  1. I agree. A week or two worth of episodes would be incredible. I think I read the Forrester home set was the Brooks set redone/recycled. The round window from the Brooks set showed up on The Newman ranch set when Nikki redid the house in the late 80's with Cassandra Rawlings as the interior decorator.
  2. I remember reading that The Henderson family was supposed to play an important long term role on the show. The wife Regina was supposed to be kind of a Katherine Chancellor type, but supposedly after Katherine was brought on, Regina Henderson fizzled rather quickly after she appeared the following year. Kay Alden said if you go back and look at Bell's original bible for Y&R, he specifically had the character of Kay Chancellor down to make her debut in November 1973 and Lorie Brooks in December. Bill Bell said one mistake he made in the 70's was failing to sign Tom Selleck to a long term contract. He said at that time Tom didn't have a leading man type of deep voice that was common on soaps in those days and wrote him out after about 2 years. He said when Magnum P.I. hit big in the early 80's, he was kicking himself and saying " Why did I not sign him" ?
  3. I have the first film transferred from a VHS release (which is pretty good quality) and the second one I bought from someone off the net that was taped off WGN decades ago. Here is a grainy promo for it off youtube. The first film was one of the highest rated ABC movies of the week.
  4. Yes. Several projects. One thing comes to mind is an episode of the 1972 Gary Collins series " The Sixth Sense". Gary is on a flight during a storm and Jess plays a woman who is sick going in out of consciousness. She is having psychic premonitions. Colby Chester plays the pilot and Sharon Gless is the stewardess. Sharon and Colby did a couple of TV movies of the week together " All My Darling Daughter's (1972) and My Darling Daughter's Anniversary (1973). She played one of Robert Young's 4 daughter (ala like the Brooks girls on Y&R). In the first film all 4 daughters get married on the same day. Colby Chester was on of the grooms getting married to Fawne Harriman (later of Somerset). Eve Arden was the exasperated wedding planner.
  5. The interesting thing about Jill's pairing with Michael Crawford was when Jess took over the role in 1987 she was reunited Colby Chester who played Michael. They had been contract players together at Universal Studios in the 70's. Another contract actress at that time was Sharon Gless (Cagney & Lacey).
  6. I think Dove dish soap was discontinued sometime in the 90's. I know it was around in the 80's because one of my teachers always purchased it for use to wash our hands at school. The set decorator Brock Broughton who did the Y&R sets in the 70's went on to be the set decorator for Dynasty in the 80's.
  7. Thank You for that link and all the information. I will enjoy reading those. I never understood what suppose to be the fascination with Derek Thurston (and actor Joe LaDue). He was built up as some big hot stud with his tight polo shirts and painted on jeans. He comes across as some middle age guy having a midlife crisis trying to appear youthful.
  8. Yes that last scene with the beautiful sad background music as Jennifer was being taken to surgery is high drama. I wish that Katherine could have interacted with the Brooks more and maybe have her stop by and see Jenn with flowers. I wish we could see all these 70's episodes. I saw Jane Curtin in that ad too. I think the little girl in the second Dove dish washing ad is Dana Plato.
  9. Thank you for another treasure from the 1970's.
  10. I would say there are. A lot of ABC & NBC soaps, game shows, and daytime commercials have popped up from those years, so there had to be someone taping Y&R. I would flip to see Nikki and Greg Foster's 1979 wedding in the Brooks house. I have seen bits of it and the reception party.
  11. Donna Mills, Larry Hagman, and David Wayne on the short lived 1971/72 sitcom The Good Life. Tony Orlando and Dawn sing the theme song.
  12. A very grainy 16mm copy of the short lived 1971-72 sitcom The Good Life. Larry Hagman, Donna Mills, and David Wayne star. Tony Orlando and Dawn sing the theme song.
  13. about 20 minutes in. A scene from 1970/1971
  14. The Facts Of Life premiered today August 24, 1979. Happy Anniversary
  15. Thanks for the info. Actress Kelly Harmon (sister of Mark Harmon) did a lot of those radio ads as well along with being the spokes person for tic tac for years. Kelly and Mark's other sister Kris Harmon married teen idol and TV star Ricky Nelson. Their daughter Tracy Nelson is an actress and was married to Falcon Crest actor Billy Moses. Tracy's twin brothers had a 80's rock group Nelson.
