  1. That's an excellent idea. It would have given Joan a lot of meaty material to play and maybe a Emmy nomination. By the end they were making a clown out of Val and giving her stupid stuff like the brain virus etc...or have her being terrorized for the 20th time.
  2. I think they should have not had Gary cheat with Judy. That story was a nothing burger anyway . They should have had him be faithful to Val till Season 3 when he finally succumbed to Abby. It would have had a lot more of an impact, but since he had already cheated with Judy it came across as "Oops I did it again, sorry Val". Also, since Val's cancer story was done in the self contained years, it did not have much of an impact. It was over with after 1 episode and the next she was fully recovered and being terrorized at a baby shower. If they had done that story a bit later, they could have taken that story further with Val having to do chemo etc...
  3. It's weird how an actor will play a role for decades and then decide to tweak it and play it totally different. VW is a prime example of that. Brenda on Y&R started camping up Jill in the 80's and came across as a hybrid of Joan Collins and Bette Davis. She also kind of picked up a eurotrash accent at the end of her run.
  4. The only way Sid could have survived the transition is if he left the dealership and became a detective or a D.A. after his car accident. He felt it was his life's work to take down crime and would morph into what the Mac character was after going back to school (very quickly in KL time) to get his credentials. Another option would he would be business partners with Gary in Lotus Point etc...but then that would might have left Karen out of the mix unless they both joined Gary. This venture would open Sid's eyes to what a schemer Abby was.
  5. It's the least Gary could do after he cheated on her twice and constantly threw her under the bus when things got hard. I wish Miss Ellie had paid a visit and told Gary what she thought. Maybe Miss Ellie had the house put in Val's name because she knew deep down Gary was not capable of handling responsibility.
  6. I just remember Julia dropped by Nikki's house and Victor and Katherine are there. Katherine started getting catty towards Julia as she was leaving and they exchanged barbs. Julia commented to Victor that every time she was around him women wound up clawing at each other. The scene was on youtube before it was pulled. Not sure of the original airdate. I found this promo from 1980.
  7. When Gary & Val split, I'm glad Val kept the house and made him move out. He could have pulled that crap that his Mama was the one who bought the house and he would be living there with Abby. Years later after Val and Gary got back together and moved back to the cul-de-sac, Val was at a loss on how to set things up with stuff from the ranch. It would have been a nice nod to the past if they drug out Miss Ellie's furniture from storage and put it back in the house.
  8. Yes, he was great on Family Matters. (I was a 90's teen too). I turned 20 in 98.
  9. I agree. Barry Jenner (Jeff) was on Dallas 1984-1986. He could have easily returned to KL after his Dallas stint was over.
  10. That episode about Cricket was one stupid episode. I didn't get why they tossed that into the mix. The S2 hostage crisis episode was cheesy kind of fun, but really served no purpose. If that episode had been during S3, Gary may have secretly wished Val would be offed and Abby survive so he could be with her guilt free....LOL I wonder why Abby never made Gary legally adopt Brian and Olivia so she could declare them Ewing heirs ? Jeff just disappeared after he kidnapped them and was never mentioned again.
  11. That's a very good analysis of those characters. Laura was so sad and pathetic in S1 when she would bend over backwards to please Richard (even sleeping with Chip Todson) to help Richard get ahead in business. Yes, Val & Gary were in arrested development when they reunited. For a long time on Dallas, it seemed cruel the way Jock talked about Gary being weak and running away from responsibility. Well, Jock turned out to be right, Gary was weak and self destructive. He even thought it would be better if Val were to die than survive with a colostomy (because it would be too hard for him). I loved it when Bobby ripped him apart over it. It took years for Gary to grow a pair and deal with life head on. I hate that smug shrug he would do when anyone confronted him about one of his screw ups.
  12. Another great Avery episode is "Night" in season 3 when Richard snaps and holds Laura and Jason captive in the house. Poor Laura, every time she tries to free herself from Richard, she finds herself going back. Richard was gross from day 1, but you couldn't help watching him and Laura any time they appeared onscreen. Re: Gary & Val.....Gary was pretty much over his marriage to Val after he fell of the wagon at the end of season 1. By Season 2 he was barely tolerating her and was often pissy any time she spoke to him. He even blew her off when she asked his help when she was helping Karen with her show. In season 3 Gary was screwing around with Abby right in front of her. He was looking out the window, climbing the walls, and walked out of the house in front of her to go be with Abby. She also asks him point blank and he gets up from the bed and slams the bathroom door in her face refusing to answer. Wake up Val !!! Val was desperate to hold onto Gary she made a fool out of herself time and time again....then again, so did all the Ewing women with the brothers. Bobby is always touted as the good Ewing brother, but he often treated Pam like crap and mentally abused her with his macho ego. No wonder she tried to throw herself off a roof.
