Oh, I agree that Trump has his own separate agenda that involves his petty feud with Bezos but the Republicans have complained for many years about the supposed inefficiency of the USPS, similar to the way they railed in favor of small government for years. They are clearly seizing the moment and having someone like Trump who is far more hyped about tearing down the USPS than previous Republican administrations. In fact, I'm not sure he's even hiding behind privatizing or "improvement" of the system so much as he is in dismantling it or having run like a Fortune 500 corporation where he could conceivably make profits off of it as an investor. But the postal service has been on the GOP reshape list since at least the Bush years. As an aside, it's ironic how for so many years the GOP wanted small government, managed to severely cut personnel in the IRS and various federal jobs, touted it as "cutting the waste", so much so that the methods filtered down to many state and municipal governments that also hollowed out their public sector jobs (e.g. Dept. of Labor) under mainly Republican governors and now, in a crisis, it's all come back to bite. The unemployment benefits systems are screwed and in most cases, there aren't enough skilled employees on hand to fix those systems, resulting in interminable waits to get their unemployment. Same with the IRS and the stimulus payments. Don't you just love small government? It's nimble, until you really need it.

^^Discrimination is a key hallmark of the GOP and Trump administration. This is what it has come down to?

The Republicans have been trying to privatize the postal service for many years now. Granted, it hasn't been as focused or lengthy as their efforts to privatize Medicare or dismantle PBS but they've been at toppling the USPS for quite some time. Longer than they've been trying to destroy Obamacare, I'd say.

What I actually meant was that TL's life was a whole lot shorter than WJB's so he would've had far less time to think about it. Although speaking of 1990- on, had Jack Abbott been as magnetic a character going forward as it had been, the Abbotts probably would have absorbed a lot more of the screen time and perhaps there wouldn't have been the emergence of the Winters/Barber family line. I think so too, although by having Phyllis be the one to say it would certainly undercut the value of it.- Y&R to air classic episodes
If he did, he had far less time to regret it than WJB.- Y&R to air classic episodes
Wasn't much of an answer though. Maybe a small gesture to placate people who didn't care for her? In any case, having a psycho like Phyllis being the one to deliver the line, gave sort of a back-handed perverse pleasure that was momentary, I guess.- Y&R to air classic episodes
And the writing still fell short for her, in most cases, imo. Maybe because of ED's physical look, it seemed as the writing of early Ashley worked too hard to make her overly vulnerable. I would have loved to see her in a more powerful position, early. It seemed like that's what they tried to do with her battles with Jack (which she generally ended up on the losing side), especially the last time before she left town for Paris, or NYC but it seemed like a half-hearted effort, of sorts.- Y&R to air classic episodes
LLB was definitely put through her paces in that rape storyline. WJB and LLB had to have felt some pressure to prove the worth of Cricket after TL walked. I mean TL's Jack was so popular that WJB built an entire family around the character (from what I've read). Deep down, you just know that WJB was like "Oh sh*t!" when TL decided to walk away from the role.- The Politics Thread
Just had a thought that it could make for an interesting theater piece to have a play about a marginal Washington couple who decide to use a time of political crisis as an opportunity to raise their standing by positioning themselves to opposite power bases. The twist would be that, by degrees their public opposing stances seep into their private lives and threaten to undue, not only everything they have built professionally but their entire relationship and marriage. I'd write it if I were more interested.- The Politics Thread

Maybe because I know this neighborhood so well but this story of a grocery store in a mainly black and Latino neighborhood that got out ahead of this pandemic and are taking care of each other as they serve the public truly touched me.- Coronavirus/Covid-19 Discussion Thread
Gardening sounds great. Last year, I had a modest crop of kale, peppers and tiny tomatoes (lol) but it won't be happening this year as the weather was not cooperating. Also, the circle of friends who usually bring freshly grown greens and other items won't be coming around for obvious reasons. What's weird is that there seems to be more leafy greens than ever at the supermarket. I think many shoppers may be going more for the dried goods and non-perishable items. Interesting quote from an article that I am reading about the "New Hot Spots" that are emerging in the U.S. Even though this was expected, it is still interesting to see how this is unfolding. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/with-new-hot-spots-emerging-no-sign-of-a-respite/ar-BB13C541 Another quote.- Coronavirus/Covid-19 Discussion Thread
I haven't eaten beef or pork in over 20 years and I try to eat more fish than chicken or turkey. When I first heard about possible infections (it had yet to be confirmed), I vowed not to buy anymore chicken or ground turkey. I've been stocking up on beans, rice, etc. because it's going to be homemade veggie burgers this spring/summer. May as well put that food processor to use.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
Some had a Long Island accent which is very distinct from the city. As a little girl, I had such a crush on Brian Bloom that I didn't care, I was willing to overlook it.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
^^ That just makes me wonder what might have been if characters had been allowed to age normally. Very few soap characters have been allowed to do so and it seems like the ones who do tend to make the deepest impression.- The Tennis Thread

Friends and distant cousins, lol. Someone posted a podcast about a year ago where she and Alec Baldwin both talked about their soap days. It was a fun listen. I think she's still in touch with John Wesley Shipp also, at least they seem to communicate on social media. I've said this before...Locher should ask, the worst they can say is no.- All My Children Tribute Thread
