Marla Kanelos as associate head writer? Did she replace anybody? Chip "Zarf" Hayes, please? (Amanda Beall would be too much to ask for).

Marla didn't replace anyone she wrote both the Breakdown and the script on Friday.

If she was signed as both Assoc. and Breakd. than she must have replaced someone... she was always ONLY script... and now she's ASSOC. too.

Then go back and watch the tape your self the credits ran like this

Babs and James

Chip Hayes

Addie Walsh

Stephen Demorest

Michelle Patrick

Amanda Beall

Marla Kanelos all by herself

So she wasn't listed as an associate head writer -- she just, presumably, wrote the breakdown.

But, then again, I wouldn't be too trusting of the AMC Chyron department, considering Joanna Bugler  wrote a script this week.

I know this, but usually, they air the other assoc. writer along with the script writer, and this time there was only Marla Kanelos. I though the same too, but Toups said Marla wrote both Breakdown/Assoc. We'll have to wait and see.

Maybe Marla is "auditioning" to be an associate head writer, and since she's already a scriptwriter, she just wrote the script to her own breakdown. Like I said, she wasn't listed with Walsh, Hayes, Demorest, Patrick and Beall, so it's not confirmed she actually IS an associate head writer. She probably just pitched the episode, wrote the outline and did double duty by writing the script -- since the breakdowns are written in advance to the script. But I really don't see why AMC needs SIX associate head writers. I can testify that they need NEW associate head writers (and script writers), but adding yet another makes no sense.

Unless they're making room for Kate Hall as a contracted script writer, then they would need to move Marla up. But again, since she wasn't credited as an associate head writer, I'm reluctant to view her as such. We'll just have to wait until Monday's episode to see if she is listed.

But considering Beall, Hayes and Kanelos all worked under B&E and JHC, I wouldn't be surprised.

They did.

Remember: Marla used to write breakdowns at AMC in 2004. She left for a bit and then came back as a SW.

By the way, Toups' archive (a.k.a. The Bible) reads the 9/25 episode of AMC as having the script written by Courtney Bugler -- didn't it read Joanna Bugler on screen?

Did I miss something? How was that determined?

Thanks for catching it. I'll see what I can find out.

A strike could be good, since many of the hacks will be out of a job temporarily. Of course, the writing on the shows could get worse, but a day without Latham is a good day for me. Who knows, she might actually quit when the strike is over (wishful thinking).

Strike authorization vote

This afternoon, the WGA announced a strike authorization vote — which is a very different thing than calling a strike. But it’s apt to be misreported wildly in tomorrow’s papers.

If voted through, a strike authorization allows (but does not require) the WGA to call a strike after the contract expires October 31, 2007. Another obvious use? As leverage in ongoing negotiations. The Hollywood Reporter points out:

Such votes are common prior to contract expirations and don’t necessarily indicate pessimism over prospects for a settlement.

For instance, the Teamsters took such a vote mere days before settling on their most recent contract with the AMPTP (HR 8/2). Leaders of Teamsters Local 399, who negotiate jointly with four Basic Crafts locals, simply sought to underscore the seriousness of their intent in buttoning up several deal points as the calendar counted down toward a July 31 contract expiration.
