  1. When put very plainly it wouldn't make sense, but you could say that Ashley would prefer someone that can pay his own way without sharing expenses and has more than a working class experience. Andre might want someone more stable and level headed. Of course the issue is that the characters don't match despite the plausibility of a connection making s
  2. It's evident that there was reset of Derek and Ashley's storyline. The attempt to build tension over Derek not resting enough after being injured on the job was not working but the tension over moving in together is. The characters are still not thrilling, but today they at least were worth paying attention to. The writers do want Ashdre and they are easing toward it again.
  3. Robinson is less imposing than Johnson was and that makes the character seem completely different. If anything he came off as someone who could have played Doug.
  4. I'm sticking to my theory that June is Hayley's sister (maybe a cousin since this show showcases cousins). Hayley really needs someone else to interact with because her being isolated to just Bill is not working. Eva only seems to have a backbone when it comes to Kat. She had no problem rubbing it in her face that they are sisters. Sharon hanging up on Anita was a good little nudge for that storyline. At least one of them having a name is promising to them actually showing up.
  5. Not all friends are alike though and there should be a counterbalance in some friendships on soaps. Dani has already been all over the place enough and doesn't need an unstable friend.
  6. I really don't like Joey. Please get that disaster off the screen. Leslie going off like that finally let everyone see exactly who she is. She said she has more surprises up her sleeve which reinforces my thoughts that she knows something about Martin.
  7. Which is still a form of manipulation. Granted it won't work because Ted isn't interested in Leslie at all no matter how much she tries to make him look like a horrible person. When you consider the situation with Hayley it does make sense why Anita would take that approach.
  8. In fiction there has become an expectation by some that every Black character should represent excellence and perfection. It's not like we are talking about a Tyler Perry show where none of the characters are happy and everyone hates each other with a passion.
  9. Leslie is an extreme liar and manipulator. I'm not sure what her point was in trying to convince Nicole she wasn't trying to hurt her. As much as Eva did help orchestrate the entire plot I feel like there was too much piling on. Eva never said she wanted to be a Dupree so Anita was extremely out of line for that comment.
  10. Good numbers in outperforming that show that was in the time slot previously. If it wasn't opposite GH it might have done even better.
  11. The dialogue is so clunky and doesn't flow naturally. It's like it is written without thought of how it actually sounds when delivered by the actors.
  12. It is what it is and I'll try not to evaluate him too harshly without seeing a few episodes, but I'm not sure I'll like this.
  13. I'm convinced that June is Hayley's sister based on how they have a similar way of speaking and that might mean the casting was intentional. Not Leslie walking right up in Nicole's house. Nicole shouldn't have left the door open period, but when you have a person who hates you running around you really should be more careful.
  14. I think Vernon has more dignity and morals than Eric Forrester lol.
  15. That would be a good plot point to add more tension to the situation.
  16. It is clear the secret involves some sort of roadside incident so it could have been a police stop. And tge Duprees support a police foundation could one of the clues that Martin's secret involves the police.
  17. Lol I thought the same thing.
  18. I'm hoping that it doesn't happen. If the show keeps putting out good performance and story it will be hard to shut it out. Daphnee, Trisha, Ambyr and Colby are earning nominations without question.
  19. There are the makings of good Emmy reels in these past couple of episodes, but the industry is still going to favor even the most mediocre stories and performances on the older soaps. And with the pressure from the government over race I can see the academy shutting out Beyond The Gates to avoid criticism from the administration and the far right media.
  20. Daphnee's performance very much reminded me of Anna Holbrook's on Another World when Sharlene was dealing with John and Felicia's affair. Angry but well controlled and believable. A good start for an Emmy reel. If there is one thing an evil Black mother is going to do, it is lock you out the house. Eva shouldn't have even bothered to go home. Leslie calling Martin "Mr. President" was interesting. How much exactly does she know about the family and has someone higher up sent her to cause trouble? Anita's speech to Leslie was dignified like Geraldine Whitney (EON) or Kim Hughes (ATWT) would have gone off on somebody.
  21. One thing I thought about is if Hayley will have a reaction to Bill threatening to kidnap and sell a baby. That's another level of viciousness and with her just having thought she was pregnant it might make her feel some type of way.
  22. Leslie having the nerve to show up at the Dupree House was pure insanity. Bill being revealed to be more ruthless than anyone would have thought was a good development. I have to imagine that will change Dani's view of wanting him back. The whole reveal was well done and Trisha Mann-Grant owned those scenes. That was most definitely material for an Emmy submission reel.
  23. I think Vanessa not being there was a matter of choices in who to have there without overloading the interactions. Nicole is going to have to interact with her kids, parents, sister and of course have it out with Ted. Any interaction with Vanessa will have to be after the whole mess goes down.
  24. Leslie couldn't get her Clair Huxtable evening dress for prom, but she finally got it now.
  25. One of the finer details of the episode I noticed is Leslie and Eva's dresses are representative of what a lower income person who had a windfall would buy for an event and consider to be glamorous. I worked in Nordstrom and there was a lot of this sort of aesthetic on the racks in the evening wear section. Definitely not cheap, but not couture either.
