Also, the show took time out of the production schedule to let people tell stories about Billy! Kudos to someone at Y&R who made that remarkable decision!! And, now, I've just been knocked over again with this, the tribute from Billy's Manager, Marnie Sparer.

Storylines and periods in a show that made you STOP watching
This! ⬆️⬆️⬆️ Personally, I am sorry about people quitting at the outset of Peapack. They had a big learning curve & they had to learn OJT all the way but they got so much better. And so many people came to see what they were doing because they were so excited by the possibilities of reinvention that were being broached. But, I also understand that comfort is an important part of the soap watching experience.

Agree about DAM vs BC. So, Stephen Schnetzer was considered & the FOOLS did not grab him?!!! Aii yii yi. And, just in general, I am loving your reset, not as much as I love my own, of course, but a close second! And, yes, Holly automagically adds a hot factor. Oh, yes, if only ... And, that that dear boy Matt Bomer had to do that! Similarly, that poor Scott Bailey had to do [cough] sock puppet! Whoever it was at P&G who hired John Conboy for GL at that point in its budgetary history, should be taken out & shot.

GENERAL HOSPITAL September 2023 Discussion Thread
Okay, I have a theory about who is doing this stuff to Anna & I'd like your thoughts. I'm not talking about the sniper. That's someone else. But everything else, I think it's Jake. And, I think he's doing it because he thinks he's avenging some wrong for Charlotte who he thinks he is in love with. And I think Charlotte has figured him out & was going to try to talk to him to stop. Besides that, good morning. Also @j swift Blair's idea about Marty marrying Lucy & freeing her of her alimony obligation, ... whaat? Make it make sense please!

Storylines and periods in a show that made you STOP watching
I don't know whose idea that danged island principality was but it hurt the show by spreading it over 2 locations. I did this meme that was "The Bennifer wedding reset the timeline to 2004, what are you going to reset in your favorite show?" So, in my version San Craptobel was gone & with it Bradley Cole & David Andrew McDonald. Then I got rid of the mob. Danny turned out to be a grandson of Mike Bauer. Anyway, I only posted to say this: CBS forced the clone story on the show.

Yes, I love that anecdote. BTW, that whole interview, not just part like this, is up here in this forum. I posted the link myself. And the whole interview is easily findable on my YouTube channel, also. I just cannot figure it out. What does "TL;DR:" stand for here? Timeline? Dead Reckoning? Oh, gee, I'll just post it again. Beverlee McKinsey's famous "City Lights" interview, the full show. Beverlee McKinsey's son, Scott McKinsey, Director at "Days of our Lives", says this is her most candid & best interview. I concur. A Canadian interview, we think of the host as the Canadian Dick Cavett. "Another World" was hugely popular in Canada. She makes one wholly unintentional error. She says she is the first to have star billing on a US soap. No, actually there were 4 before her. But, she is the last. No one has been granted it since she was. Didn't they have trouble with clearances? Nope, they don't seem in trouble that way!

They won Best Show 3 consecutive years so we probably have to consider that time a "groove".

Storylines and periods in a show that made you STOP watching
Interesting topic. For many shows I was a lastgasper, a bitterender, among those AW, GL, AMC. Now, ATWT, from around the time Goutman kicked Martha to the curb I dropped in & out, watched the finale. And, DAYS, well, I'd been a daily viewer for so long but at some point I started taking breaks from the show & coming back later. By intent I missed a lot of the mask business. I wasn't watching for John's near execution or Sami's near execution. I had so many friends who left & never looked back with OG demonic possession. Also many friends lost at AW once they kiiled Frankie so gruesome, etc.

So, that makes 2 instances where people made up tributes! Kelly Monaco & Peter Bergman. This imposter popularity these days just burns me up. I swear besides posting people's personal contact info online, this is the next to worst thing, I believe! Disgusting.

When Naomi Judd died, it was on the 3rd day after that her girls were ready to tell the true tale. Bless her heart for her brilliant, brave statement but she may not have been able to live with anything but the truth. It is a hard thing that it falls to the family to say but it's better coming from the family! It should be easy now to ignore some absolute morons. If he trends today it will be 4 days in a row. I keep a list of soap RIP & 2021 had 19, 2022 had 29 & so far 2023 has had 20. I think we have what I call RIP Fatigue. And Billy is almost an Everyman, he is so like the boy next door that I think he has become a touchstone for us. May light perpetual shine upon him & give him peace & may hordes of heavenly hosts guide him to his new resting place & may he be met there with long missed friends & family & beloved pets. I have a favorite book about grief & learning how to live with it that I wholeheartedly recommend to people . _ tried out about 6 & this is the only one I like! https://www.amazon.com/s?k=kindle+book+grief+day+by+day&crid=2Q781UZZHAPR2&sprefix=kindle+book+grief+day+by+day+%2Caps%2C127&ref=nb_sb_noss

ALL: The niche potential for streaming classic soaps
There ya go! That's the attitude! Clearly B&B and GH and Y&R all have experiments going on. Neighbours is a major streaming event. Dark Shadows, Dallas, Dynasty, Falcon Crest, Melrose Place, Beverly Hills 90210, all streaming with people clamoring for KNOTS! Plus The Doctors which ran aground sorta, from trouble.

