  1. You're probably right. It's been so long ago that I don't remember the details but the Chelsea character seemed out of place with the Reardons to me. Chelsea seemed closer to a Southern belle in the midst of the Midwestern working-middle class Reardsons. Just didn't fit.
  2. I'm not sure whether you mean characters who sing or singers who appear on the show but I don't entirely agree with you. ATWT did fairly well with (very) sparingly use of singing in the 1980s. Whitney Houston & Jermaine Jackson launched a hit while on the show and future Tony award winner Tonya Pinkins sang some beautiful solos while on the show as Heather Dalton. Even the thriller mystery surrounding Kim Hughes (Kathryn Hays) that used her backstory as a lounge singer as a the means to get into a stalking then murder/mystery story was done incredibly well. I think that the show used it more effectively in the 1980s which was the right thing to do for the world of the show but became heavy handed in the next decade.
  3. Oh, I remember Chelsea Reardon singing on GL. It seemed very odd and out of place then too.
  4. Whew, thank goodness I missed those parts! Like I said, I was on and off with ATWT from the 90s onward. Although, again ,by spring of 1993, Marland was gone. I suspect that the constant singing was filler by a writing team that needed to buy more time after a sudden death. JMO.
  5. To be honest, I don't remember Bryne singing until the mid 90s, around 94 (although I had dropped out of watching ATWT regularly for a few years during the 90s). Wasn't Marland basically dead by then?
  6. Just another day in Bizarro-land.
  7. Is Kei not still being coached by Michael Chang? This is not generating as much conversation as last year's ATP stars but I wonder whether there might be some maneuvering behind the scenes to change the minds of these players. Just as I said last year, nothing about this sounds good.
  8. Many people said that Harris was getting too far ahead of herself on impeachment, but she turned out to be right (funny how quickly people are willing to dismiss the words of a former prosecutor regarding matters on the law). Harris made some salient remarks with passion, which sad but unsurprisingly were overlooked. This thread is worth a watch. I don't know whether the rest of America will catch up with Harris in time, perhaps she truly is too far ahead for this country.
  9. The woman in the first photo is definitely Lisa Loring who played Cricket Montgomery, Margo and Craig's sister. I haven't seen that episode in years so I'm not sure about the other two. Were there no closing credits?
  10. It should be clear to all but the dumbest Trump supporter why Putin chose to help rig the election in favor of Trump.
  11. Yeah, I read that original article (at another platform other than the NYT) and it was basically that infighting between two of Trump's staff members (Mulvaney and Cippollone) ended up botching the rollout. The other aspect is that because Gowdy is still under lobbying restrictions until January (which, shocker, nobody checked), by the time he could be added to the legal team, the impeachment inquiry may very well have been decided. Brilliant guys, huh?
  12. The E.U. already has Boris Johnson over a barrel, as he has been discovered to be going to the E.U. with his tail between his legs in secret (or what was supposed to be a secret) application for extension, which he vehemently claimed he'd never do in public. No doubt, the E.U. is invigorated and girding for a fight with Trump. They seemingly have plenty of energy to spar with Trump, who has been provoking Germany, France and other E.U. countries.
  13. Trump will want to paint this as a "win" but in reality, China (which has other pressing battles to face) is facing pressure on their imports from India, a country with a population comparable to China and larger than the U.S. Both countries are desperate for a truce as both have a sh*tload of domestic and diplomatic problems in which to contend.
  14. As a candidate, as a Senator, as one of the highest ranked black women politicians, she'll still be relevant regardless.
  15. I don't get my knickers in a twist like other tennis fans when I see players exhorting themselves because I know it's likely that the player is desperately trying to pump themselves up and summon up some courage. People were seemingly put out when Monfils was trying to pump himself up during his QF against Berrettini but anyone who has paid attention to Monfils' career knows that he gets very nervous at times of high stress in a match and he was trying to alleviate the stress, but people insist on falling back on assumptions and stereotypes. I do think that Zverev, even as he tries to exhort himself, it often seems like it's not coming from a genuine place--just kind of like he doesn't truly believe but it sort of looks cool. If that is the case, he just kind of wasting his energy. It's just aggravating when I see people policing people's behavior at every turn. If he's doing something worth a warning, a point penalty or a fine, by all means he should face consequences. Otherwise, leave it alone, let the players be themselves a bit more. It's tiring to see so much nitpicking sometimes.
  16. Things have descended into chaos at lightning speed.
  17. What policy though?
  18. Oh, my list of grievances for how SNL marginalized their Black talent is long but that would be for another thread. Suffice it to say, judging from how he did characterizations for the multiple characters in many of his movie, Murphy likely added a lot more to characters like Gumby and Mr. Robinson, etc. than was originally on the page.
  19. Yeah, I get that sense too. SNL's writing of black characters has been overly broad for about 25 years and running now. It'll be interesting to see if A Black Lady Sketch Show finds a comedic persona for Kamala. They're the only sketch show that I can see with the ability to do this.
  20. Low bar is where we're at, in so many respects these days. They didn't even try where Obama was concerned. They threw up their hands and claimed nothing about him was funny. Meanwhile Key & Peele took their time and concocted Obama's Anger Translator sketches, which were ground in Obama's character and were actually funny and prescient. SNL suffers from lack in their writer's room, I'm at the point where I doubt their writers even take the subway, they seem so far removed from reality.
  21. I suspect that if these courts remain as slow as they are, we're going to see a lot more of this stat.
  22. I agree but at 15, if she stays healthy and focused (that Capriati reference was not the best one ), there is a lot of upside in her game. Of course, I expect that people will also adjust their strategy when they play her now that she's no longer a virtual unknown but I don't expect her game to stay in place either. Either way, it should be interesting and today is a milestone achievement for her.
