Okay. I get that people are crazy because Y&R is churning through writers at warp speed. But why take it out on a new hire like Brett Staneart who people have only seen one episode of?

According to Toups' info, he started on GL in '99, first working as a script writer in 2004. He obviously spent a lot of years working on a soap before getting a writing gig. And yet on the board here, he's getting blasted for not having enough experience and being LML's lapdog.

I've seen a lot of calls for "new blood" and "people who respect soaps"... but isn't that what Brett's background would suggest?

Seriously. After reading these boards, it seems like nothing will make anyone happy. You say you want new blood... then ridicule it when it shows up.

I saw a wish list of people wishing prime time writers would come to daytime. Maybe that would be great. But writing 22 episodes a year is very different than 200. And when a primetime writer like LML comes to daytime, she's absolutely villified.

It seems like that these boards are just about complaining.

I'm not saying soaps - and writers - don't deserve critiquing. None of the shows are perfect. But, man, reaading these are just depressing. It seems to me to be another case of people, hidden by the anonymity of the web, feeling empowered to say the nastiest things that they would NEVER have the courage to say if their name were attached, let alone in person.

C'mon, people. Can we try and be decent?

I agree in certain things you say, but they would deserve a topic on their own.

I'm not sure I would call Brett new blood - eight years makes you a veteran. And when people are talking about new blood, they refer to young and talented writers, either dramatists or prose writers, who are never given a chance to knock on Barbie's door and deliver some sort of spec script.

And your argument about 250 not being equal to 22 (or 24 or 26) is a frequent argument here, emphasised by many, including me.

We are decent, maybe a bit pessimistic, but the industry is not giving us much hope. Things are worsening, not improving. And death of daytime is a terrifying thought. It won't come soon, first they'll have to find a model or programmes that will replace it. And replace it successfully.
