November 23, 200619 yr Member For me, some of the biggest Oscar Snubs ever was........... Angela Bassett "What's Love Got to do with It." Angela Bassett was sensational in that film, and deserved to win. Jim Carrey "The Truman Show." Jim Carrey's finest performance, and was shamefully overlooked. Whoopi Goldberg "The Colour Purple." Best Lead Actress should have been hers. The movie alone deserved something.
November 23, 200619 yr Member You think JC deserved an Oscar for Truman show!? I have to disagree with that. I think Annette Benning should have gotten one for American Beauty. I think Kate Winslet and Gloria Stuart both deserved a win for Titanic. And as FEEL BAD a movie as it was, Frances MacDormand and Charlize Theron for North Country. Wow. I have never seen a woman act her ass off as good as Charlize did in that.
November 23, 200619 yr Member I agree with Charlize Theron in North Country. I find Anette Benning awful and overrated. Kate Winslet should already be a 3 time oscar winner.
November 23, 200619 yr Member I can see how people feel that way about Annette, but wow, do I love her portrayal of Caroline in AB. She was so f-ing good! Not that it would ever get nominated, but I also think Natalie Portman was outstanding in Garden State. That was her best character ever, IMO. So far, anyway!
November 23, 200619 yr Member Totally agree on Whoopie and the "Color Purple". Sensational film and acting (BTW: why isn't Oprah doing movies anymore???). Same goes for "Frida". At least Selma Hayek got a nod, but the movie itself got nothing which is a pure shame. I also thought Kate Winslet was fantastic in "Titanic"... I know we're talking about snubs, but connected to this many films were robbed due to some egregious choices by the Academy: I for one never got why "Lord of the Rings" should haven gotten any Oscar nomninations & wins at all - apart from creative affairs or maybe once directing. Ridiculously overrated epos, IMO. The third part of Harry Potter meanwhile, direct by this fantatstic Mexican (?) art filmer, was snubbed - this was art-house directing in an Hollywood blockbuster and it was SO good.
November 24, 200619 yr Member 2 recent Oscar nomination snubs our Ralph Feines for The Constant Gardener-WOW simply a marvelous, flawless performances Joan Allen-The Upside of Anger-she was so funny and refreshing to watch Robert
November 24, 200619 yr Member Denzel Washington in The Hurricane. He was FAR better than Russell Crowe, so I do not know how Russell won that year.
November 24, 200619 yr Member Ralph Feines for The Constant Gardener-WOW simply a marvelous, flawless performances How could I forget. And I also thought the movie itself was amazing. But I quibble since the fantastic "Crash" (finally the jury got it right again!) got the Oscar...
