They probably don't get high ratings against soaps on an individual basis, but I'm sure if you add together reruns of shows like the CSIs, L&Os, and others, and put them up against soaps, they take a sizable chunk out of the soaps' ratings.

IMO, the main cause for people not watching soaps much anymore is that people are A, not at home during the daytime, and B, if they are, they're watching cable. I don't think good shows would bring the ratings up, but they'd most likely bring up the number of online views and TiVo/DVR recordings, etc.

Well, a newsflash for ya. :P As much as it's lovely to see Bruce defend it, he'll actually have no say if someone "up there" decides to cancel it. He is overseen by at least two people: Erin Gough Wehrenberg (to whom he responds directly) and Zucker, of course.

its one of the shows i dont watch the new episodes at all, but the reruns? always. i dont even really like the show, yet i cant not watch reruns when i see they are on. and i dont know why. i do the same whing with a few other sitcoms tho.

ha. so true.

That may be, but still... to hear ANYONE from NBC speak good about days is so unheard of now its nice. Hell, id be happy if the boy handing out mail said he liked days or something. lol. im a simple person to please! lol.

Roger Newcomb has these new ratings for Soapnet (press release, so "spin alert"). Note the absence of GH...which appears to be tanking on both the network and the cable channel.

I'm a little surprised nothing is here about the "prized" acquisitions, like 90210, OTH, Melrose, He's Not That Into You (or whatever the thing is called) or Being Erica.

Melrose was mercilessly plucked off the lineup in favor of more 90210 several months ago, so yeah. I'm really interested in how the daytime teen dramas do. I imagine OTH might do well with the college crowd, but if its the high schoolers they're going after, those folks are still in school. Though OTH might be expected to skew just a tad bit older than the high school demo because its original core audience is now college-aged. The OC probably does better than OTH.

    • I guess he was let out the gates, because he's outside.
    • Yup.  You can hate John all you want, but like seriously he was the cornerstone of the show for years.  So he should get a long ass funeral and burial and all the things because Drake and John deserve that.

      look who’s at a party I’m at
    • Yes. We should absolutely move on from John/Drake's 40 year legacy on the show to see what Leo is going to do tomorrow.  Lol.  This can't be a serious post.

I came in with a dream and left with a purpose. From lecture halls to rehearsals, community work to creative sets, every moment shaped me. I’m so proud of the stories I’ve told here — and the ones still unfolding. Grateful to everyone who poured into me, supported me, challenged me, and believed in me. Fours up and peace out! #UCLA #ClassOf2025 #BlackBruinExcellence #YearbookVideo @jordanward
    • The actor who plays Martin has been teasing that nobody has guessed Martin's secret. I love that for things like that and the June story we have no idea. I feel like if we didn't have the day ahead feeds Anita's reveal would've been shocking as well. I love that they aren't going the obvious route with these stories.
    • I tried following the news in Los Angeles at https://laist.com (independent public radio and news) They had up-to-the minute accurate info during the wildfires in January. There's no video, no impact to my mind as to what's happening. Trying other outlets, to get the truth, but it's hard.
    • That's a bit murky since that happened during a writers' strike. Assuming Kristen Marie had a 2-year contract she left about when her contract would have expired and Sharlene and Josie showed up right before that. Lemay was officially credited as HW from September 1988 but it seems very probable that his anticipated tenure influenced events that happened during the strike which started in April.
    • I've seen so many posters over the years who are bright, creative, well-versed in soap history, and who care deeply about the integrity of the genre. I'd put the shows' chances in their hands a lot faster than I would allow any of the "usual suspects" to take control of the dramas they've already helped decimate. When I returned to university in the 1980s, I created a bible for a new soap and presented it in my screenwriting class. It was in reaction to how badly I saw the network shows being butchered at the time. The creative process was thrilling; a total joy, and I still smile when I remember the positive feedback I received from the professor and my fellow students. I was used to seeing written commentary from professors on my work. This one wrote me a long, complimentary note on the final page of the bible, but also graded it 97%, A+. I was beaming ear to ear for days!