  13. Two of my Favorite Season 1 episodes are " The Lie" dealing with Laura's rape and a real look into the Avery marriage. It also has a eerie "Looking For Mr. Goodbar" vibe. I like" Courageous Convictions" because Laura tells Richard she wants to be an equal and she's getting a job. Richard was all about living beyond his means and keeping up with the Joneses and it gets them into hot water. That scene where Laura has to put back the stuff at the clothing store in front of Karen & Val is sad.
  14. I wonder what the actors thought when that Biker script was handed to them ? I noticed Joan Van Ark almost breaking character during the scene where "Alien" says they are scaring the pants off him and he strips them off. Season 1 (1979) is like the late 70's walks up and slaps the piss out of you......and I love it so much.
  15. One thing that funny is seasons 1-3 (which is usually voted the least favorite) the houses (especially Val & Laura's) looked best during those years. Later on the decorating choices can be questionable.
  16. I didn't know that. Thanks for the info. I wish a 1968-1970 episode of GL would surface, especially in it's original color format.
  17. There are conflicting dates as to how long VW played Charlotte. I have see 1967-1971 in some places and 1967-1969 in others. They list Felice Carmargo (1969), Dorrie Kavanaugh (1970) Melinda O'Fee (1970-1973). Some places say O"Fee took over the role in 1971. Felice Carmargo is the sister of VW and she substituted for her in 1969. I wonder if Nancy Addison shared any scenes with VW before she departed ? That late 60's/early 70's time period for GL is sketchy to research.
  18. I know Nancy Addison was Kit, but wasn't Melinda O'Fee playing Charlotte by the time the character was killed off ? VW went to AW in 1972.
  19. I was born shortly after Jennifer died and never got to see her run on the show. My Mom mentioned her over the years and I knew all the history with the sisters and Bob. I remember watching when Kim and Bob finally got together in the mid 80's and Kim revealing what she had done with the chance meeting years earlier in Florida. It does sound like Jennifer was a bit of a snob about some things. I remember seeing a clip of Nancy in Bob's office circa 1974 and she was complaining about Jennifer neglecting Frannie. Bob tells her that Jennifer wants to be a Mom and have a career too. Nancy replies " Oh, Bob whoever heard of that"......LOL I also take it Jennifer let Rick give Bob a hard time and she was upset when Bob tried to reprimand him at the hospital. LOL...I wonder how Lisa got along with Jennifer ? I take it Lisa didn't like Kim in the beginning and was catty.
  20. Jennifer must have been a bit of a snob to blow Grandpa's baby crib gift off (no matter how hideous it probably was). I guess she expected something along the lines from Ethan Allen for baby Frannie. Did Jennifer know Kim was pregnant at this time ?
  21. Another mistake they made was they to put it out there immediately that Steven was gay. They should have slowly built up that bombshell without any give away what Steven is hiding. Have Steven and Lindsay fall in love and marry to the disapproval of both families. Then they have a child and they appear to have a picture perfect life for a season or two. Lindsay then starts to suspect he may be cheating on her with another woman since many women are flirting and coming onto him. It all comes to a head when she catches him bed with Ted Dinard. BOOM !!! Steven is revealed to the audience as gay. Maybe Lindsay and Steven agree to a lavender marriage to keep up appearances in front of everyone. They even go to therapy to fix things. Lindsay is miserable and may self medicate. She eventually snaps and accidentally kills Ted in a fit of rage.
  22. I noticed one episode is dated August 1973. I read somewhere that is the same month Kit poisoned Charlotte. Maybe this is the episode where Kit kills her.
  23. Me too. I wonder how Kim got out of the party or if she did ? Nancy could be pretty insistent " Kim Dear, you must attend. It won't be the same without you". Poor Kim was probably afraid she was showing or maybe she would give it away by eating too many pickles or strange food combinations at the buffet....LOL
