell's (is that right?) acting today. Really good, I felt his worry over Dani on a father level. I liked he was so serious in a realistic way with SuperCouple/BossesO'Kendall Zach and Ryan. Just a really nice job.

I just miss OriginalRecipeDerek's humor and understanding of the foibles and flaws of PV residents. The role still belongs to him, imo.

ACK!! Dr. Wuss Martin...making his move. ACK!! Make it stop.

As much as I enjoy the opportunity to see Dani, I HATE it's just to be another victim. Yeah, she may survive, I hope she does and it means the beginning of more participation from entire Frey clan. No trust in TPTB, so I can't say I am hopeful...just wishing.

ITA that Sydney Penney owned this episode. I can't think of enough superlatives to describe her!

I loved that Erica won the battle with Babe, even if it hasn't become an all-out war yet. I hope for more scenes like this with both Kendall & Bianca joining their mother. :P

I loved Tad telling Dixie how worried he is for her; it feels like a baby step to their reunion to me.

I think you're right, AlwaysAMC, that Zarf was collecting women's pictures from magazines for ideas on clothing, makeup, hairstyles, etc. In my worst McTavishian nightmare, Zarf would be a Cambias. I would be so happy to never hear that surname again!

I just wish Dani had had more substantial material before she was poisoned. It's been so long since Tanisha was utilized that to me her scenes with Derek felt contrived yesterday, as did their phone call today.

I will agree that the Frye stuff is contrived in order to further push the Satin Slayer storyline but I still loved that they are getting scenes and they truly did have warmth and depth to them. I thought today's episode for the most part was really intriguing and entertaining and intense with the Satin Slayer stalking Dani. She so saw whoever it was at the end because she gasped and then passed out. That tells me its definately someone she knows! I would assume so. Because she like totally woke up out of her groggyness. So that means its someone on the canvas if you ask me.

The whole stuff regarding Kathy and Julia today, was amazing. I am so glad that finally TPTB see what talent Sydney Penny has and aren't wasting her like they have for the majority of her return. I loved Tad and Julia's scene in the chapel and really like they are developing the Tad/Julia friendship. Its really sweet and I will agree with Steve, that little comment Tad made to Dixie about not wanting to lose her, foreshadowing of things to come. I am relieved they took Dixie in Tad's direction again. Putting her with Zach damn near destoryed the character for me!

Babe and Erica were fun as always but god why did Jeff have to come in? I hate him now almost as much as I hate his son. Josh I am sorry but he is dead to me now. STFU! His scenes with Kendall wanted me to smack him. I can't Believe Kendall is taking his B.S.

I know. I've long hated Josh and lately Jeff, and I couldn't stand Kendall today, either. Kendall has not been written well for a long time; imo, McT really has no clue who this character is. I'm still hopeful that the old fiery Kendall will return once McT is released and I'm optimistic that is will happen in April.

With Zarf's/Zoe's written in rather vigorous pursuit of Bianca, I'd call it sick in the extreme, considering her history. Wouldn't surprise me...but think about it. Jeez.

McTravesty prides herself and pats herself on the back publicly for *insight* into and love of the Kane Women. I think she knows nothing but to destroy them. It's kind of like HoBabe, be very very afraid should she love you. Be very very afraid should McT get inspired to write for you.

Why would Zarf/Zoe have pics of Zach's mom from a magazine that would have to be 30 years old or something. Was it a sketch or a mag photo of Amelia? I must have missed something here, help?

    • A very rare, fascinating look at camera blocking in a 1980 episode. Very loose, almost startlingly so (who expects to see Will Vernon with a cig dangling out of his mouth?). @vetsoapfan There's some Jacquie Courtney content in the back half of the video.

