GH: October 2025 Discussion Thread
God knows I am so happy to see Erika Slezak back on daytime, but her storyline is just so pointless. Even if Ronnie were Monica's long-lost sibling, what's the point of introducing her now, when it would've been so much better to do it when LC was still alive and able to work? Frankly, I would've much rather seen her come on as Laura's adoptive mother, Barbara Vining.

It does have that "showroom demo" feel to it, doesn't it, lol?

The Pilot Thread
In order for "Sunset Boulevard" to have worked as a weekly series, it would've needed to be reinvented as an out-and-out half-hour comedy: the zany misadventures of a washed-up movie star still awaiting her comeback, her fawning valet and ex-husband who writes all her fan mail and the cynical, struggling screenwriter who takes up residence in her guest cottage above the garage when he runs afoul of loan sharks and creditors (with the gigolo aspect downplayed severely).

I still want Jason to (honor Monica's memory and) at least become a paramedic.

I guess I still have PTSD from Angela "Shop the Soaps" Shapiro's "synergy" strategy, lol.

Frankly, I'm not sure HOW I feel about BTG now existing in the same universe as the other CBSD soaps, lol.

The Pilot Thread
The thought had crossed my mind as well. But the cinematography (for lack of a better word) isn't at all what you'd expect in a Billy Wilder picture. Turning "Some Like It Hot" into a series is like turning "Casablanca" into a series (which the industry has tried to do, on more than one occasion, lol): once the story in the movie has been told, what's left to tell?

All My Children Tribute Thread
Me, too, lol. I don't recall liking much of anything that occurred during Jean Dadario Burke's tenure as EP. Then again, I don't recall liking much of anything that occurred on AMC after 1993, lol.

I wonder why Morgan Fairchild never made an appearance (as far as I know) on KL. She certainly made her presence known and felt on all the other Lorimar-produced soaps, lol. It's always such a treat to see these ladies still together and being active. Loni Anderson's recent passing (which they talk about toward the beginning of the episode) is a grave reminder that that generation of lovely actresses will not be around that much longer.

Y&R: October 2025 Discussion Thread
It's been said before, but I think it bears repeating: most younger viewers don't necessarily watch soaps (or didn't, in years past) for the teens and young adults. It's nice that they're there, if only because so much of storytelling is built upon generational conflicts. At the end of the day, however, younger viewers tune in, because they like the older characters more, and they use them as models for how they'll live their own lives as they grow older.

The Lechowicks had Val go crazy for one reason and one reason only: so that they could delay Gary and Val's reunion just that much longer (with their getting remarried on the 300th episode also on the agenda). Now, far be it from me not to want to tease out a romantic reunion for as long as possible, but there definitely were better, more logical ways of doing it than giving "poor Val" a "brain virus," lol.

Another Life
Same here. It's just so fascinating to me how AL really seemed to come together (for the most part, minus some obvious missteps) after a turbulent early period. It makes you wonder just how much farther the show could've gone had CBN not given up on it.

ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
It's funny how Sherlock Holmes has inspired various writers over the years to write "spinoff" stories involving Watson, Moriarty and (I think) even Inspector Lestrade. I mean, who's next? Does Mrs. Hudson get her own series of stories as well, lol?

Falcon Crest
TBH, I'd have to agree with TV Guide, or whoever printed that article: the Gustav Riebmann arc was pretty far-fetched. On the other hand, it probably looks like kid's stuff when you compare it to the Thirteen, lol.

ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
I still hate how William Russ was dismissed from Y&R (as the original Tucker) for Stephen Nichols. I think he would've done so much more with that role than either Nichols or Trevor St. John could.

Looking back...Primetime Ratings from the 80's
I think that might be because the first five seasons tend to be in the same vein as "Taxi". Characters are more layered and lend themselves more to pathos. By contrast, the latter seasons are more farcical, with characters being flattened out and reduced to one or two, easily identifiable traits that lend themselves better to gags. Of course, there will always be that contingent of fans who prefer the latter seasons for the simple fact that they find Diane to be the most annoying creature alive, lol.

Same here. She was part of that amazing team who elevated Y&R's already stellar scripts and made the show look cinematic and classy.

ARTICLE: Michael Damian To Perform New Single ‘Let Me Into Your Heart’ On ‘The Young And The Restless’
Well, I've been saying that our current administration (and the majority of this country) want us all to return to the '80's. Michael Damian and his new single are just another step in that direction.
