  1. Friends stayed in the Top 10 its entire run. Friends and ER still resulted in time slot hits: Will & Grace one season in the Top 10, Leap of Faith one season in the Top 10 and then done, The Apprentice one season in the Top 10. Oddly enough, ER falls out of the Top 10 once Friends is over.
  2. Y&R 1980: 1 hour expansion. Introductions of Victor, the Williams family, the Abbott family. 1982: H. Wesley Kenney took over as EP from John Conboy. The Brooks and Foster families are phased out, and the Abbott family is expanded. 1982-1983: The season Y&R became CBS's #1 daytime drama. 1984: The transition from the Brooks/Foster era to the Abbott/Newman era is complete and Y&R became Y&R as we know it today. 1986: Cricket became a full time character and proceeded to eat the show for the remainder of the decade. Ed Scott took over as EP from H. Wesley Kenney. Cast purge that continues to the end of 1987. 1988-1989: The season Y&R overtook General Hospital as the overall #1 daytime drama. 1998: Bill Bell stepped down as HW and Kay Alden took over. 2006: John Abbott is killed off and Y&R has not been the same since. B&B 1988: Introduction of Sally Spectra. 1989-1991: Bill Bell built a business and family around Sally. The Logan family would be phased out and replaced by the Spectra gang. 1992: The first Y&R crossover when Sheila turned up alive in Los Angeles. 1993: Bill Bell stepped down as HW and Bradley took over. All 1987: Iran Contra hearings, the first big pre-emption I remember. 1988: Writer's strike, which may have caused alot of storylines to go off track. 1994-1995: The season of OJ. 2020: Covid hiatus.
  3. @soapfan770 I remember the same four primetime episodes you mentioned. @Soapsuds The 1996 primetime episode is where Victor got shot and it was the lead-in to the Daytime Emmys.
  4. Richard Burgi, Robert Newman, Christian LeBlanc were all born in 1958 but holy difference in the looks.
  5. MTS makes it seem like Victor and Nikki were an accident pairing that became unexpectedly popular, and I laugh at how she puts supercouple in air quotes. Also from the way MTS is talking its as though Bill Bell saw a connection between EB/MTS before EB/MTS themselves even did.
  6. The only episodes I've enjoyed so far this decade were EB's 40th anniversary and the 12000th episode.
  7. @titan1978 Yes, Y&R jumped on the action/adventure bandwagon during the H. Wesley Kenney years, but that element did not suit Y&R and it pretty much disappeared when Ed Scott took over as EP.
  8. In terms of impact to the genre 1970s: Y&R (casting, lighting, music, taking classic soap elements to a whole other level) In terms of pop culture 1980s: General Hospital (Luke/Laura, starting the supercouple and action/adventure trends), All My Children (Susan Lucci), Days (for taking the supercouple and action/adventure trends to a whole other level) 1990s: Days (Reilly's sci-fi era)
  9. @Khan Oh yeah, I forgot about MAB's love of former sitcom actors.
  10. From what I've seen/read, when Bill Bell added the Williams family, the children's birth order was Todd (away in the seminary), Steve (working as a reporter), Paul (working at a garage), Patty (high school student).
  11. That is stunt casting totally up MAB's alley.
  12. Amelia Heinle has been employed for almost 17 years. She's another one we're stuck with until Y&R ends. To think some soap names thrown around in 2005 for Victoria were Sarah Brown and Christie Clark.
  13. A common soap element is a mother favoring one son over the other. That element also has a biblical allusion (Rebecca/Jacob/Esau). Which soap storylines of mothers favoring one son over the other are the favorites of this board? Bill Bell used this element several times, the two big ones being Vanessa favoring Lance over Lucas and Stephanie favoring Ridge over Thorne. To a lesser extent there was Cora favoring Matt over Victor, as Cora kept Matt and placed Victor in an orphanage. I don't think Liz and her relationships with Snapper and Greg apply here, and I don't count Mary and Paul as Mary's relationships with her other sons Todd and Steve were not really explored.
  14. I can't believe Joshua Morrow has been employed for nearly 28 years. Bill Bell really tried to make him happen in his first three years but it didn't work. That's why we're stuck w/ JM until Y&R ends.
  15. It was rumored in 2007 that Y&R was going to recast Nick w/ Galen Gering if JM's contract negotiations fell through, as Galen had been spotted at CBS Television City around that time. Also the Victor/Adam 2007 storyline was to accommodate EB filming a movie. I remember a scene where Jack mentioned something along the lines of "Victor's gone to parts unknown, making a movie or whatever".
  16. Super early to announce this I know, but March Madness break is Thursday March 17 and Friday March 18. Things are so bad I'm counting down already.
  17. I interpret legacy heroine as an adult female born on-screen. For current Y&R that means Victoria (1982), Chloe (1990), Lily (1995), Abby (2000).
  18. Inconsistent SORASing really messed up subsequent generations and the natural evolutions of the feuds.
  19. Everyone is killing me here 🤣
  20. @Paul Raven Sadly, I can see that scenario playing out.
  21. Could Days eventually dig into the vaults and upload the Bill Bell years on their YT channel? It would be interesting to see actors that were later on Y&R/B&B and spot any Bill Bell elements from Y&R/B&B on Days.
  22. Jealous scheming vixen sister of the kind-hearted heroine and they fight over a guy. Not that much different from Lorie Brooks.
  23. We're 14 months away from the 50th anniversary and there's still nothing exciting happening to lead up to it. At least after the lull in the first half of 1997, the second half of that year built up to an excellent 25th anniversary in 1998.
  24. Remember that Jackson family biopic from the 1990s? I don't think much of Janet's story was featured in it, that biopic seemed to focus more on the brothers.
