  1. That actor playing Jamal reminds me a lot of soul singer Victor Allen. Was Tad on the show at this time? I am suprised at his absence in a drug storyline. I am also suprised that there was no flashback of Francesca James as Kelly singing the song she wrote called "Colored Lights."
  2. Doris Belack played Beth Bryson, R. N. She and her husband operated a private clinic. Nancy followed Sharkey there. Sharkey was suspected of impregnating Emily Michaels where she was being treated. Sharkey had been an orderly there. He left there to work for Dr. and Mrs. Bryson. Dr. Bryson specialized in a certain type of plastic surgery. He would secretly give criminals and others wanting new identies new faces. In the clinic was Ira Gideon (played by Randy Phillips) who was there trying to get a new facial identity. There was an assistant, older doctor there also named Dr. Arnold Featherstone (Humphrey Davis), who I don't think was aware of the criminal nature of his surgeries. Nancy was discovered. Beth wanted to kill her, but Kenneth (her husband, played by James Hawthorne) felt sorry for Nancy. Beth resented the attraction that she felt Kenneth had for Nancy. Nancy was eventually presumed dead. Elizabeth Parrish (who later played Buffy Revere) played a psysic who tried to help Mike. Dr. Bryson decided to give Nancy a new face. Beth wanted to make it a horrible looking or kill Nancy. Dr. Bryson was the father of Valerie Bryson (Leah Ayres). Beth was her step-mother. Valerie later moved in with Nancy and Mike. She was attracted to (at different times) Nancy's nephew Kelly, Jefferson Brown, and others. I think that she was a lovely, wonderful actress on the show. When Mike finally found Nancy, he also located Ira, who had been wanted by Mike's office for some time. James Hawthorne, who played Kenneth, later played Kenneth English (brother of Phoebe and father of Brooke) on All My Children for a brief time. Sharkey was played by Norman Snow for a brief period, but he was replaced by Christopher Goutman. Sorry, James Hawthorne played PHILIP English on All My Children, not Kenneth English.
  3. I liked Will, but I hated his storyline. He seduced his step-sister and impreganted her. I thought that his first scenes had been in Llanfair, but I guess that I was wrong.
  4. After Ed Kemmer was written off The Edge of Night, he joined the cast of As the World Turns. Also, Alan Nourse had played Roy Cunningham on The Edge of Night. He too was killed off, and he began on As the World Turns as Otto Martin, father of Dick. Ed Kemmer was also on The Secret Storm too. I did not watch the show, but I imagine that it was in between The Edge of Night and As the World Turns. He was later on Somerset in the premiere cast. After being killed off that show, he played briefly on All My Children as someone's doctor (either Anne Tyler or Erica Brent). When As the World Turns expanded to an hour, he re-joined that show. On As the World Turns, he was usually paired with Lisa. When he first joined the show, he worked for the District Attorney. He was later in private practice. He, of course, was an attorney.
  5. I enjoyed Will, Jen, and Lindsey. I never cared for the father.
  6. Yes, he had already appeared on The Guiding Light. Other soap opera stars in the movie were: Patty Duke (The Brighter Day, Kitty Foyle) Ron Hale (Love Is a Many Splendored Thing, Ryan's Hope) Martin Balsom (The Greatest Gift) Salome Johns (Love Is a Many Splendored Thing) Al Pacino (Search for Tomorrow) Catherine Burns (Love of Life, One Life to Live) Peter Turgeon (Dark Shadows) Daniel Keys (Dark Shadows, Where the Heart Is, Texas) Dange Crain (As the World Turns) Dick Smith, who worked on make-up for Dark Shadows, was the make-up man.
  7. Roy, the ex-husband of Sandy, was the fourth husband of Penny (if you count the marriage to Jeff that was annulled). She never took Jimmy (her step-son and also the step-son of Bob) to Europe. She may have considered and rejected this. (I imagine that she did.) Penny left. We did not know that Rosemary Prinz had left. But, the second Penny, Phoebe Dorn, appeared much later, so we knew that Rosemary Prinz was gone (plus, we had read it in a magazine). I am considering Roy as husband #4 for Penny because, when Rosemary Prinz appeared as a guest on Art Linkletter's House Party once, she referred to her character as "Penny Hughes Baker Hughes Baker Wade McGuire."
  8. The author of the article about Ed Kemmer and Fran Sharon (Marilyn T. Ross) is the same writer of the novelist who wrote the Dark Shadows series of novels.
  9. Could you post the Fran Sharon-Ed Kemmer article in its entirety?
  10. That, of course, was the late Nancy Marchand playing the mother in the clip above. Her daughter, Katie Sparer, later played Katie, the waitress at McKay's on All My Children. Matthew Cowles, who later joined the cast of All My Children as Billy Clyde Tuggle, was in the film also.
  11. Gloria Hoye appeared in The Brighter Day, As the World Turns, The Secret Storm, Love Is a Many Splendored Thing, Somerset, Another World, and Guiding Light. She presently is currently a landscape designer. She provides greenery for office and public buildings.
  12. Our family watched the show, and we had no idea or inkling that Ms. Prinz was not returning.
  13. In the clip, I thought that Billy Dee Williams was extremely good in the role of Dr. Jim Frazier. Who is playing Dr. Joe Werner? Is it the late actor and writer Ed Zimmerman?
  14. I think that he was an excellent replacement.
  15. I have a tape of her appearence. She played an attorney named Judith Howard who had given up smoking and was trying to convince Steve to do the same. This was right after Steve had lost his son, so he was feeling presure which he thought tobacco helped. Ms. Howard said that she was suprised that a doctor, of all people, did not recognize the problems that he was causing to himself by smoking.
  16. That picture of Richard Shoberg with Karen Morris Gowdy could have been taken on a promotional trip for ABC. I know that Ms. Gowdy traveled around the country with Richard van Vleet of All My Children and Frances Fisher of The Edge of Night. They came to New Orleans. Also, Richard Shoberg came to Mississippi for an mall interview.
  17. Agnes Nixon was NOT the only writer for All My Children. It was said that she sold the two soap operas (All My Children and One Life to Live) to ABC because One Life to Live needed some newer sets and they could not afford these.
  18. Around the time of the stop smoking storyline, there were other guest stars. Some of them were singer/actress Judy Collins, Brooke Shields, and astrologer Aileen Cunningham.
  19. Eileen Pollock, who was a writer for The Brighter Day, has passed away. She later wrote for the primetime serial Dynasty and was a co-creator of another primetime serial The Colbys.
  20. Eileen Pollock, who was a co-headwriter of Love of Life, has died. She had suffered a stroke and died from complications.
  21. She and her husband began writing the primetime serial Dynasty during its second season.
  22. Eileen Pollock, who was a co-writer of The Doctors when that show had its highest ratings, has died at the age of 86. The cause of death was complications from a stroke.
  23. I think that Myrtil should have been the mother of Gretel AND that Laura on General Hospital should have been been the daughter of Gretel. Myrtil's neice was Ceara, and the same actress played both Laura and Ceara (Genie Ann Frances). That Laura and Ceara looked so similar could have been explaned genetically had this story been written at the time.
  24. Emily Squires, who wrote both Sesame Street and Guiding Light, has died.
  25. Emily Squires, who wrote both Sesame Street and The Secret Storm, has died.
