  1. You were correct originally. Farley played the role of Will Vernon on One Life to Live from 1976 to 1977. He appeared as Trent Archer on The Edge of Night in September and October 1979. He was part of the Mansion of the Damned storyline with Kim Hunter. That storyline definitely aired in 1979-1980
  2. Wow. That's fascinating that Irna wanted to kill off Alice Horton. Did she have a plan for Tom after Alice's death? Thanks for sharing this!
  3. It was likely Douglas Marland. He was briefly at ATWT for about 13 weeks before moving to GL.
  4. Thanks for sharing that!! I’ve never heard this variation of the closing theme before. I really like this version.
  5. I never understood how NBC was planning to move Steve over to the proposed spinoff. As I recollect, in early 1970 when they were planting the seeds for the spinoff, Carolee was involved with the student nurses and the mystery of the lock box, while Steve was romancing Althea, then played by Virginia Vestoff. Was Althea going to be part of the spinoff too?
  6. I completely forgot about Derek's infatuation with Nicole. I guess Slesar was gearing up for a quadrangle with Nicole, Miles, Derek, and Derek's ex-wife Ivy. I remember mentions of Ivy in the fall of 1979 and it sounded like she was going to stir up trouble in Monticello. I've always assumed that Slesar dropped plans for Ivy when Sharon Gabet decided to return as Raven.
  7. The Matthews family is on the left side of the photo: Pat, John, Marianne, Liz, Michael, Jim, Alice, and Susan. As Neil said, Dan Shearer doesn't seem to be in the photo. Sally wasn't around at this point. She returned in April 1979.
  8. It could be a nod to the Little Bar in Provincetown, MA.
  9. Beverlee was on Texas for about 16 months: from August 4, 1980 to late November/early December 1981.
  10. The 1974 issue of Daytime TV Stars I found in Provincetown has a story about single soap stars, including David O'Brien and Palmer Deane. It actually references Forrest Compton from The Edge of Night stating that people will think an actor is "gay" if he isn't married after a certain age (gay was in quotes in the article). And then went on to emphasize that Forrest was a ladies man.
  11. February 1971 TV Radio Show interview with David O'Brien: February 1971 TV Radio Show interview with Carolee Campbell:
  12. February 1971 interview with Ellen Holly from TV Radio Show:
  13. Synopses of radio soaps from September 1951 issue of Radio Television Mirror:
  14. The November 1980 issue only listed the top 10 soaps. I found these issues at Marine Specialities in P-Town a few years ago. I came across them when I was reorganizing the other day. The last few times, they didn't have any magazines in the store. I'll have to see about scanning some of the articles. Besides those two, I have a Radio Television Mirror issue from September 1951 with an article about Hawkins Falls and snyopses of all the radio soaps. There's also a February 1971 issue of TV Radio Show with a section on soaps and interviews with David O'Brien, Carolee Campbell, and Ellen Holly. And an April 1974 issue of Daytime TV Stars. Bill Hayes, Susan Seaforth, Lee Patterson, and Erika Slezak are on the cover. There's a whole section on single daytime stars. There are interviews with Anthony George, Emily McLaughlin (looking absolutely stunning), Georgann Johnson, Charles Frank and Susan Blanchard, and Charita Bauer, plus a review of Search for Tomorrow. I'm going to work on scanning and posting some of the articles later today.
  15. Ratings from two issues of Daytime TV that I found in Provincetown, MA: November 1980 issue GH - 9.0/32 AMC - 8.8/33 OLTL - 7.7/29 Y&R - 7.5/29 GL - 7.5/26 ATWT - 6.9/26 RH - 6.5/26 SFT - 5.8/23 AW - 5.6/20 DOOL - 5.2/20 January 1983 issue AMC - 9.4/34 GH - 8.6/32 Y&R - 7.8/33 OLTL - 7.7/30 GL - 7.6/28 ATWT - 7.4/27 CAP - 6.3/25 RH - 6.2/26 DOOL - 5.6/20 AW - 4.3/17 EON - 3.9/14 SFT - 2.7/11 TX - 2.6/11 TD - 1.9/8
  16. I'm not sure if The Doctors was always in the same studio, but the show did add a bunch of new sets in anticipation of the possible 1970 spinoff. Carolee got her own office. There was a large student lounge and student dorm rooms. After the spinoff wasn't picked up and the story ended, the dorm and student lounge were dropped. So the studio was able to accommodate additional sets albeit for a short time.
  17. The video is still out there on Chandler Harben’s YT page. The video features the final episode plus a CBS News segment where Audrey gets emotional as she talks about the sadness in the show ending.
  18. Mary arrived in August 1986 when Margaret DePriest was the head writer. DePriest then introduced Jason in December 1987. Originally, Jason was slated to have two daughters but those plans were quickly scrapped after DePriest was replaced by Sheri Anderson in early 1988. DePriest was the one who introduced the Frame farmhouse as both Jason and Rachel wanted to buy it (Rachel wanted it for Jamie).
  19. Reva was known as Rebecca when she lived with the Blume family in Goshen. I believe Buzz also showed up in Goshen and connected with Reva/Rebecca.
  20. I believe Frank Fish is the one that wrote the screenplay. Frank was played by William H. Macy. Milo Simonelli was the producer. He was played by Louie Zorich, husband of Olympia Dukakis. And Vic Strang, played by Ben Masters, was the director. As for Jamie's novel, it must have been a huge book as it covered so many characters based on the residents of Bay City, including relatively new characters like Melissa Needham and Jason Dunlap.
  21. Mark Singleton was a politician, not an editor. He didn't have anything to do with the screenplay for "A View of the Bay." That storyline took place in 1982 during Corinne Jacker's stint. Mark didn't show up until sometime in 1983.
  22. Thanks @slick jones. What a lovely post. Like so many others, 2022 was a bumpy year with lots of successes and challenges. Through it all, SON was a place I could rely upon for new discoveries about soaps, opportunities to relive classic soap moments, and chances to learn more about the long, rich history of daytime soaps. I'm very grateful for this board, for the wonderful people who post here, and for the friendships I've made here. I wish everyone here nothing but the best in 2023! And as the iconic Mrs. Slocombe from Are You Being Served? would say, I am unanimous in that!
  23. Kathleen Fisk played the role of Kelly Conway.
  24. The scientist was Lena. In terms of Bianca's love interests, there was also Reese Williams and Marissa.
  25. If I remember correctly, the spinoff was dead in the water by 1993 when Reilly took over as head writer. 1993 was around the time that the magazines started talking about another possible NBC soap, Coming of Age, which had Bill Bell Jr. involved somehow. Missing amongst all of this is the fact that Gene Palumbo was involved in the creation of Manhattan Lives aka Body and Soul. It wasn't just Sheri Anderson. In fact, if I remember correctly, Palumbo was the one who was mentioned as the creator and/or head writer of the show in the articles back in the day. He was head writer in 1991 when Marlena returned.
