I was reading my history book and it said that Nancy remarried after her husband died...well what happened to her second husband? I find it amazing that they'd give a woman her age a second husband (that would never happen today), but then they killed off a second one? What luck! I'm not sure if he died, but I imagine he couldn't have been cheating or anything like that, lol.

If I remember correctly it all occurred under Doug Marland's tenure on the show. He had Nancy marry police lt. Dan McCloskey. He was very good, and he and Nancy were cut together. He later got Alzheimer's and it was supposed to be a long story in Douglas Marland's original plans. But when Marland died the next writers shortened the story and killed off Dan.

Thanks for answering my question! Not surprising that the story was dropped once Marland was gone. Not many writers have an interest in older characters these days.

Black and Stern didn't think anyone would want to watch an old man die slowly on screen so they gave Dan a fatal heart attack.

It is interesting to note that later Nancy had a friend who was also a widow. She got Nancy to take dance lessons with her. The two middle aged men were con artists and it was hinted that they were going to romance them out of their money.

A writer's change happened. The friend,the dance studio and the men dissappeared without explanantion and there was nothing mentioned of it again.

That was probably Helen Wagner's last storyline.

I don't count her involvement in Alison and Chris and Katie's lovelife a storyline.
