All My Children Tribute Thread
There was an interesting timeline of events, and I still wonder how things all came together. Frances Heflin had passed away in June, so I assumed Susan Lucci had been given time off to grieve. The tornado aired in July. When Erica returned from Seattle in August, she discovered Mona had died in her sleep in Erica’s home, Linden House. During her time off, Susan Lucci had her infamous “nose management”. I don’t know if her surgery had been scheduled before Ms. Heflin’s passing and the timing was coincidental, or if it was something Ms. Lucci was able to quickly schedule. At any rate, she looked radiant when she returned, sporting a new profile. I don’t remember Erica saying much or anything about the tornado, but we still saw the effects of it. Tad couldn’t go to the funeral as he was still in the hospital, and a still bandaged Kendall made a scene at the wake.

The View
One thing I’ve never agreed with Rosie about this incident is that it was set up by the producers as evidenced by the split screen. While they certainly should have gone to commercial and let things cool down, instead, salivating over the fight knowing it would make headlines, it was clear that the argument grew organically. Rosie has said that the split screen needed to be set up in advance (which she knew from the days of having her own show), but that is simply not true. We were doing split screens live in my seventh grade TV production class. They only went to split screen so the TD didn’t have to keep cutting back and forth between cameras in such a heated confrontation and risk missing something. If they were seated next to one another, it would have been a two shot.

I feel like Li is going to lose her medical license and be prosecuted for falsifying documents and kidnapping while Sheila gets of on some irrational technicality.

😆👍🏻 Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane! 🤩 Ugh, I hope this is not the last of Tripp! I'm from the D.C. area and "the Exorcist steps" in Georgetown is a local attraction. Had Tripp taken a tumble down a flight of stairs after he jumped out of the window just like in the movie would have been thoroughly satisfying. The last time a soap character took a great fall down a staircase was Dorian on OLTL when Viki's alter Tommy gave her a great push.

So was that KB's last episode? I was very relieved by the wire twist with the police barging in, having been listening all along. It was driving me crazy that they were sitting there having a palaver with Sheila, and how everyone was resisting the urge to beat her ass.

I agree.👍🏻 I'm watching right now on Peacock and those were my exact words. If I remove myself from the show's history and take these episodes at face value, I can see how teens would enjoy it the same way they enjoyed Passions (as someone mentioned upthread) and shows on Disney. I'm all for the idea that there's several ways to be a soap. But I do realize how frustrating it is for loyal viewers to see the identities of their shows change so drastically. I went through it with AMC and OLTL. I'm also very against naming that baby Bo. I say this as one of many relatives (including my own dad) named after my great-grandfather, but soaps (especially B&B) do this to death. It's particularly egregious when a baby is named after an iconic character like Bo. Thank G-d Kendall nor Bianca never named a daughter Erica, I would have been sick.

Thanks for sharing. Loved seeing Dorian at the piano in that protracted scene about her childhood. Hearing her talk about being the middle child bookended by artistically gifted yet mentally/emotionally troubled sisters was quite touching. It’s nice to see that the show would later build upon the history established in this scene rather than forgetting or ignoring it. Kassie DePaiva should have been another Cramer daughter. Every time I see Mia Korf, I’m back to square one. Also! Color me shocked to see that there was an actual onscreen Rodi once upon a time! And played by LaTanya Richardson Jackson at that!

Does your soap have a "Red Swan", a s/l or phrase or character that makes you groan?
On B&B… Maya referencing her picture over the mantel, referring to herself as the Forrester matriarch ad nauseam. For a show with a character named Hope, it became like a drinking game the way the word “hope” was worked into line after line of dialogue. I never ever grew tired of Dorian calling for 🎶Carlotta🎶 but hearing ~*Badhra*~ got on my damn nerves. This one is actually a little endearing in hindsight, but on AMC, Corvina and that damn leopard!

ARTICLE: Peacock Orders Second Chapter of ‘Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem,’ Kristian Alfonso and Peter Reckell to Reprise Roles
I’m glad to see this! As much as I criticize DOOL for being a soap not written for adults or intelligent people of any age, I’m still eating this junk food 5x/week and enjoying it. These Peacock specials are a real treat to the fans, I don’t think the majority of us would have ever expected such after we’ve seen so many of our shows canceled.

Bare Essence (1982-83)
The full series used to be on YouTube. I tried to follow along but lost patience as it was dubbed in German, which I do not speak. Jessica Walter appeared to be a fine replacement for Lee Grant, just wish I could have heard her. We all know she was Esther Shapiro’s choice for Alexis, and her Ava is certainly styled in the Alexis vein, often seen talking on her mod chrome and lucite sphere phone while smoking white 120’s. WaPo review of the series debut: https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/lifestyle/1983/02/15/such-gloss-such-dross-its-bare-essence/99912ded-56e3-4956-befe-b3225ac57abe/

Days of Our Lives: April 2022 Discussion Thread
A couple of weeks ago, Leo and Craig had scenes where they were dining out and Leo kept encouraging Craig to “live” and order decadent food (steak, and so on). It totally reminded me of Maureen Stapleton’s character in Interiors when she’s telling her fiancé’s daughters over dinner how she’s been widowed twice all the while encouraging their father to indulge in gravy and cheesecake as ya only live once. She’s colorful (literally) and “fun” a la Leo, Nancy and Geraldine Page’s character in Interiors sharing the duped and rejected role as first and now no-longer-thrilling unwanted wife.

A New Day in Eden
@DRW50 Wow, thanks for sharing, what a find! I look forward to watching the whole thing. No offense, but I thought that was a bunch of men’s feet in that first shot until the reveal. 😬😝

RIP Helmut Huber
Exactly. These things are not always so simple. If she wasn’t given the information for the private services or told flat out that it’s preferred that she not be there, it is what it is. I’ve seen similar situations play out in my own family, not to mention children of the departed who refuse to attend the funerals of their own parents. We don’t know the intimate details of this family’s various relationships. I pray that Liza finds her own way to mourn her father’s passing that brings her peace.

RIP Helmut Huber
I can only imagine how difficult it must be for Liza to get a steady stream of condolences from well-intentioned strangers when her relationship with her parents isn’t what most imagine. My heart goes out to their family.

Days of Our Lives: April 2022 Discussion Thread
It was so lovely when a character like Phoebe Tyler Wallingford referenced her long departed daughter, Anne. But on this show, a reference to Gloria Loring/Liz and Friends and Lovers feels so sticky and self-congratulatory, you can just picture the "clever" writer patting themself on the back.

Falcon Crest
She was such a great casting choice as Dr. Mike’s mom on another beautifully produced popular CBS series. I love Georgann Johnson, particularly for her work in Hitchcock’s anthologies, not a bad replacement by any means. That interview with Ms. Wyman is a treat. Like Ellen Holly’s archive interview, I like to revisit those clips every now and then, never tiring of them. And I think she looked very elegant and age/personality appropriate as Angela. I read a biography of her years ago, my memory is a little cloudy, but I think the author was touching upon comparisons to the ever-glamorous Lana Turner’s image compared to Jane’s which was more salt of the earth. Jane showed up to upfronts one season in an ivory gown dripping in ermine and completely wowed the crowd.

Bare Essence (1982-83)
@Joseph those screen caps are from the opening credits when the show went to series, or at least, the opening credits of the German dub found on YouTube. I’ve wondered if the Sarah Vaughan song by Billy Goldenberg from the miniseries was used for the series.

Who is that in the last picture with Olympia, Chip Lucia? I am really bad with my ‘80s OLTL characters.