  16. Randolph Powell (Alan Beam) in the Speed Stick Ad. The actress playing his wife/tennis partner looks familiar. Anyone recognize her ? Deborah Shelton (Mandy Winger) in the Radio Station ad.
  17. I think John Aniston also had a role on Days in the late 60's before coming back to the show. I think Carolyn Conwell played about 3 roles on Y&R in the 70's before becoming Mary in 1980. Cindy Fisher (Doug Davidson's wife) had several small roles on Y&R. She stole Victor's car, was in the cult with Nikki and Paul, and played a girl in the late 80's that Mary set Paul up with. Cindy Eilbacher had a role on Y&R before becoming April Stevens. Several actors on Dallas, Dynasty, and Knots Landing played bit roles and came back as other characters later on. Gordon Thomson has been on Y&R twice.
  18. I did not watch SB back then, and have just seen random stuff on youtube. Charles Bateman played the part for over a year according to what I have read and then replaced with Jed Allen. Why was Bateman let go ?
  19. Dallas....the character of Pam Ewing and the show itself was created for Linda Evans. When David Jacobs finished writing the script, he realized it was not right for Linda. The script wound up in the hands of Victoria Principal and she knew she wanted the role. The character of Sue Ellen was to be played by Mary Frann, but Linda Gray got the part. J.R was supposed to of been played by Robert Foxworth. Foxworth did not like the fact the character of J.R. was ruthless for just the sake of being ruthless. Foxworth questioned everything David Jacobs wrote for the character and finally passed on it. Jacobs said when he created the part of Lucy he pictured Stefanie Kramer (later of Hunter fame) for the part. CBS went with Charlene Tilton, which you could tell in interviews he felt was a mistake. Steve Kanally read for Bobby and Ken Kercheval read for Ray. Knots Landing......Gary Ewing was originally played David Akyroyd on Dallas in 1978. When KL was offered to him in 1979, he passed to do another show that was canned after a few episodes. He later appeared on Knots as another character. Y&R......Actress Mary Grover was cast as Leslie Brooks, but did not make it to air and Janice Lynde had to rush tape scenes before the first show aired.
  20. I always wanted to see Judith Light share scenes with Joan Van Ark in a project.
  21. The funny thing about that Marie Osmond article is the fact she has admitted in recent years to being an avid Y&R viewer since the 70's and even had several of the cast members on her talk show. Those various soap publications made sure to get many gratuitous beefcake shots of the soap actors. I never knew Janice Lynde was fired from Y&R. I always assumed she wanted out to do prime time etc...and to go back to New York.
  22. This is the first time I saw a pic of the actress who played Julie after Charla Doherty left role. How long did each actress play the part before SSH took over in 1968 ? Speaking of Julie......I recently bought the Time Life Carol Burnett DVD's and they include episodes from the first 5 years of the show (1967-1971) that have never been rerun since their original airings. In the first season (1967-68), actor Flip Mark who played Julie's brother on Days appeared in several CB episodes as a boyfriend of Vicki Lawrence in the Carol & Sis sketches. Vicki was 18 when the show started.
  23. Yes, Cable and Satellite in the late 70's/80's started to pull viewers away from network TV. I think another problem is people of the young generation (Millennial's and Gen Z) have a shorter attention span and do not have the patience or tolerance for long dragged out storylines. They want action within the first 10 minutes or they move on. TV seasons use to consist of 25-30 episodes a season, now a season is maybe 8 episodes if that.
  24. I would say Tammy Taylor since she was dropped quickly. When Lilibet Stern took over, she and the character of Patty became popular and she was all over magazines.
  25. I always wondered why Guthrie never did another long soap gig ? i know he died in the 90's and people rumored about what was the cause of death. SSF should have been more discreet. That would have been around the time of Anita Bryant.
