  1. Kathryn Hays did not replace Geraldine Court on the As the World Turns. It was Gillian Spencer who replaced Geraldine Court as Jennifer Hughes.
  2. The Mansion of the Damned set seems to be a nice blend of the Collingswood foyer and drawing room from Dark Shadows, though the staircase is a bit different. Edge seemed to really invest in new sets in 1979, including the Madison's house. I was always disappointed the Madison house wasn't reused after the family was written out.
  3. I can see Pine Valley being based on both Bryn Mawr and Rosemont, which is where Agnes lived I believe. Having gone to graduate school on the Main Line (Rosemont College), I'm not sure Llanview is based on an actual town on the Main Line. Perhaps I might be based on Lancaster, PA. I do recall an episode of All My Children that featured a map that showed Llanview, Pine Valley, and Corinth were all located in the Main Line area. My thesis advisor lived in Ardmore (also on the Main Line) and there is a Llanfair Circle and Llanfair Road in Ardmore.
  4. When I was in college back around 1984, I came across a soap-related book in my university library. The book included a story projection for Love of Life that involved Meg's return. I recall it was pretty detailed and did involve Sarah. As part of the story, I think Bruce was going to feel alienated by Van and was going to start an extramarital affair with another woman. I'm hoping to go over to the university library after the semester is over to see if I can locate the book.
  5. What could have been much more interesting is if the twist involved Alex and Alan’s mother Penelope. Let’s say Sharina worked for the Spauldings. Trapped in a loveless marriage to Brandon, Penelope struck up a friendship with Sharina’s brother Conrad and they started an affair. Penelope becomes pregnant and gives birth to a daughter, Victoria, who is clearly Conrad’s child. Angered by the betrayal, Brandon comes up with an elaborate lie that Penelope died in childbirth and exiles Penelope and Victoria to Barbados. In 1984, the truth is revealed and Alex discovers her mother is alive and she has a half-sister. So much story fodder could have come from this twist. How would Alex and Alan react to their mother being alive and the realization that she stayed out of their lives for decades, leaving them with a cruel unloving father? This could have been a chance to not only introduce Victoria as a permanent character but also perhaps a short story arc for Penelope. They could have cast a name actress for Penelope. I’m envisioning someone like Barbara Stanwyck.
  6. That’s my recollection too; she had been offered the role of Lydia after Edge was cancelled. If I remember correctly, people wrongly assumed she had been offered the role of Echo based upon Sharon’s description of the character.
  7. I only recollect Kim Hamilton portraying Victoria briefly in 1984. And then, as you pointed out, her daughter showed up in 1998. I really liked the original Vicky — Karen Williams, who would sometimes use an accent in her performances.
  8. How did their daughter Victoria suffer from recasting and retconning?
  9. These two websites make the claim that Mona was friends with Kitty's mom Lucy: http://www.eyeonsoaps.com/AMC/char - myrtle.htm http://www.pinevalleybulletin.com/Quick Guide/BiographiesWeb/FargateMyrtleLum.html Whether those sites are accurate is another story. The first site falsely makes the claim that Kitty left Pine Valley in 1979. If I recall correctly, Kitty died in 1977.
  10. That was mentioned on here months ago. It was when people were discussing whether this was a short arc for Halloween. Someone (possibly Errol?) said this was a long-term storyline and was still airing as of February 2022.
  11. Yep. It was in 1995. WT Martin played the role.
  12. Chelsea arrived over a year after Nola left so they never interacted. I believe the Reardons returned for Maureen’s funeral but were not seen. Bridget was the daughter of Sean Reardon, brother to Nola, Tony, Maureen, Jim, Chelsea, and Lana, who was never seen. Sean had other children, including Matt.
  13. I thought that the Sheas had great potential, but Corinne Jacker quickly scrapped the entire family. Poor Loretta, played by the always excellent Anita Gillette, lasted all of three months. Harry lasted seven months. And Pete was gone after 10 months. Daughters Bridget and Terri were originally slated to be teenagers. I remember reading about that in one of the soap rags. I recall at least one of the Shea daughters appeared on screen, but she was a child not a teen as had been announced earlier.
  14. If I recall correctly, the actor who played the creepy guy in the film was Robert Emhardt, who originated the role of Mac Cory on Another World.
  15. I think you're right. I believe the other co-HW was Juliet Law Packer. I always found Richard Backus to be a mesmerizing and excellent actor. His portrayal of Jason Saxton on For Richer, For Poorer was one of the most memorable things about that show.
  16. Reruns of Chico and the Man replaced Lovers and Friends in the 12:30 time slot (here on the east coast). At some point, The Gong Show moved from 4:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. and replaced Chico. When L&F returned as For Richer, For Poorer, it was given the 1:00 p.m. time slot.
  17. What an amazing find, Victoria!!! Thanks for posting this. I've been watching some of the videos and found something unusual. According to the closing credits, someone by the name of Jackson Chase was head writer of Search for Tomorrow in December 1981. (The video says it's from 1982 but in the comments people are saying it was likely 1981). Hasn't ever heard of Jackson Chase? So this would be after Don Chastain's stint.
  18. No trophy? In the segment with Burton and McCook, both held up their trophies. Laura Wright and the other actresses came out holding their trophies. And why would GH send another actor? The Talk was honoring the winners.
  19. Joseph no longer posts here, so I don't think you'll get an answer from him. I believe he was referring to Brooke Logan, a character from the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful. Like Erica Kane, Brooke Logan has been married many times.
  20. If Irna was under an exclusive contact with Procter & Gamble from around 1964 to 1970, how was she able to be involved with both Days of our Lives and Love is a Many Splendored Thing? I don't believe, though could be wrong, that either show had anything to do with P&G.
  21. I know what you mean. I’ve driven that route — the last time was last Sunday — and it was draining. I was so excited that both shows were coming back and then disillusioned when my friend filled us in on how troubled things were in the studio.
  22. But Prospect Park produced content beyond AMC and OLTL, including Salem, which aired after the two soaps ended. Prospect Park produced Royal Pains for years. TOLN always never seemed to have much of a presence and faded quickly. That said, the production was troubled. My husband and I had a dinner party in March 2013 that was attended by someone in the soap industry. He filled me in about the issues that were later revealed, including cast and crew not getting paid. He said morale was horribly low with the crew, who were being bussed to CT from NY.
  23. And add Edge to that list of New York soaps that were on the air in 1984!
  24. I recall one of the soap rags discussing how Tracey opted not to go by the name Tracey E. Recht. 😄
  25. I'm not sure Lemay had anything to do with Bert Kramer's casting. Lemay was long gone from Another World by the time Texas debuted in August 1980. And I've never heard of Lemay's name associated with anything involving Texas. Do you mean Paul Rauch? That said, Donald May would have been a great idea to play Alex. However, Donald didn't join Texas until June 18, 1981 (I remember the date as I graduated from high school that day.) I believe Gail Kobe was the Executive Producer when Donald joined the show.
