Seems convoluted, doesn't it? Someone just gave me a great idea. We should do a calendar for charity, Soap Fans Against Drunk Driving, the Molly of the Month calendar!

ALL: The niche potential for streaming classic soaps
It is on the top 10 most wanted list, not of soaps, of shows, period! It & China Beach & Moonlighting are said to be held up over .... da dum ... music rights.

🤔🙄😶🤐🤣🤣🤣 Okay, good one. The First, Unfortunately!!! His Nikolas Really makes Wish Stavros was Still Alive! He so looks Like RKK in Looks and Acting Style! I hate they are ruining Nikolas' Character for Sh*t! Unfortunately RKK doesn't act any more. He could have been shoehorned in as a cameo.

Yeah, Eddie brought up to me that in the ending of the scene we see them & they have dialogue. And, of course, I saw it for myself. Maybe it is a case of MOST of the episode focusing entirely on two characters only. IDK. Because it was very natural for them to be there at the conclusion.

GENERAL HOSPITAL September 2023 Discussion Thread
I do not understand what the heck was the point of even having Nik on this week!!! Mason could have told Austin that Nik escaped & when they got ready to actually do something with the character THEN he could have reappeared. This week was both confusing & a waste of our valuable time, if you ask me!

Yes, you make a good point. Eddie & Mike & the AWHP is an absolutely invaluable resource but that doesn't mean there's not new information, debunking, etc. & anything has to be looked at on a case-by-case basis.

Okay, I stand corrected. It is shown elsewhere different but I will always go with AWHP if there is an issue.

Back when Pat had the first abortion! And, didn't some soap have a bunch of folk killed in a car crash? Wait. Plane crash, into some mountains? I just couldn't figure out how it found its way to Bay City. Anyway, my memory is like soap twins. The good twin remembers amazing details about the oddest things & the evil twin just swears at me to be left alone & won't even try to remember other things. Someone told me just this week that when they were cleaning out the AMC studio they just dumped Agnes's writing desk unceremoniously at the curb, NY style. Cat Hickland recognized it & got it & was supposedly trying to get it to Agnes, who was still alive at the time. I thought it should be in some museum, but I sure don't know what one. Oh, yes, I checked & it was March 5th, 1979 AW first 90 minute show & death of John Randolph: GL Roger raped Holly: OLTL Karen Wolek took the stand. It was the next day that she broke down under cross & revealed her life as a prostitute. That was a big week for soaps.

ALL: The niche potential for streaming classic soaps
It's certainly true that online fans are most aware of other online fans & what they say or vote when they are self-selected & no one even knows what percentage of already existing fans they make up. Sure. To be successful there would have to be offline fans & totally new fans. 3 groups.

The others is what I see people clamoring for. But, I don't see people being phased at their having endings. No, I would fear people would be daunted by how many years existed. Common things fans talk about are DAYS when written by Bill Bell. Sunset Beach, Santa Barbara & PC to see a show beginning to end. Lots of fans say they want to see (or vote in polls) AW, EON, revisit GH 80s & 90s. Many say they want to see, like, the last 6 years of OLTL. Of course, I think you could market the first tenure of Malone/Gottlieb/Griffith's OLTL easily. Nuke, Otalia, all of Bianca would be niche marketed to gays.

I remember hearing that. The first time I heard it, or perhaps read it, I laughed out loud. Later I realized how destructive inaccurate information could be. But when I first heard it I thought it was so ludicrous that no one would believe it. Yeah, right. If only. And Phyllis Diller is Susan Lucci's mother, too!

Days of Our Lives: September 2023 Discussion Thread
Do we know if she has a gun? I agree that there was a moment when I thought she had them dead to rights but then nothing came of it. So, where are my Grammar Nerds? I can't be the only one who went up the wall when Kristen told Gwen that Dimitri must have went out! Gone out. Good grief! Was it the writer or the actor?!!

Correct me if I am wrong but I as I recall Granny didn't even have an exit. They just stopped mentioning her, right? And, doesn't that sit at Irna's doings? It was that close to the beginning, wasn't it? @Neil Johnson Good to be reminded of Lemay continuing to populate the Matthews family. Personally I think the sister soap & no room at CBS etc. myths that have been debunked were more egregious than overestimating the Gregorys, but I do see your point about that myth mostly because it's still sorta around.

I thought it was March 5th the first 90 minute episode. Anyway, he told them he would quit over the 90 minute show & he did.

Well, for the dupes, maybe you'll find some worthy soul to give them to! Not selling the original set, sure, I get that, completely. It's so weird. I can't find CARJACK.

ALL: The niche potential for streaming classic soaps
I bought about 80% of them. I watch them. And from a fan I've bought Doug & Julie's first wedding, the last 3 days of GL, Victoria Wyndham's anniversary, Roger raped Holly, ... $500 plus, huh? Geeze, have you thought of selling yours? Of course I didn't sell my copy of Anne Heche's first book either. That reminds me. There was more GL on YT than any other show until there was a purge. "Bandstand Mike" had full episodes for years & he sold them as hard drives. People believed it was a good deal because everyone knew he actually had all those full episodes. But, he was scamming people. So, beware. I can only imagine that they were below expectations, given that the project was shut down midstream. I thought that they went to a completion point & were going to decide whether to expand & do AW and EON next. Not so?

And I think Amazon being in the business of it, with Neighbours is a good sign, and I don't think they will stay in the business of it, if it doesn't work out. When Roger Newcomb curated DVDs for ATWT & GL how were those sales? It didn't break the bank to buy them. They were competitively priced with all manner of DVDs of that same time.

If you're talking about Pete, I'm sure of it. He was completely in thrall with his characters. And, he thoroughly enjoyed his reputation. He talks about not knowing as they were doing it, that they were doing anything special. Which is natural, common sense, etc. But you can tell he likes that people think highly of it. And who wouldn't?

Marketing by storyline sure would appeal, wouldn't it? However, it automatically requires much more in curating it & that is overhead.

If you ask me, nothing was as destructive, single item, as the 90 minute year. Just no excuse for it when they squandered different returns. JC yes, but also Nancy Frangione.

I also know very little of them & my opinion of Lipton as a writer is so low that I have zero motivation to learn more.

GL sure did! And the completely lost the Reverend & his sermons. Sure, that was why I specified the character changes. I mean Gloria Monty definitely reinvented GH & most of her changes were production paired with writing changes from Marland so unlike this discussion. But, Nixon at AW was characters & writing. I've always thought he meant the Gregory family. Lipton's error that Agnes fixed. I can't imagine who else it could be. Yes, the Corys became core & stayed. Perhaps the Frames could be considered core? IDK.
