Y&R: Ed Scott Returns As Senior Producer
I think at 80 Scott probably looks as this as his last act and his full circle moment - finally being back at the show that is his "home" and that made his producing career. What's funny though is that when Bell stepped down, Scott did try to interfere more with the writing of the show (which he obviously couldn't do when Bell was healthy and micromanaging things), which led to tension between him and Kay Alden. When Scott and Alden's working relationship eventually deteriorated badly, Bell took Alden's side and Scott was shown the door the first time around. Mel's side of the story was that Jeanne was one of those people who "changed" when it was announced that she and Ed Scott were a pair, and their relationship was never the same again. Jeanne also did throw some shade at Ed in her interview with Michael Fairman when she was promoting her book - she basically said he went out of his way to light Mel better in scenes that Nikki and Katherine shared. She felt a certain way about that because she claimed to be Ed's biggest supporter as a producer. Seems Ed later admitted he was wrong and they moved on.

Y&R still tapes about a month in advance, right? Assuming if he didn't take any time off, we should be seeing Scott in the Y&R credits very soon.

Y&R: Ed Scott Returns As Senior Producer
This was put together for Mel and Ed’s Lifetime Achievement Daytime Emmy awards a few months back. 8:30 in gives a good snapshot of how Ed works as a producer (at B&B) - he’s the lead producer in the booth working with the director of the day and other producers, but also goes out into the floor to give notes to actors. What’s hilarious is that Mel also talked a few months back at the Daytime Emmy’s red carpet about how her marriage to Ed often caused jealousy and tension with other actors. I think Jeanne Cooper is the only one that went on record in her book and spoke about the preferential treatment Ed gave his wife and how that gave Mel an inflated ego for a while. 1:49 in:

I forgot about Fisher, lol. I think he’s been there since Jack Smith’s EP tenure.

Y&R: Ed Scott Returns As Senior Producer
It does bring up a question about B&B - did Sony “steal” Scott back, or did Brad Bell let him go and Sony caught wind of that lured him back to Y&R? I do think B&B’s licensing fee was likely hit by their recent renewal by CBS and we may be seeing some effect of that now. That said, Y&R has way too many producers on their staff. I wonder if any of these people will be let go and relieved of producing duties. Griffith and Beall likely just have these titles as names only, but the rest? - Josh Griffith (EP) - Jonathan Fishman (Producer) - Vivian Gundaker (Producer) - Elizabeth LeBrun (Producer) - Matthew J. Olsen (Producer) - Amanda L. Beall (Producer)

I don’t know, occasionally they’ll bust out some old cues at random. The recent Sharon flashback episode had a few, I believe.

Y&R: Ed Scott Returns As Senior Producer
Owen Renfroe recently talked about the Sharon episode where Heather dies and how much creative license he had a director to push himself and how great work can still be done in daytime. He and Sally are the best on that directing team and I can see Scott producing great/aesthetically pleasing episodes with them.

Y&R: Ed Scott Returns As Senior Producer
My guess is Scott will be the lead producer running things in the studio day to day and overseeing the various departments and finances. Griffith and Kent aren’t technical producers and aren’t in the studio every day to manage production.

Y&R: Ed Scott Returns As Senior Producer
Guys, B&B is proof that you can have talented people on your producing team, but the show will continue to be crap as long as a creatively inept mind like Brad Bell is in charge of the creative output.

Y&R: Ed Scott Returns As Senior Producer
The production values are going to improve, and I can see him producing aesthetically pleasing episodes with great directors like Owen Renfroe and Sally McDonald (obviously he worked with her before). But story-wise? Griffith needs to go and things won’t get better creatively until he and Kent are gone. Also, this should be in the main forum. It’s not a show spoiler. @Errol @Toups But maybe this is an indication that Griffith may be on his way out soon? Perhaps CBS gave Sony a mandate to improve things with the upcoming launch of Beyond The Gates. There has to be more to the story here.

It’s not common - when the late Meg Bennett wrote for Y&R and still acted on the show, Bill Bell made it clear she couldn’t write or contribute to material involving her character to avoid the conflict of interest issue. Brad Bell may have a similar arrangement with Heather Tom. I think Rowell wanted to specifically write for characters in Dru’s orbit or advocate for her character or those closely tied to Dru. That would have been a clear conflict of interest if she was on the writing staff, IMO. Granted, she did contribute ideas like the Devon’s foster care storyline, but she wasn't involved in the writing of the actual material.- BTG: History, Behind the Scenes Articles & Photos

They were estranged for many years (especially since he wrote a cash grab tell all about her), but they were incredibly close before that and he was a major contributor to her creative output during the first 15 years or so of her career. RIP. She recently lost her step-mother and her other brother died a few years back as well. But I know this one probably hurts the most for her.- BTG: History, Behind the Scenes Articles & Photos
Yeah, most new soaps need at least 3-6 months, or hell, even a full year (or more) to really "find" themselves. Some never do (Loving), or some only do when a steady hand comes in, but ultimately its too late (like Generations when Jorn Winther came in to Executive Produce Sally Sussman Morina's lackluster material).- GH: October 2024 Discussion Thread

Ron Hale was very underrated and gave so much to his characters on RH and GH with little appreciation, even when the writing just wasn’t there. RIP- ARTICLE: Kelly Monaco Talks “Dismantling” Of Her ‘General Hospital’ Character, States “The Truth Will Set You Free”

Y&R director, Owen Renfroe, recently did this Q&A session with some aspiring actors. I feel like he’s talking about the 9/26 episode when he talked about a recent episode that was a challenge he loved and loosely inspired by Ripley on Netflix.- Y&R September 2024 Discussion Thread
I’m not surprised Owen Renfroe and Sally McDonald directed these two episodes. They’re usually the ones who can almost make Griffith’s material slightly passable and usually direct the major episodes. Case is a pro as a usual. - 2024: The Directors and Writers Thread
