  1. What the Daytime TV mag says is this: Without realizing it Scott and Kathy began to fall in love. Scott and Laurie separated and eventually divorced. But Kathy was liberated and didn't want children. Scott felt she would change her mind. On the day he proposed, Kathy told Scott she had an abortion the day before. (My bold for emphasis.) As it stands right now AW 1st abortion, illegal, Pat Matthews, no abortion anywhere was legal AMC an illegal abortion Erica May 1971 SFT a legal abortion, Kathy Phillips traveled from Henderson to NYC, unknown month 1972
  2. Excellent! And, also, thank you for putting your time on this!
  3. Okay, I can tell you where I got it from. I put the information we had uncovered on the SFT discussion thread here & asked if anyone could date it & a poster answered very confidently that they were sure it was 1970-71. Later I put together all of our information & posted in that thread, which can be seen here. But, if it is 1971 instead of 1970 then I am happy to accept that change & glad of new information. Before I brought it to this SON thread & asked for a date I had the Daytime TV mag info & had communicated with Courtney Sherman Simon who was the first to mention 1971 & who was positively sure that her character had had an abortion & that it was before AMC's but of course she had no tangible evidence to prove what she remembered. I suppose we can search the SFT discussion thread to find out what poster told me 1970-1971 if you think we need to. And, it all began with a poster in my forum who said he remembered Kathy having an abortion before AMC's Erica did. And, the reason we were discussing it was because of the Y&R primetime special's allegation that Ashley had the first. It may have been you who posted in reply to my query. And in fact, you can see here that what we stated was 1971, month unknown, and the other day I was going off the top of my head & just grabbed the first date that was in my head, which I got from a valued SFT poster here on SON. I don't think we have an argument if we can agree on SFT Kathy's abortion in some unknown month in 1971. If somehow someone here can narrow that down to a month, all the better. I know that I cannot come up with a month either from Lance Jackson or from Courtney Sherman Simon or from the dedicated Daytime TV mag. Courtney Sherman Simon even emailed the writer but he did not reply. And, that post of mine that is quoted here is behind the times as Jason47 did an explanation of how & why the 20 million figure may very well have been accurate & that can be found in this thread & also in the "Ratings of" thread that applies to it.
  4. I do. I think that when the ad agencies sold their bill of goods that one demo was better than others, which I continue to believe was a crock, then the artificiality of the situation was not good for anyone.
  5. Every time I see this topic, I flinch. Or I shudder. Take your pick. As an adult struggling in the 80s, with Ron & Nancy in the White House & their political ideas only really being good for very wealthy people & meanwhile something like a modern day plague was killing more & more friends who were also young adults, ... it would require another term, certainly not nostalgia or the good ole days. But, it does explain why escapism in soaps became a much sought after criteria.
  6. So, it goes like this: AW 1st abortion, illegal, Pat Matthews, no abortion anywhere was legal SFT 1st legal abortion, Kathy Phillips traveled from Hendersons to NYC, Sept. 1970 AMC 2nd illegal abortion Erica May 1971
  7. So, Erica's abortion was an illegal one? Now I wonder whether SFT/Kathy or AMC/Erica was first. Thanks for this info. Honestly as many different ways & from as many different sources I've heard or read about Erica's abortion it has never been said that it was not a Roe v Wade abortion! And many times it specified that it was.
  8. Well, meddling became micromanaging! The more power shifted away from the creators having first the level of an auteur to things being decided by committee, the more the business side looked at soaps the way they looked at products. What they needed was to be looked at as pieces of art by creative types.
  9. Do any of you recall that MSM interview that came out right before he he began? Although there is at least some evidence of the networks meddling in the affairs of, then, soap writers! That was so surreal. I felt like the emperor was naked in front of me.
  10. Both Julias being played by brilliant actresses & wonder if he couldn't have done much better by each of them. And, Hunt Block is an excellent caliber, but without boundaries he becomes aloof, or defensive
  11. There are always things that are offered to actors that they love, that fans hate! it come from their having to play the same thing over & over for years. When someone shows up with something "different" the very likely are not going to be thinking about character integrity! I know at first he did have a co-HW. Did that change? Recently someone was talking about writing for Sheffer & winning the Emmy as part of the ATWT team & how joyful that experience was. And she said that since he came from outside soaps he didn't know what he couldn't do so he did a lot of things that no one else would have. I think of his solution for having 3 lead actresses all pregnant at the same time. Held them hostage in a spa & they were enveloped in enormous fluffy white terry robes! I sorta thought it was brilliant. Another friend was a writer on that team & whenever he speaks about "Hogie" it is with the same kind of joy, admiration, etc. One thing we do know is that he ran a Happy Writers' Room & took care of his people. All that said, he would never be my first choice to write relationships between men & women.
