Another World Discussion Thread
Apparently, though, he WAS very good at writing that story about Iris bugging Eliot's hotel room -- the one that got written up in the NY Times or Washington Post as being so similar to the then-ongoing Watergate scandal. So, it seems like Lemay COULD write good, suspenseful plots when he wanted to, but that's when he WANTED to.

Days of Our Lives: December 2021 Discussion Thread
Too bad they killed off Nick. "Nan" might have been worth a few (unintentional) laughs. Like @carolineg said, though, Shawn isn't exactly Mr. Excitement himself, so perhaps the two deserve each other. Same goes for Austin and Carrie.

SOD: The 10 Greatest Soap Villans of All Time
I'm okay with Billy Clyde Tuggle, Roger Thorpe and Carl Hutchins being included on the list. Would I give them the same rankings, though? Probably not. Sheila Carter, Mitch Laurence and James Stenbeck are also okay on this list, even if all three were severely damaged by too many return visits and too much two-dimensional writing. But I'd never include Stefano DiMera, Helena Cassadine or Kristen DiMera on any "Greatest Villains" lists, because those three are far too arch for my taste. (I like my villains to possess SOME nuance and vulnerability.) And Cesar Faison is just plain boring to me.

Days of Our Lives: December 2021 Discussion Thread
Same. DAYS has been such a mess for too long. Ken Corday believes he's honoring his parents' legacy with this crap, but he isn't. Not by a longshot. If I were taking it over as HW and/or EP, I'd do the most radical thing ever: I'd phase out the Hortons (what's left of them, anyway), the Bradys, the DiMeras and everyone else; and I'd rebuild the show, "from the ground up," with new characters and families, in the hopes of getting back to family-centered, character-driven drama that isn't bogged down by decades of simply rotten storytelling.

For Christ's sake, Michael, would you DROP. THE DAMN. ACCENT.

Which is why the Sven Peterson storyline fascinates me to this day. Lemay wasn't known for writing melodrama, but when he did, it seemed to be very effective with the audience.

I think the only type of story that Harding Lemay wasn't capable of writing was a YOUNG love story. Lemay himself once said that he found it difficult to write for younger actors, because they didn't have the life experience that their older colleagues had to draw on (although, he did cite Ray Liotta (ex-Joey) as a notable exception).

I think PS would blow her entire stack at the thought. So, of course, I think they should do it.

Days of Our Lives: December 2021 Discussion Thread
I really and truly believe the (soap) world would be better off if he WEREN'T cast on another show, but if he just HAD to be on THIS show, then I say bring him on as a recast for a reformed Jeremy Horton.

ALL: Couples you are surprised never reconciled for good
ICAM. Kevin and Laura just don't work for me either.

SOD: The 10 Greatest Soap Villans of All Time
Alma Rudder (AW) was one of the most frightening antagonists I've ever seen on a soap.

Actors who looked like members of their soap families (and those that didn't)

All I can say is, I'm not a fan of BD's, not because he isn't hunky, but because he bores me to tears.

ALL: Couples you are surprised never reconciled for good
It's just as well they didn't reconcile. Thanks to Tony Geary and Bob Guza, I never want to see that happen. Laura (and Genie) deserves better.

Ah, yes, the Eighties. Rampant homophobia mixed with conspicuous consumption and excess. Good times.

Characters you were surprised to see again
He probably SHOULDN'T have come back either. Every time he did come back, Stefano just became that much more ridiculous.

No, they shouldn't. In fact, no one should cast or recast Billy Miller in anything ever again.

In hindsight, what moment would have been the perfect ending to your soap (before things got awful)?
I would have ended DAYS much, much sooner. Like, say, around 1991? Same goes for AMC.

No offense to anyone, but that is one of the gayest things I've ever seen. And I've watched "RuPaul's Drag Race."

Days of Our Lives: December 2021 Discussion Thread
Agree. Many writers like to throw these kinds of curveballs at us, don't they? Even if Lucas being Sami's abductor is supposed to be a Twist You Never Saw Coming, we should be able to go back, look at what led us to that revelation, and see how it was all logical and inevitable. But I don't see that here. I just see another sorry-ass HW tryna surprise the audience without giving logic a second thought. God, I hate these damn shows. And the Chloe/Brady/Philip mess should end with Philip dead (or 'dead'), Chloe unable to remember what happened, Brady taking the rap, and Kate being revealed as the surprise murderer (or 'murderer,' since it's very possible either Victor or Vivian, or Victor AND Vivian, could sneak Philip off somewhere to heal from his wounds and get psychological help). Did his fans send Ken Corday a new set of golf clubs or something?
