  1. American Home Products sold both The Secret Storm and Love of Life to the network at the same time. The network seemed to pair The Secret Storm and Love Is a Many Splendored Things together (using some of the same production workers) and Love of Life and Where the Heart Is. After the shows' cancellations, American Home Products repurchased the rights to both shows. Of all the cancelled shows, The Secret Storm came the closest to actually being syndicated. (I know that some stations had agreed to air the syndicated version which never materialized.) The company then tried to sell the show to NBC, but the network decided instead to air How to Survive a Marriage. During part of the 1980s, NBC had rights to both Love of Life and The Secret Storm. I think that the company still owns the shows.
  2. Harry Johnson was played by Fred J. Scollay from April 8, 1970 until 1972. There may be some confusion because Harry used the name Ike Harding. Harry, of course, was the father of Tony Cooper and the man that Laura felt that she loved. The scene in which Sam Lucas figured out that Harry and Ike may be the same person is a favorite memory I have of this show.
  3. According to the IMDb, two other actresses who appeared on the show were Terryann Crawford (of Dark Shadows) and Lisby Larsen.
  4. During the time that he was a football player, Mario St. Peebles played a fellow athlete named Doc Gilmore.
  5. I am so sorry about the misinformation that I posted. Julie was indeed the biological daughter of Mark Dalton. I know that she was the niece of both Erica and Silver, but I got confused before I posted.
  6. Actor Roger Hill, who played professional athlete Alec Lowndes on One Life to Live, has passed away at the age of 65. His death came on this past Thursday. Before joining the cast, he appeared in the movie The Warriors. He and co-star Ellen Holly were a romantic couple in real life at one time in the past. He was mostly a theatre actor. During the last years, he was a part-time librarian and poet. He is survivied by one son, film editor Chris Hill.
  7. I believe that Mark Hamill and Anne Wyndham played siblings on the serial General Hospital. She was also in the original cast of ABC's Barney Miller, while he had been in the cast of ABC's The Texas Wheelers a bit earlier.
  8. Donna had played a real party girl earlier on The Secret Storm named Rocket. She said that the crew would call her "Sister Rocket" while she was on Love Is a Many Splendored Thing.
  9. Will Cooney and Julie Rand Chandler were actually related, not just related through marriage. Will was the nephew of Palmer Courtlandt. Julie was the biological daughter of Ross Chandler and Elizabeth Carlisle. Since Ross was the biological son of Palmer, Julie was Palmer's granddaughter. So, Julie's father and Will were first cousins, making them first cousins one removed.
  10. Concerning the friendship of Donna and Jackson, I don't know exactly how the friendship began. There was also an episode in which, for some reason, Travis and Donna were somewhere outside Pine Valley. Donna decided that she was ready to return to Pine Valley, and Travis was also leaving. He offered her a ride in his car, and the car broke down. Donna and Travis felt something, and Donna told him that things like this did not happen to her, only to other women such as Erica. After the return to town, I don't think that anything else was mentioned. Actress Candice Early said that everytime the show got a new producer that the producer would say that they were anxious to use Ms. Early and were determined to give her some good storylines. I think that the above was an attempt to do that.
  11. I am not sure about who Larry Bryggman played. It must have been during the early months of the show. I also do not know who played Terry Andrews. Is that who was murdered by Jock? She may have never been seen.
  12. Rex was Jo Ann's brother-in-law.
  13. I am not sure why actress Pat Dixon (as Caroline) was described as a "glorified day player" above.
  14. He was on Search for Tomorrow as Rex Twinning, As the World Turns as John Hughes, The Edge of Night as Mike Karr #2, and All My Children (role unknown).