  12. Great, you've got me laughing. Of course, there used to be more than abundant Lauras. Denise Alexander played a Susan, a Lesley & a Mary, oh and a Marisa. Cady McClain played a Dixie, a Rosanna & a Jennifer. At least B&B's Steffy is familial. Oh, so is DAYS. Stephanie is named for her father, Stephen.
  13. Not just stans though, the most extreme ones there are. And you can't say Manny without conjuring up the GL fanbase wars!! Not used to shows repeating names unless it is familial naming of children & grandchildren. Also shows used to avoid names being used on other shows to at least a degree. Now there's only 4 shows but there's 2 Finns, 2 Stephies, 2 Sonnys, there were 2 Victors but now only one, there were 2 Dougs, ...
  14. Haven't found out about the music yet. Waiting to hear back from the Music Guy. Shout out to the Director! Denise Van Cleave! 2-23 screengrabs
  15. Okay, then maybe it's not too much yet where I am in re-watching. That André, he sure was a stinker. And of course she had her special fans trained so that if a single solitary day went by without her on their screens that they would immediately call in & scream about how she was necessary for the future of the show. Even when she was working with a 4 guarantee, oh my god, that would leave a 5th day in the week when she might not be on! Don't get me started. So later Crystal Chappell played *another* person also named Maggie?
  16. Oh, yes! Loved the scenes with Sam & Liz also Sam with Danny. Great family stuff. My main interest is if they are testing Sonny & Ava as a couple. But Isolationist Sonny is pretty interesting, especially since he is doing exactly what both Michael & Dante said they were afraid he's about to do & don't want it for him!! Talk about the sons knowing the father. Very well done first love scene! I Also want to find out what the song was. Shout out to the Director Denise Van Cleave! Also kudos to the actresses, Jacqueline Grace Lopez & Kate Mansi! Well, Tracy, see, she's a scene saver! So, even though I want Finn & Gregory & Violet gone gone gone gone, despite myself, I enjoyed the scene because of Tracy. However, I call UNFAIR. Because I don't want to like them. YTJagger? What does YT stand for? I love Anna being the Commish. I was so tired of seeing Sad Anna. And, I love this Heather, too. What I wonder is what the deal is with "Stone" being dead? And, also, personally,I believe this was one of the scripts that we heard about that the new writers "tweaked". I just don't see this as being totally D&C.
  17. I'm convinced that Adam Huss doesn't have a contract because they went into a huddle & seriously tried to decide whether to invest in the Cassadines or not. This lines up with Avery saying they told her they were restructuring the show. If they still haven't decided, maybe PM's opinion will matter. Right now they can technically still stall. Nik is in jail & Spencer is thought to be dead. I would estimate that PM would want to have the Cassadines, so maybe for once the timing is right. Now yesterday Ava announced the sale of Spoon Island. Ruh-roh. Is this a sign of an ultimate decision? And, as we say farewell to Dan & Chris, here they are ...
  18. Well, Kristina & Allyson finally made love & they're about to get caught so that at least will be totally soapy. In the past Joss & Sexy Dexy had so much sex, almost constantly, that at that time you'd have to say that was certainly soapy. Sprina was more of a slow burn, as was Kraze. The last time they had a sex montage I guess, was Valentine's Day & was Millow & Jex & ... hmm surely there was a 3rd couple. Ned & Olivia never do. Sam & Dante rarely do. Sasha & Cody are in the Friend Zone. We used to be able to count on Vanna. Oh, I think the third couple was Sonny & Nina. Maybe. If so it was their last time. Speaking of Sonny, it sure looks like they're chem testing with Ava!!
  19. Well, in Mar. '92 when Roman saves Bo from Torres & Bo's knocked out from the tranq gun. we see Roman peeling a latex mask off while Mrs. H is driving the getaway car, so you think as early as that, maybe? Because of the latex "Mission Impossible" TV show rip-off?
  20. GH Fri. 2-23 I've got Allison Reames as Director, at least that is information I received. Off of Hulu, I cannot see closing credits. Can anyone confirm?
  21. Funny but I don't really think of the show crossing that line until Reilly. Specifically as of "Buried Alive". Before that to you is it the adventures, the villains, Eugene & Calliope? or what? Not the supercouples.
