ARTICLE: ‘Beyond the Gates’ Splashes In Debut, ‘The Young and the Restless’ & ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ Hit Season Highs Among Key Demos
No, it's not mitigating all the churn but a portion of it. Let's keep GH as an example, a show I've probably seen less than an hour of in 10 years. If posters here are correct and it's a top 20 show on Hulu for (the sake of argument) say 40 weeks a year, it's much more valuable than middling farelike Class of '09, Unprisoned or Dollface, which are much more expensive, and as you point out, they have to spend money on promoting. Obviously big-ticket shows like Shogun, The Bear and Paradise drive most subs but they need to pad the catalogue with something. And soaps are cheap. And even cheaper than they were 20 years ago, which is unheard of in the industry for scripted.

I agree with most of your post but here is my quibble. The same people watching every day is nothing to scoff at. Combating churn is a major priority for streamers. The fact that a full year of GH costs less than 2 episodes of Shogun is absolutely helping it stay in production.

I think 2 weeks ago they would be very happy with an 80% hold of W18-49 from B&B. For comparison, Passions held only 35% of its Days lead in (1.1 vs 3.1 -thanks Jason47) during it debut week. W25-54 was even better at 83% I'm a bit surprised though that the actual show only did 32/30% better in the demos than infomercials for the show last week.

ARTICLE: ‘Beyond the Gates’ Preview Special Performs Well For CBS, Network’s Veteran Soaps See Substantial Gains
It's first week for will most likely be it's best week (on linear) for a few months, if not ever. Given that the infomercials for BTG got within 0.02 of GH in W18-49/25-54 it would be shocking if the first week doesn't beat it. Given the promotion, it wouldn't be a shock if week 1 beats B&B too.

Didn't make it to them before tapping out but the ages on this show are a mess. Why not just make the junior politico Tamara Tunie & Deacon from Amen's son instead of grandson if they wanted him to be the father of teenagers. Also, if the producers really like the Hayley actress, why not just re-write it to make her a friend of the wife instead of a friend of her daughter? I get that ages on soaps get wonky after a while because of aging up kids for storyline reasons, but why start it so messy? It makes it confusing for people trying to learn who the 20+ new characters are. Even Sunset Beach & Passions got this right at their launch.

I rewound to make sure I was getting it right that Hayley was supposed to be Dani's daughter's best friend. Why on earth did they cast someone the same age as Dani for that role? This was very similar to the Passions premier in pacing, which was surprising for a show launching in 2025.

ALL: Popular Actors playing Unpopular Characters
I don't think her MP character was a favorite but she was probably the most successful one introduced in the last 2 seasons - baring maybe Lexi after they revamped her? Low bar for sure, albeit. Her Just Shoot Me character didn't work, but that show was on its last legs, while 24 did rebound creatively after a horrible season 6. Fair enough if you didn't like Quinn, but she was successful on B&B.

This might be a cheat because it's primetime, but Rena Sofer as Jack Bauer's sister-in-law on season 6 of 24 was despised by fans. Not that Sofer deserves any blame for the failure. That season also wasted powerhouses Regina King and Powers Boothe.

In a fit of rage, she'll do the unthinkable and kidnap Eric's beloved stapler. Hiding due to the statewide manhunt that was called, she makes her way to the Spencer mansion. Luna stops her from destroying the stapler and in return is given a full pardon for her lessor crimes, freeing her to scheme with Electra's stalker.

Nah, gotta give the writers a pass on this one. A crazy person would think contradictory thoughts. And for real, Luna probably did have a good life. Lived in California; wasn't poor; had a flaky but generally nice mom. It's not uncommon for someone that age, even one that's not a nutcase, to play the "poor me" card in hindsight when they begin interacting solely with the wealthy Finnegans and ultra rich Forresters and Spencers.
