McConnell is just the worst. He even blocked a bill to protect Mueller from being fired.

So 45 is on tack to spend 1/10th of a billion dollars on golf trips by the end of his first term . http://trumpgolfcount.com/ This is a national shame.

Your daily (or nightly) thought
This is sad. Elder abuse is rampant and I'm afraid it's only going to get worse as our population ages.

Yeah, he's an ass. She wasn't perfect, but who among us is? I'm very glad that no one cared enough to record my every word and deed for the last 44 years. Makes it a lot easier to live those worst moments down.

Let's say this isn't true. That his approval rating is 35%. That means over 1/3 of our population is ok with this administration. So much about American mythology (pull yourself up by your boot straps, the rugged individual, upward social mobility) is self defeating. It gives us an excuse not to teach our children how to live in a pluralistic society from a young age. At least in the short term we are screwed, imho. The even bigger question is what does the state of the world say about our species overall? It seems to me we are a petty, tribal lot that will be lucky if we don't destroy ourselves.

^ That's for sure. It didn't change anything the first time, why would it this time? This is another case of Trump having no idea of what he's doing. This isn’t the first time Trump has responded to the use of chemical weapons in Syria. He ordered a similar strike almost exactly a year ago in response to a regime-ordered chemical weapons attack in rebel-held northern Syria. The United States shot 59 Tomahawk missiles at the al-Shayrat airbase, where Assad had launched the chemical attack on April 4, 2017, that killed more than 80 people. https://www.vox.com/2018/4/13/17221420/trump-syria-attack-strike-assad-russia-response-chemical-weapon

That's what I'm talking about. The IDF is on the Israeli/Syrian boarder expecting an attack from there. They've been on high alert since they made there own strike on Syria a week or so ago.

I think Hezbollah could certainly attack Israel because of this. I saw pictures last night of the IDF on their boarder basically waiting for it. I also always assume that attacks like this will lead to more terrorism. I just don't think Russia is going to directly attack the USA militarily because of Syria. It's not like this is even the first time this has happened. Didn't this entire scenario play out about a year ago? We just keep making the same mistakes over and over. Oh, and it looks like we've taken 34 Syrian refugees in the first fiscal quarter of 2018. That's a recipe for making friends. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/jan/26/trump-administration-refugees-resettlement

He may be a little drunk on the power that comes with having so many followers, but I think he's giving good analysis. I think it's good that Britain and France were also involved in the strikes. I see that Russia has threaten to retaliate. Probably cyber attacks, I don't think they want to bring on a world war. Putin seems craftier than that. I hope.

"The Conners" Discussion Thread
Yeah, I agree. I used the word interesting to describe the article for that reason. It had some information I found interesting, but I thought the person who wrote it was kind of a jerk. I think the idea that liberals lean toward escapist shows might be true. I certainly do. I'm also not that interested in comedy overall, but i watched them as a kid, so the reboots can get me interested if they are good. It annoyed me that they tried to valid spanking as a good parenting choice. Is there even one valid study that shows it to be anything other than harmful? At the same time there is a huge number of people in this country that considerate a valid option. While I don't like it, it's the reality, and it's the type of issue you don't see all that often on TV. At least I don't.

Thankfully, but it was close. I follow one of the writers (Mike Royce) on twitter and he said they had reason to worry it wouldn't be renewed. I think those of us that like it are probably lucky that Netflix is trying to build an inventory and the show got a ton of positive press.

https://www.cnn.com/2018/04/10/opinions/roseanne-exposes-liberal-hypocrisy-richard-morgan-opinion/index.html This is an interesting article. I didn't realize that shows like ODAAT and Blackish have such a small viewership. That's too bad because I really like ODAAT. I would argue that Roseanne's appeal is class. We don't see blue collar families that often. Roseanne is also a little more gritty than a show like ODAAT. Roseanne has never idealized parenthood like some shows do. I agree that Roseanne herself is a little stiff. I've been watching some of the season one episodes and I loved the way she would always laugh or smile with the other characters. 30 years is a long time though. I don't expect her to pick up where she dropped off.

It should be clear to everyone by now that we only bring chaos when we try to intervene in these types of wars. How many more countries do we have to help destroy before we stop for good? Part of the problem is that as a whole we are removed from the pain. We just bomb the f*ck out of these places and it doesn't seem real to most of us on the home front.

I agree that things are as serious as this. We face tremendous debt thanks to that insane tax plan. We have a ruler who is completely corrupt and after nothing except his own gain. A Congress that sees how dangerous and criminal he is, but won't act. I do believe Mueller will come through sometime in 2019 if he isn't fired or obstructed. Still, every day Trump and his ilk are in charge the danger to our freedom increases. Even if it's not our actual sovereignty as a nation at stake (and it may be), what good is keeping it if we are some fascist state?

^ That's what I want to believe. I'll feel a lot more sure of it if Democrats take The House. As it stands, it seems like no matter what Trump does the Republicans will back him and he won't face the consequences.

Yes. In so many ways. Cohen should have known better. I understand that the fabulously wealthy are going to do shady things, but using your lawyer as your fixer and then going into politics seems incredibly foolish. Some think Mueller has Trump's taxes because of this raid. We'll see. This goes for Kushner too. Why break the law and then seek attention by going into public "service"? Be happy with your fabulous wealth, break the law and stay out of the lime light!
