DAYS: Doug & Julie Remember Tom & Alice! | promo (February 16, 2024)
That lone pic of the Horton house set. I forget if this was posted on the board [probably; if it was, I apologize for repeating as I do not mean to troll!], but I do believe that set was also used in, of all things, an ad for Dial soap back in the day! (Days had an affiliation with Screen Gems in its '60s heyday, if I recall reading, which was probably a big deal as a lot of shows fell under that banner. So maybe sets were a part of that?) I just found this pretty funky!

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
So I was bingeing old Hollywood Graveyard episodes on YouTube, when a visit to Santa Barbara Cemetery in one showed the final resting spot of Christopher Bernau, who naturally played Alan Spaulding. Here is that video. For a cemetery, it seems peaceful, and right near the ocean [if you watch from the start!]. I marked the video at Bernau's segment, though.

Agreed. Polling is, as far as I'm concerned, an anachronism in the age of cell phones. Only a certain core actually participates. Polls have fallen down on the job from 2016 on, and it continues. And, I'm not all that certain that abortion was not on the ballot at all. Not THE issue this time, true, but Pilip is against it, and Dobbs has been a HUGE boon for Dems since women were stripped of bodily autonomy. Again, tonight the Dem candidate over performed. As has been happening for at least two to three election cycles now... Some voters interviewed even said they voted for Suozzi because REPUBLICANS killed their own bill. So some ARE paying attention. It is a long way to November. But the momentum for Dems is a hell of a lot more positive than the media wishes.

First, a Dem candidate won a Pennsylvania state race: And now, Dem Thomas Suozzi has flipped NY-03, George Santos' old seat!

ALL: Are You Ready for the Minute-Long Soap?
If one counts old '80s commercials, a micro soap (i.e. about 30 seconds to a minute long) has already happened! Taster's Choice coffee had commercials/"episodes" with this couple surrounding coffee. Ditto Country Crock and another couple (although all we saw of them was their hands as they buttered stuff in between their drama!). Yes, I'm old.

Funny the talk is still about abortion here [and in elections] because, in watching The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on YouTube last night, Stephen mentioned that, despite so many polls that are screaming about Dump beating Biden, a Quinnipiac poll was released showing Biden ahead of Dump by a considerable margin - with women. I'm not dumb or arrogant enough to believe that Dump cannot have a chance to win again; the American electorate at large is that stupid. But, as has been said here again and again, women are still clearly angry at having their rights taken away. As much as the media is pushing for a horse race in the name of the Almighty Dollar and trying to sell the border and immigration as an albatross for Biden and Democrats, well...abortion affects the "every day life" of women voters. Immigrants trying to cross the border for better lives, not so much. Still, the media falls for "THE POLLS!" Every. Single. Time. This despite the fact that polls massively overstated GOP wins for the past two or three election cycles and with Democrats continuing to over perform. It is mere wish-fulfillment fantasy for the media, seemingly wanting that Dump drama to raise ratings and the financial bottom line. Because - God forbid - the news be about informing people and not trying to create news. (Which is why news divisions under the "Entertainment" banner at the networks have forever tainted what used to be a dignified profession.)

Some good news: A Democrat has won a special election for a state legislature seat and flipped it from red to blue - in FLORIDA.

This is insane, yet not at ALL surprising. The White House Pharmacy was basically a drug dispensary - more like a PEZ candy dispenser - during the Dump Administration. https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/trump-white-house-pharmacy-prescription-drugs-1234953535/ If it's pay walled, Stephen Colbert gives some details. I marked the start of that topic, so the video should play at that segment:

While not unexpected, Bill Hayes' passing hurts. My heart goes out to his wife, Susan, and the extended Days family as well as his real-life loved ones.

ALL: Recasts who seemed like a different character.
ATWT was one of my Gram's (RIP) favorite soaps. So, sometimes I'd read some ATWT in the soap mags and watch casually so she could chat with me about it. (I was more an ABC [AMC] girl turned NBC watcher [Days/Santa Barbara] in my teens/20s - college].) I mention this because I'm surprised to not see Melanie Smith vs. Kelley Menighan (formerly-Hensley) as Emily on here. Smith's version seemed like the intense sexpot, impulsive type while Menighan just seemed neurotic, losing the intensity. Not to mention the actresses did not even resemble each other whatsoever.

The 2023 edition of TCM Remembers is now up. Soaps-wise, it includes Sharon Farrell and Shirley Ann Field. (Also includes some expected big names, i.e. Matthew Perry, André Braugher, and Tina Turner, to name just a few more.) Set to a cover of the Tom Petty song, "Learning To Fly"; the artist covering it is Christina Perri:

A car has apparently crashed into an SUV in President Biden's motorcade tonight. From what I read, Secret Service drew their guns on said car, but I don't know much else. But it seems no one was hurt and the investigation is ongoing.

DAYS: Holiday Gatherings | promo (December 15, 2023)
Neil shouldn't count, either. When Sarah was a teen, she discovered Maggie's affair with Neil and, thus, hated him. So much so, teenage Sarah - just before leaving in 1990 - set it up so Maggie would see her in bed with an unconscious Neil. (If I recall, he was drunk or drugged?) (And apparently Sarah found a portal in Tennessee, where she lived with sister Melissa, that kept her from aging in almost 30 years. Lucky her!) Either way, she was furious on behalf of her father, Mickey. So, the crap when she came back when Maggie gave her Neil's stethoscope was ridiculous when you look at actual history. Neil even once tried to use that connection with Sarah, and she shut him down fast. (Not to mention, Neil himself was a retcon. Evan Whyland [then played by Lane Davies pre-Santa Barbara ] was the actual sperm donor. The writers pulled the Neil angle out of their ass during the Maggie/Neil affair.)

If you can, do so. Frank Pembleton was so dynamic. Still get chills when I remember the character's stroke. And while the series had seen some decline in quality in later seasons, one exception was "Subway" in Season 6, with an equally-great performance by Vincent D'Onofrio, as a guy who either fell or was pushed (though it seemed the latter) into a subway track and certain to die once his body was freed, as Pembleton stayed with him 'til the end. That episode got a Peabody Award and a making-of documentary. Just sad it is not streaming anywhere. The only way to rewatch is buying the series DVD set.