    • 1976 Pt 5 Joanne’s hopes are raised when Jack seems to respond to the new woman she’s become. She wore a new dress and had a lovely dinner with wine, and when Jack drank more than he was used to having, he reached for her. Her happiness is dimmed when he calls her Peggy, but she says nothing. The next morning, when Jack can remember nothing, she tells him they made love. When Peggy later tells Joanne she’s going to have to stop helping her make herself over as it’s becoming too painful, Joanne angrily lashes back that Peggy might just as well back off, because Jack made love to her last night. Peggy, angry and hurt, asks Jack if it’s true. Realizing that Joanne told Peggy to hurt her, he tells Peg he’s going to ask Joanne for a divorce now. But Peggy is still guilt-ridden over Joanne and, fearing she can’t handle it yet, tells Jack about Joanne’s suicide attempt. Jack, horrified, goes home to see Joanne, who soon realizes that Peggy must have told him about the pills. She assures Jack that she knows life is too precious to ever do that again. Once Jack is satisfied that she really means it, he returns to us Peggy. But Peggy is close to breaking from the guilt and tension she’s living with, and tells Jack that if he’s ever free, they can decide then. Needing a fresh perspective, Peggy takes Chris up on her offer that Peggy spend the night with her, as Snapper won’t be home.  Chris, meanwhile, has been spending her free time preparing Nancy’s apartment for her homecoming. Expressing appreciation for everything she’s done, Ron has offered to make her a table similar to one he’s made for Nancy. Chris has thanked him and has given him her address so he can deliver it. Stuart, wondering why Ron can’t seem to get another job despite the leads he’s been given, checks him out and learns he was in prison for burglary but there was also’ a rape charge, which was dropped. Chris asks Nancy, who explains that before their marriage Ron picked up a woman in a bar. She took him to her apartment and began to seduce him but then screamed rape. He had taken nothing, Nancy adds, but was told he’d rot in prison if he didn’t plead guilty to burglary. No one  told him that the woman had declined to testify. Nancy was the only one who believed him, and she with him against her family’s wishes. Ron walks in at the end of the conversation and informs Chris that he tried to deliver her table but  finally realized he was looking for the wrong address. When Chris later returns to her apartment, she finds Peggy whimpering on the floor in the dark. Slowly Chris gets the story from Peg: The lights wouldn’t -work when she arrived, and she was grabbed from behind, thrown to the floor, and raped. Chris convinces Peggy that the police must be called and manages to protect Peggy from brutal questioning by insisting upon an officer trained in dealing with rape victims. After Peggy is taken to the hospital, the investigator, Miss Weston, asks Chris who might have  known Peg was there—or might want to rape Chris herself. After thinking this over, Chris tells her about Ron. Jack has been trying to reach Peggy. Lashing out from his own pain, Stuart brutally tells him that she’s been raped and he is partially to blame, as she went to Chris’s to get away from her problem—him. Jack is shattered. Instinctively knowing that Ron is guilty, Chris confronts him. But Ron sticks to his story of looking for a wrong address and, under pressure from Chris, finally offers to be in a lineup. Brock tells his mother that Jill wants to visit Phillip’s grave. Kay replies it will be “a cold day in hell” before. She does. But when Jill asks Kay if she would put some flowers on the grave for her and her baby, Kay, touched, breaks down and asks Jill to go with her. Liz, knowing that Kay spends too much time alone, virtually forces her to accept an invitation for dinner and then invites Ralph Olsen, a plumber who is a widower. Kay is aloof at first -they apparently have nothing in common—but when Ralph turns out to be a former alcoholic, the ice is broken. Ralph offers to help Kay with her drinking problem, and she soon finds she likes him very much. Liz becomes concerned with Kay’s assumption that her friendship with Ralph is heading for much more and tries to warn Kay that. Ralph is not the marrying kind. She tries to head Kay off when she makes plans for a “love nest,” but Kay persists and attempts to seduce Ralph at her pool. He evades her passes and asks her if they can’t just slow things down. But Kay is undaunted, and since he isn’t proposing, she does so herself. Ralph, who has told Bill that Kay’s money stands in‘ their way, gently turns her down, explaining that she would need to change him and they wouldn’t be happy. Humiliated and hurt, Kay starts drinking again.
    • I think it wasn't just some of the poor casting choices that did the show in during its early days, but also the flat writing. Perhaps it was network interference? You'd think the Dobsons would have fought harder for their original vision, but after 6 months they dropped most of it.
    • Small Bar is a better set than the casino set.
    • The show loses me once the crime stories are in overload.  Heather and Jerry's marriage doesn't excite me. It would have been tawdry, but I think there should have been more lingering in Heather and/or Greg's feelings for the other. Or at least having someone suspect that their newfound sibling relationship was more complicated. But none of their parents were around. It just feels like they burned through too much story there too quickly.  Ellen and Dale's romance definitely seems intriguing. I don't think I knew they toyed with Jill having feelings for Dale, which would have meant that Jill was once again considering going after her mother's man. That's a very interesting dynamic. With David coming home from Hong Kong, and Tom afraid of David's involvement, I think they should have given Tom and Jill a try. Tom trying to use Jill to buy respectability and maintain power at the law firm.  Vicki and Tony's affair seems like fun with Vicki just seeming to see Tony as more of a sexual object and it leading to a health crisis. There was probably some space to explore that both Tony and Ginger's fathers were criminals (Tony's bio dad). I can't remember if Harry Wilson/Ike Harding died, fled town, or went to prison. If he was alive, I think he would have been worth revisiting.  What fascinated me about "Somerset" in early 1976 is its a show of remnants, pieces of the show's different eras, and they seem to sorta work, not as well as more well defined canvas would. I do think a streamlining was needed, but I am not sure if the criminal angle was the best route to choose.
    • Thanks for finding that about the Andrade home. I think it wasn't show in the opening weeks, but I may be wrong. With Danny in Los Angeles and Santana on her own, I don't think much space was given to Rosa and Reuben. It might have been nice to see them engaged in a healthy relationship threatened by Rosa keeping Santana's recently uncovered pregnancy from Reuben or even a visit from one of their other chidlren.  During the 1991 dinner, I think Rosa stated she would go home after work, which I took to me that she left the Capwell estate.