ALL: The niche potential for streaming classic soaps
Personally I do not think it has been tried well enough, although right now the streaming of classic soaps that are underway, maybe they are doing it right. I will be anxious to learn any numbers if they're ever available.

Okay I have this note: The 1981 Writer's strike was only 3 months long. From Apr 11 to Jul 12, 1981 & during that time period GH lost 2 mil viewers. Does anyone have such a note about '88?

Thank you. I saw that you had posted it after I hit enter. Boy, was this ever a time I wanted to be wrong. I will tell you that I am bipolar & there was a time in my life, a pretty long time, when this could have been my outcome. If anyone wants to talk about their feelings about this & can't think of anyone they want to talk to, I am a good listener as well as talker & I would be proud to be there for any of you. God bless, Billy's mom.

And so many things have been debunked & I am glad we live in the time when there is interest in this & scholarship & research, etc. If you've been in the position of trying to correct something, it is simply amazing how difficult it is! I've been publishing a blog on "star billing" for several years now when I set out to correct the supposed fact - that was totally accepted as truth - that Beverlee McKinsey got the first star billing in daytime. So, when I set about to correct it on her IMDb page I was armed for bear, if you will, but still it took me 4 passes to get them to accept my corrections! And "The Creation of Another World" is still a document I point both AW & ATWT fans to with all that it debunks! At Wikipedia I was all set to be a part of their editing team & their very specific procedures made it so difficult to get anything done that I deemed it not worthy of my time & thanked them & quit.

CBS Daytime
Ever wonder if there's some "whoo-whoo" in what happens when? I mean, soap-wise, with an eye to the calendar, look what we have on the imminent horizon: AMC end 9-23-2011 Love of Life begin 9-24-1951 Best of Everything end 9-25-1970 Morning Star begin 9-27-1965 Never Too Young begin 9-27-1965 The Nurses begin 9-27-1965 Paradise Bay begin 9-27-1965 The Brighter Day end 9-28-1962 Our Five Daughters end 9-28-1962 Bright Promise begin 9-29-1969 For Richer, For Poorer end 9-29-1978

There always have been & always will be people who will "prove" mathematically or statistically that thus-and-so is true, is an empirical imperative, etc. One of my oldest & best friends online proved back in the 90s statistically that the broadcast network structure would continue to decline until it failed completely, speaking of both primetime & daytime. And I always said that of course that was true unless something happened to change that, like soaps reinventing themselves, or like some tech marvel that created economy where expense had been previously, etc. And, to me, that is why we talk about what is going on when & try to examine results. Meanwhile they are very happy with their charts & graphs, so there's no reason for our chatter to bother them.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
Good Morning! Today is Monday, September 18, 2023 & that makes it the 14 year Endiversary of Guiding Light which broadcast its last show on September 18, 2009, concluding a 57 year run on CBS that began on June 30, 1952. My God, do i ever miss GL! Honk if you miss GL! Well, that was supposed to be an emoji of a goose. So, last night I was talking to a close friend who worked at GL at the end & we were reminiscing & talking about how much we miss GL & also how much we miss the whole NY soap scene. We of course got on the subject of CBS & P&G & ATWT & GL & even NBC at AW. We both said how both Paul Rauch & Mickey, MADD Mary Alice Dwyer Dobbin, no matter how much there might be to say critical of them, one thing was clear which was that they were ferocious in their defense, and offense, of their shows! He also made me aware of a CBS Daytime VP named Richard Mensing who was a champion of GL ... until the time he was gone & at that point all of those champions of GL were gone. And the show was left with non-fans Barbara Bloom & Les Moonves at CBS. No one at P&G. And, strictly on their own, EW at GL & Goutman at ATWT with no one to either do battle for them or even stand up for them in moral support! It was a sorry state of affairs that things had devolved to. Anyway, here's to many great years at GL & legions of excellent fans! So, this CBS guy Richard Mensing who was a champion of GL was gone as of 2002. That's the same year that Paul Rauch left. And, MADD left in 2005. Conboy was unfortunately the EP 2002-2004 with his special friend Ellen Weston the HW who could not even be properly interviewed as a writer because she wasn't one, 2003-2004. Not for the first time I appreciate Ellen Wheeler, Jill Lorie Hurst, David Kreizman, Donna Swajeski, Chris Dunn & Lucky Gold for everything they did from 2004 to the bitter end. And, yes, I understand that they made mistakes. EVERYONE makes mistakes. It's called being human. Oh, and I appreciate Carolyn Culliton also as she was the co-HW to Weston, surely that was a thankless job!

CBS Daytime
Last night a friend & I were talking about GL at the end. He worked at GL at the end. We were talking about how much we miss it & then we segued into people in power. Paul Rache & no matter what you say he was a feirce defender of the show. MADD same thing & then when she retired they did away with her position so Goutman & Wheeler had no one to fight battles for them. And the he said when Richard Mensing was out there was no one left who was pro-GL. And I said who the heck is Richard Mensing & he told me. I'd never heard of him. Maybe you had. Richard Mensing was the Vice President of Daytime Programming at CBS from 2003 to 2008. He worked alongside Barbara Bloom and was ABC Daytime's Creative Director from 1999 to 2002 . Michelle Newman replaced him in May 2008.
