  1. I thought the plan was to introduce Annie's ex Jake. He could have been the one in a triangle with Josh and Annie rather than Rick. I vaguely recall that Kin Shriner was rumored to be under consideration for the role of Jake.
  2. It's true that Edge didn't have many murder trials in its latter years, but it did feature a trial in its last few months as Raven went on trial for murder.
  3. I was a big fan of "Somewhere in the Night" and bought Billy Chinook's CD back then. Didn't he record Guiding Light's theme song "Hold onto Love" with Roberta Flack? I forgot that Billy used to live in Asbury Park, NJ, where my family vacationed back in the late 60s/early 70s. Sadly, Billy took his life in 2007.
  4. @Mona Kane Croft This was before the cancellation. In her book, Zimmer says that the plan was to start 2008 "with a new look for the show." She says that Wheeler's idea was to change the title to The New Guiding Light and that everything that came before would have been erased.
  5. I can't recall if this was discussed here, but does anyone know what Wheeler's plans were for reinventing the show as The New Guiding Light? Zimmer's memoir briefly discusses that scenario.
  6. I thought that Tom Reardon was their fishing guide. And the fishing trip with Annie Sims happened in 1963, not the 1950s. There were frequent mentions of the event happening "20 years ago."
  7. I was thinking Annie or Lisa. Didn't they toy with pairing Lisa and Brad?
  8. No, that's not Nikki. I think it's Leslie Brooks as played by the late Victoria Mallory. And I agree with Paul. I think the blonde at the bottom is Dee Stewart.
  9. I remember rolling my eyes when Cassie and Cyrus hooked up. I don't remember all the details, but I do recollect them meeting at Towers and then heading to Cassie's car, which was parked on a country road. They then ended up in a barn (I think) where they had sex. It made no sense at all. Why would Cassie park her car on a country road when it was already established that the building Towers was in had a garage? I'm sorry, but that's horribly lazy writing. If you want to tape their sex scene in a barn, then come up with a plausible reason for them being near the barn.
  10. Slick Jones shared recently that Danfling (Terry) passed away last June.
  11. @EricMontreal22 It was actually the late Danfling's message board where the creator refused to acknowledge California shows as soaps, not WOST. I still miss WOST. It was such a special place.
  12. There was also a Daytime TV article that indicated that the working title was Another World: Houston and that Russ Matthews was slated to be a main character.
  13. The Corringtons were head writers of Capitol from around 1982 to 1983. They replaced Stephen and Elinor Karpf and were replaced by Peggy O'Shea.
  14. In all fairness to DePriest, from my read of the information on the Another World Home Page, she inherited one of the 1996 serial killer storylines from Craig Carlson and Tom King. Carlson and King penned the hospital serial killer story, which wrapped in March 1996. In April, they started the next serial killer storyline with the murder of Blair Baker. DePriest didn't arrive until May. Personally, I felt that DePriest's stint as head writer of The Doctors in 1976 was quite good. NBC must have seen value in DePriest as the network toyed with green-lighting her own soap sometime around 1983 or so. Variety had reported on the possible DePriest-created soap, which was titled Deadline (its setting was a newspaper).
  15. Her name is Jerri Tubbs and she was Hopper's ex-wife on Stranger Things. She was also on The Walking Dead. I see a slight resemblance to Connie Britton (American Horror Story, 9-1-1).
  16. If I remember correctly, an article that appeared in early 1997 hinted that the show was planning a major Roger/Holly storyline. It was right around the time that several GL actors, including Michael Zaslow and Maureen Garrett, reenacted a radio episode as part of the show's 60th anniversary.
  17. Michael's last episode as Roger aired around April 23, 1997. Brown and Esensten were head writers at that point; their first head writing credit aired on March 31, 1997.
  18. I always found it curious that Another World hired two Australian actresses simultaneously: Carmen Duncan and Joy Bell, who played the role of Caroline. With Iris suddenly sporting an Australian accent thanks to Duncan’s casting, I often wondered if Caroline was going to be related to Iris. For instance, a long-lost daughter?
  19. I believe Cole left before the show ended but came back in the last few episodes. He appeared in the next-to-last episode in scenes where Jeffrey was chasing Edmund on a rooftop. I remember cringing when I watched those scenes.
  20. I'm so sorry to read about Terry. I noticed he hadn't posted in a while and was hoping all was OK. Thanks for sharing the news, Eric. May he rest in peace.
  21. Did they explain why Katie wasn't at Hillary's funeral?
  22. I don't think they even show the funeral. I think they show everyone at the Bauer's house. It felt very hollow. The best part, for me, was the flashbacks at the end of the episode. And, no, there was no focus on Josh. Robert Newman left the show in December 1984 and didn't return until around November 1986. And they did hold off until the new Ed had been on the canvas for some time. Van Vleet arrived in September 1984. Charita last aired in December 1984 and passed away in February 1985. Bert passed away in March 1986. In a matter of months, Van Vleet would be gone and Peter Simon back as Ed. The scenes with Ed grieving felt very hollow to me. I was more moved by Ellen Dolan's performance as Maureen as she and Charita had shared some beautiful scenes right before Charita passed (involving Bert having to move into Ed and Maureen's home). Ironically, within weeks of Bert's death, Dolan would be off the show and replaced by Ellen Parker.
  23. As I recollect, Mike last appeared around September 1984. That was the same month that Richard Van Vleet took over the role of Ed and Marsha Clark's Hillary was killed off. Charita was definitely at Hillary's funeral. Charita last appeared in December 1984 and then passed away in February 1985.
  24. My mom used to buy Star magazine, which had a soaps column that was fairly accurate. Sometime in 1985, the column reported that the show was considering recasting the role of Bert. They even named one of the actresses who was supposedly up for the role.
  25. I haven't seen today's episode yet, but I did see yesterday's episode. While I thought the scenes with Liz and Marie were over the top and silly, oddly I found them realistic and relatable. I've actually seen that kind of behavior between my 70- and 80-something aunts at my dad's funeral and other family funerals.
