As The World Turns Discussion Thread
I liked Phoebe Dorin, but NO ONE ELSE seemed to like her. I realized that no performer actually was the character, and the character sometimes had to change. Phoebe Dorin and Rosemary Prinz later were on How to Survive a Marriage together (Peter Brandon was also on the show.). I image that they laughed about this, but I have no way of knowing how they treated one another.

All My Children Tribute Thread
Margo Flax was introduced onto the story first. When Erica was seperated from Jeff, Erica moved to New York to begin a modeling career for which she had been craving. Jason Maxwell was the head of the agency, and he began arranging for Erica, an young up-and-coming model, to get a roommate. He told Erica that Margo was an older model with much experience, and that maybe she would accept the idea in order to save money, since the jobs were becoming more scarce for her career. Margo was a bitter model who was coming to the end of her modeling career. She did not want to have anything to do with Erica, the young newcomer who was coming to New York from a small town. Jason finally persuaded her to share the apartment with Erica. He knew that Margo had a daughter who attended always attended an expensive private school and that Margo was in need of money. What Erica did not know was that Margo claimed that Jason was the father of Claudette, the daughter. Claudette was begining to see a man from a very exclusive family, and she was anxious for Margo to impress the man's family. Jason and Erica began a love affair. He cared nothing for her, having had many affairs with these new models just moving to New York. Erica was falling in love with Jason (although she was married to Dr. Jeff Martin). Claudette became engaged to Spencer Montgomery (who was never seen - only mentioned onscreen. Margo hated Erica, especially since she was aware of the affair with Jason. However, she had to pay for the expensive wedding for Claudette. Margo had been getting support over the years for Claudette from both Jason and her own ex-husband, Harry Flax. Eventually, Erica's affair with Jason became known both to Mona and Jeff. Jason was murdered. Suspects were Erica, Jeff, Margo, and Harry. The show made it appear that Erica had killed Jason. However, Jeff was arrested for the crime. On the witness stand, it was revealed that Mona Kane had killed Jason as she was trying to get him to leave Erica alone. Mona had forgotten about this and was not sent to prison. Margo's career was down to nothing after Jason's death. He had been responsible for the few jobs that she had been getting because it helped him not have to pay for Claudette's expenses. Margo went to Pine Valley. She met Paul Martin, who loved Ann Tyler Davis. Ann had purchased The Boutique. Erica worked there. Ann hired Margo as a saleslady. She and Paul were eventually married. Claudette, who, up until this time, had also been an off-screen character, came to Pine Valley with the annoucement that she and Spencer Montgomery were divorcing. She lived with Margo and Paul, who were married by this time, but seemed to be making a play for Paul. Margo was aware of the Claudette's flirtations with Paul, but she was especially jealous of Ann. The actress who played Margo (Eileen Letchworth) set history when Margo decided to have a facelift without telling anyone. The actress also had a facelift in real life, and the effects of the facelift were all seen onscreen. Claudette became addicted to drugs. Kitty, who had bought The Boutique (or her new husband Lincoln Tyler had bought it for her) was dismayed when her ex-husband Hal Shea (using the name Hal Short) came to Pine Valley. No one knew about the marriage that Hal and Kitty had once had. He began blackmailing her to help him smuggle drugs into Pine Valley. The drug shipments were disguised as soap shipments coming to The Boutique. Claudette and Hal became friends. Claudette was at The Chateau one night and took a drug overdose. Dr. Frank Grant was there to help her. She was sent away to a prison hospital. This happened on the episode in which All My Children had a new version of the theme song. Paulette Breen was the actress who played Claudette up until this time. Ms. Breen seemed to have a great career ahead of her, but she made a few episodic roles as a guest star (on Happy Days) and a few movies, the seemed to disappear. Several years later, Claudette returned to Pine Valley. Susan Plantt Winston was now playing the role. The show had expanded to a full hour. Claudette was a huge flirt. She worked at either The Chateau with Eddie Dorance. Eddie was the manager of Kelly Cole's career (Kelly and Kitty were twin sisters.) who also managed The Chateu. Also working there were Ellen Tucker Shepherd, Freddie Porcello, and Claudette. Eddie also was keeping Kelly on drugs in order to control her completely. Claudette had a one-night stand with Phil Brent (who was in between marriages to Erica and Tara.) The actress playing Claudette was expecting a baby in real life. Eventually, Eddie was murdered. Suspects were Ellen, Freddie, Claudette, Kelly, Phoebe, Brooke (who had been raped by Eddie), and Langley. Kelly was arrested for the crime, and Lincoln was her attorney. Eventually, it was revealed that Claudette was the killer. Claudette thought that Lincoln would be able to get an aquital for Kelly. When Lincoln lost the case, she was so guilty that she drove out of town, had a bad car accident, and confessed on the hospital emergency room table. She then died. Francesca James won the Emmy award for best supporting actress for her role of Kelly, and Warren Burton won the Emmy for his portrayal of Eddie. (Burton was the third actor in the role.) It was never said that Claudette's husband Spencer was related to Travis and Jack. I thought that the connection would have been good, but it was never made.