  15. Thank you so much for posting the converstation between Rachal and Sheila. I had heard about it, but I never had seen it. I understand that the show invited Ellen Holly to appear on that episode, but that she had declined to do so. There is one other episode which I wish I could see and never have. In this, Sheila (being played by Vallerie Pettiford) was adititioning for a musical play. She and John Lopreio (Cordero) sing a song together. I liked Valerie Pettiford as Sheila, but my favorite was Stephanie B. Williams. Definately because she was prettier than Ms. Pettiford. R. J. was blackmailing Sheila at one time. I wonder if the show considered killing off R. J. and placing Sheila under arrest? Surely it did. To me, the perfect was to have brought back Sheila was to have her return with a baby four or five years after she moved to London. This child would be Hank's, although she would deny it. Hank and Shelia could have conceived the child before she announced that she wanted a divorce and that she was moving to London to be with her brother Ben. I thought that the exit of Troy was terrible. He was written off with such little fanfare.
  16. Yes, I did. I remember that one actor played Paul, and then William Mooney suddenly began playing him. When the character was introduced on the show, he had been a Korean prisoner-of-war. There were references to his life during those years, as though it could have been used in the story in later years. However, after a few months, it was nearly forgotten that he had been in Korea and no use of that story was used again. He may have mentioned it when Philip Brent was shipped to Viet Nam.
  17. It was asked why Ken Rabat did not remain in his role as Paul Martin. I think he caught a case of early replacement-itus, which many of the characters on the shows of Agnes Nixon had. Others characters who had their creators replaced quickly have been: Dr. Larry Woleck (One Life to Live) Cathy Craig (One Life to Live) Donna Beck Dixie Chandler Isabel Alden (Loving) Kate Martin

  19. The article above mentions an actress from All My Children named Doreen Stanzel. I do not remember her. Was she a friend of Tara's? I watched the show at the time, but I do not remember Tara as having a friend. I do remember that Phoebe kept trying to pin Tara down to the announcement of her wedding to Chuck, but Tara did not want to bother with details (because she was still having romantic feelings for Phil). When asked to provide a photograph for the announcement, she told Phoebe that she would be using her high school yearbook photograph, which Phoebe felt was a terrible decision. Does anyone know about this actress and character?
  20. The character of Sydney Scott, played by Deborah Steinberg Solomon, was a romantic interest for Lincoln Tyler after he and Amy Tyler divorced. She either owned The Boutique or worked at The Boutique. I was thinking that she was the owner (having bought it from Amy Tyler) and then Paul Martin bought it from her for Ann when they were married. Deborah Steinberg had appeared on Love of Life, The Nurses (maybe when it was airing on primetime) and had had two runs on As the World Turns. Her character on that show, Amanda Holmes, was a prominent character, especially the first time that she was on the show. The actress and the character left the show following Amanda's murder trial. She returned but had little to do except living in and working in the Wade Bookstore. She was a good friend of Dr. Neal Wade (the original owner) and his wife Penny. Neal died and left the store to his widow, but Amanda ran the store after Neal had returned to a medical practice at Memorial Hospital. The actress and Rosemary Prinz, I understand, were good friends. Ms. Prinz kept her decision to exit All My Children after six months just about the time that Ms. Steinberg made the decision to exit As the World Turns. Ms. Prinz told her that she was leaving and encouraged her to join the show.
  21. Actress Joan Fontaine, who was nominated for an Emmy award for her work on Ryan's Hope as show business agent Paige Williams, died this weekend in California.
  22. I think that the policewoman was Giordiano. Lisa Peluso (in her first role on One Life to Live) played her sister named Billie.
  23. Dody Goodman (Martha Shumway) had appeared on Search for Tomorrow before she was on this show, and she was on One Life to Life afterward. Victor Kiliam was later beaten to death. Samantha Harper has become a published author.
  24. The article on Justin McDonough above mentioned the oldest daughter of Agnes Nixon. I know that Cathy Chicos (former writer of All My Children) is the daughter of Agnes Nixon. Is she the oldest daughter?
  25. Gail Kobe, who was an actress featured in an article above and was also a producer (Return to Peyton Place, The Guiding Light, Texas, The Edge of Night) died about two weeks ago.
