That's a good point. They shoot 8 shows a week and it probably makes more financial sense to have the same actors come in all week and keep the same sets standing. It makes for an extremely boring and repetitive show but ya know $$$.

@Khan and @Antoyne you both make solid points. On the topic of Chloe, why is she still on this show?

That I will literally never understand. They keep forcing these characters on us when the ratings don't translate to them being THAT big of a draw. The same thing happened with AMC in the heydays of Kendall and Zach and Greenlee and Ryan. Their fans were extremely vocal but they didn't move the needle so I never understood it.

Has any couple on daytime been AS frontburner as Sonny and Carly? It's been 25 years of them constantly in A stories. If you told someone the name of the show was Corinthos they'd believe you. Couples far more popular than the two of them have gotten a break or been written off but not these two. They're just onscreen, 5 days a week, no matter how little story there is to tell with them.

Best and Worst Daytime Wigs
Did we ever get the story behind this? It was so jarring. This poor beautiful girl. I feel for any black actress on daytime honestly. I wonder if Days and GH have black hairstylists (or at least hairstylists who know how to treat a variety of hair textures) since they have the largest AA casts on daytime. Here's what Victoria Rowell had to say about hairstylists at Y&R.

Brad really did work his way through the entire cast. Ashley, Traci, Lauren, Nikki, Victoria, Jill, Diane, Olivia, Sharon...by the time he died the character was kind of exhausted. I think if they hadn't botched the revelations about his past/childhood perhaps he could have lasted longer.

Maybe they'll re-do that entire disgusting opening at some point.

Didn't they remarry for about a year a decade ago? It's a shame they didn't do more with that (or with Nikki remarrying Jack) other than having Adam gaslight Ashley. At this point Victor and Nikki are so old they'd look ridiculous getting divorced again. Just keep those co-dependent fools together imo.

It really seems like they've spent the better part of 30 years trying to make Ashley work. I know she's a successful part of the Abbott family but she doesn't ever seem to get an A-story that's actually about her. She's had all these love interests and the only one that's stuck as some great love for her is Victor. The rest were sort of duds.

Soap Budgets
It's so strange to think that these actors, on TV everyday, seen by millions...are making less than my nobody ass.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
Alan was definitely the worse of his soap opera ilk, the selfish multimillionaire business mogul with a string of ex-wives, a la Adam Chandler, Victor Newman, Victor Kiriakis etc. I always felt like they inserted him into plots because they needed a fall guy, his motivations rarely made sense to me (and were rarely explained frankly, "control" I guess?). He was always just the heavy in someone else's story, he didn't feel like he had any sort of inner life. They also paired him with all the "bad girls" that came on the scene (Annie, Olivia, Carmen), even if it felt inorganic and didn't make sense.

Thank you! One more lol how about Miguel? When did he last appear? Thinking about it I'm surprised they didn't make Raul related to John or Miguel. I mean, it's nice that they didn't make all the Latin men related but it seems like that would have been a good way to introduce him, it would tie into the class struggles that were part of his character if he were say Miguel's nephew.

A couple of questions: when did Douglas last appear? Did he get an exit? Also did he have a function on the show being Victor's talk-to? I mean, did he have a job? Was he Victor's, for lack of a better word, manservant? When did Lynn last appear on the show? And it looks like in 91 they were hinting at Nina and John becoming a couple, does anyone know if that went anywhere? In looking at old episodes I'm starting to realize how strong and necessary Y&R's secondary/recurring characters were. And honestly looking back the show was just full of heavy hitters, watch any episode from the early 90s and all the characters leading story are incredibly important to the fabric of the show as a whole, I can't say the same for old episodes of other soaps I've watched.

This has to be some of the worst acting I've ever seen on this show. They're both just talking in weird cadences at each other.
