I know what you mean.

Scene 1: Mimi whining about losing Shawn

Scene 2: Hope whining to Patrick about Bo losing her trust

Scene 3: EJ telling Sami she needs to come clean with Austin

Scene 4: Mysterious Gloved Hand lurking

*Opening Sequence

Who can blame S&K fans for tuning out after seeing this?

Actually my dear, Chad and Whitney are together because of the FANS. JER said that in his interview last month. Even he was shocked that the majority of fans wanted them together, so he gave them what they wanted.

Wow... AMC was doing a lot better summer of 04... they really slid down... OLTL was awful until DH took over, then it got very good for a bit (evidenced in the ratings climb) but then went right back to what didn't work under the previous HW- focus on newbies and 'star couples' and not focusing on characters folks care about. Funny how the ratings jumped when they focused on core families and characters and plunge when that is ignored... on AMC and OLTL. This makes me think it's not really the HWs but higher ups at ABC.

GH has really taken a plunge, eh? I only tuned in briefly to see Robert back, and Anna... but the overall mob stories don't hold me there, so I didn't stay. I don't know most of those people anymore.

JER is all for torturing couples and characters, perhaps more than any other soap writer.

I really don't know if Matt, Austin, and Christie leaving will cause DAYS' ratings to sink. We forget not everyone has Internet access and reads soap mags. There are still people still spoiler free, and watch or tape not knowing what we know. There are also people that watch soaps for all stories and all characters, not just a select few. That's what REALLY matters.

I agree Bree but even those online or that are in the know with spoilers still mostly watch for stories and the show itself. The ratings for Days reflect that, especially the last few weeks where Days has done really well while other shows have fallen apart. Good writing and good stories=good ratings so certain couples or characters leaving is not enough to kill ratings. Now if there is a mass exodus of popular characters then maybe there is trouble but it has only been a few so I don't see an issue right now.

LOL The truth hurts, doesn't it?

Ask TC actor if Passions is better.

Ask Ivy actress if Passions is better.

Ask Sam actor if Passions is better.

Ask Whitney actress if Passions is better.

And that's only for starters.

I won't even go into how Amelia Marshall, a veteran of soaps such as Guiding Light, was completely WASTED.

The ratings will be at 1.0 by the end of the year. Nobody likes to have their chains jerked for no reason.

If you believe Reilly, then I have a pot of land to sell you. lol What fans? The ones who are still watching and increasing the ratings? lol So Reilly would give the oh so many Incest fans what they wanted and not do the same for the many Ethan and Theresa fans? Or the Luis and Sheridan fans? lol Yeah, right. lol

1.0 by the end of the year.

    • I assume they did at some point during the finale...
    • Kelly was a horribly-written character overall. Just think, two Emmy-winning actresses (including Cynthia Watros, Nina, GH, and Annie, GL) couldn't make it work. Pamela is campy, but so are Dani, Vanessa, Leslie, and Joey. And, I don't want to be too judgy because my love for camp changes depending on the show. OLTL, DAYS, and some eras of GH had me rolling with the camp. However, Passions was overkill and I hated it. And, here, I can take it or leave it. It's ok in small doses (note to RC). I see this show as more of a serious drama.
    • I think one of the reasons that pilot didn't get picked up was because Vicki L was associated more with being Thelma Harper and playing older then she was playing her own age.  It was a blessing it didn't get picked up, or we would have been deprived of the syndicated era of Mama's Family.   Also, worth noting a Pre Night Court Marsha Warfield and pre Perfect Strangers Rebecca Arthur in the cast.  All talented women, but stuck with a bad script. And the other pilot had a pre Fran Fine.. Fran Drescher as the best friend.  I think that pilot might have been picked up if Karen Valentine and Fran Drescher switched roles.
    • So, on rewatch....did Rick and Mindy never have sex?
    • Cady had a fairly posh accent or manner as Rosanna - the character was a 180 from Dixie when she went to ATWT, and it was a huge success initially. As someone mostly only familiar with the nagging, miserable or clueless Dixie of the mid-late '90s and early 2000s it was what convinced me Cady could act. I thought she was incredible in her first run. Later, in future stints, her hair and story and performances were all over the place but a lot of that was down to the show for me. She brought some of Rosanna back with her to Dixie in her ill-fated return and a lot of people didn't like it, which I understood but I did think the character needed some change. I think she's had a little bit of the same persona and arch performance in every role she's played since, including Jennifer Horton at DAYS or Kelly at Y&R, who later became a maniac and was easily the worst work I've ever seen Cady do. It has kind of infected her overall mannerisms, I'll allow that, but I do think she brought Dixie back together as herself while still evolving the character when she returned to AMC again in 2012-13. Nonetheless, for me the upshot is that this is a character where Cady's kookier recent performance style suits the role. But I can understand it grating for people.
    • Yeah, Loretta Swit's passing stings. My late dad LOVED the show (he died last November) and watched it religiously. In first run and repeats.  And I was literally born the day after the show's premiere, so I grew up with it! I know many loved later, softer Margaret, but I loved Early Hot Lips. In real life, I'm all for less misogyny, but to me, the early years of M*A*S*H were just funnier. May Loretta Swit rest in peace. Thanks for all the memories connected to my dad!

    • I agree that she isn't Dixie or Rosanna and shouldn't be acting like either. I just found it strange that she had a naive Southern character and a wealthy urbane character in the past and didn't experiment with accents before (unless I missed it, correct me if I'm wrong). She used to do improv characters on YouTube. She's probably doing something similar here.

    • And here I thought I'd never think about Lauren Tewes again after her brief appearance in Twin Peaks Season 3.
    • I may be the single person who does not mind Transatlantic Campy Pamela. I think it perfectly suits this sort of Absolutely Fabulous-esque supporting character she's playing much more than it did when Cady tried weird and often broad stuff at AMC* or Y&R, or later stints at ATWT. She's not Dixie and she's not trying to be. I will freely admit some of the other chances she took at other shows often came off stiff, hammy or downright mortifying (Kelly Andrews, come on down). (* - and I say that as one of the few who was somewhat into Cady trying to make Dixie more cosmopolitan in the Rosanna Cabot mold in mid-2000s AMC, just to liven the character up again)
