  1. Once upon a time Y&R would have been front and center. It's clear that CBS wants to use BTG to promote a refresh for the other soaps.
  2. It might be representative of the realism that gay Black professional men choose White partners.
  3. The special showed that this show was not just thrown together and was carefully planned. All the attention to detail is very wise because Black communities are very steeped in history and cultural symbols.
  4. Officially just a week away from the premiere and that is so exciting. I'm about to watch the special after that Kingdom Day parade wraps up.
  5. That make sense. It is dramatic but in a very sleek way.
  6. It might be some other music, but in the Instagram stories there is some music playing when the cast is applauding at the end of the screening and that might be the theme song. It sounds very much in the TV theme genre.
  7. That is my thinking too. I can see Hayley being shellshocked when she catches them together and ending up on the other side of adultery.
  8. What I was caling crap is the extremist misinterpretation of it. not DEI itself.
  9. Can we not get into DEI crap? Giving the far right more attention is not what we should be doing.
  10. Phyllis' old stalker ways were showing when she left Billy all those voicemails.
  11. In Los Angeles General Hospital is on at 2 pm so it will be up against Beyond The Gates, but I don't think it will necessarily be a competition because at this point a new soap is going to help the others just by boosting the genre. Those actors from the other shows showing enthusiasm know that the publicity of "soap operas are still alive" is good for the genre as a whole. When you're in a genre that has declined you can't afford to compete because competition isn't really a factor like it was 30-40 years ago.
  12. That "When are you going to learn your place?!" could have come off very wrong, but considering it was coming from Jill is was pretty much just par for the course. Jill is disrespectful to everybody she doesn't like.
  13. Of course it makes sense to protect the copyright, but in a way they should be glad that anyone even wants to impersonate the show. It's surprising anyone wanted to do that in the first place. They could have just had the clips taken down and not released this corny letter.
  14. A decent amount of recurring characters is a great idea. That gives the opportunity for the writers to create a variety of different interactions and story potential.
  15. That's exactly what it is. That low level troll is mad he isn't making it and it especially burns him up to see a Black woman have her ideas brought to screen. YouTube is full of Black woman hating Black men.
  16. It looks like the typical soap dynamic of the wife being more sympathetic and fragile while the mistress is more bold and unrepentant has somewhat been flipped. Brooke would sometimes fall into feeling sorry for herself and excusing her behavior because of "destiny" and I can see vibes of Hayley going in that direction. With Dani pushing Chelsea's career maybe a little too hard it's probable that she will lean more towards Bill if he is the parent putting less pressure on her.
  17. Looked a the trailer again and noticed that Bill's daughter is against him too. The Duprees are set to be a strong united front. In the punching scene I also noticed that Anita is just standing there as Dani punches Hayley and doesn't seem to be trying to intervene.
  18. My guess is the conflict will be over Dani being reckless and too vengeful. Clearly she's going to be off the rails at the start.
  19. I mentioned Anna Maria Horsford ages ago. If not her then I think Janet Hubert would work. Or maybe a real wild card like Bern Nadette Stanis. Someone who is known by audiences from another show is ideal.
  20. It's not a huge indicator but when you type in Beyond The Gates in the Facebook search bar it has "hot right now" under it so I think the trailer is working.
  21. "And now you have to deal with the inconvenient consequences" is such a good clap back line. That's the kind of writing that you need to have a good soap opera. It will be interesting to see if Hayley is going to be a fragile character up against a powerful family or if she's just passive aggressive with her "woe as me" attitude sort of like Lindsay Rappaport.
  22. Checked out a few episodes this week out of boredom. Colleen Zenk is just amazing and owned the scenes she did. The writers gave her lots of room to work and she delivered.
  23. Might be reading to much into that post, but it seems to mean that Vernon plays but the rules most of the time but will break them when he has to and Anita breaks them more often and cares less for them period.
  24. Macho Man has been co-opted too. This crowd is so clueless and doesn't listen to anything closely.
  25. On the central coast of California the soap lineup was always half hour soap first, AMC, OLTL, GH. For CBS it was Y&R, B&B, ATWT and GL. The Los Angeles and Santa Barbara markets will follow the New York City lineup.