I had never heard that Ms. Nixon wanted both Lillian Hayman and Ellen Holly on the show. I did know that the role of Minnie was offered to Lillian Hayman, but she had declined. Resembling All My Children was not a flaw. I, too, thought that it was odd that the role of Curtis kept being recast and that the original Curtis returned to the show later. I liked the show a lot when Ralph Ellis was writing it. I especially enjoyed Luke Perry. I did think that the role that Matthew Cowles (Eban Japes) was too similar to Billy Clyde Tuggle - or, at least, his interpretation of the role.

I don't think so, but, if she were, she could have been recast also.

Also, when Susan Lucci moved to Hollywood (when her son was born), she returned saying that Erica had been a waitress at a restaurant because all the film roles that she got were for topless roles. This sister of Opal's would have been her co-worker in California. The sister would claim to Erica that she had in her possession of old photographs some very unflattering pictures of Erica and would try to blackmail her. The pictures, though, would not exist.

If Dorothy Lymn would not be available to play the role (and she said that she was available and would have played Opal at the time that Jill Larsen stepped into the role but no one from the show asked her to do so), then I still think that a sister for Opal could be a good idea. This sister could be the snooty, upity sister who was never like Opal. She tried to adjust to Ray, but she withdrew all communication when Opal bore a bi-racial son. So, she would have been somewhat familiar with Tad and Jenny. This sister could have claim to have owned a very up-scale nightclub in New Jersey which was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. As it turned out, her co-owned it with her husband, and it was nothing but a glorified strip joint. (This would be revealed later.) Crystal could have worked there once for a night, but she could not adjust to the life of an unclothed woman. This woman could have a Jenny-like daughter who was unaware of the realities of her parents' buisness. For casting this role, I would suggest: Ronnie Claire Edwards, Ann Wedgeworth, or Vicki Lawrence.

I remember both Bobo Lewis and Martha Greenhouse from that storyline, or at least from the show. That she played Hannah was told to my by someone else. I thought that one of them played a prison matron. Or, they could have possibly played the same role, with one succeeding the other. Just because Denny Albee left the show did not necessitate the break-up. A new actor could have replaced Mr. Albee.

The third Nicole (Lisa Sloan) was my favorite. I also liked Jim, Damian, and, especially, Johnny Gentry. I did not care for Gavin or Kelly as much. I also liked Camilla Deveraux, Valerie Bryson, and Spencer Varney. Steve Gutherie and Deborah are my very favorites. They should have never been broken up. (same with Laurie and Vic, and Liz and Steve Prentiss.)

Edge of Night (EON) (No spoilers please)
Jim was a theatrical director. He had a flirtation with Buffy Revere after Johnny Gentry left. I think that she may have dumped Johnny, but he made a play for one of the female characters. I can't remember right now who it was; maybe it was Poppy. I do NOT know who the lady was sitting in the airplane with the veil pulled over her face. I also don't remember what connection Jim Diedrickson had with the Bryson family. I do know that Valerie Bryson had fallen in love with Jefferson Brown. I suspect that the person Nancy it asking about was really the late Jefferson Brown (who assumed the idenity of Schylar Whitney). David Allen Brooks played Jim Diedrickson. He is one of the performers from The Edge of Night I still see occasionally in commercials. Elizabeth Parrish played Buffy Revere. Craig Augestine played Johnny Gentry. Lela Ivey played Mitzi Martin. All three of them (as well as Kenneth and Beth Bryson and Matt Sharkey) were without contracts to the show. Albert Owens played Carlo. Carlo used a different last name, but he was revealed to be Carlo Crown. Mr. Owens had a contract with the show, but he was only on it for a short period.

That's Valerie Bryson and Jim Dedrickson. I had forgotten that Valerie was a photographer. That studio was originally opened as a photography studio by Carlo Crown, who was a former acquaintance/love of Martine DuVal. Is that the same place that Gavin had his dance studio?
