90 is a long life, but still sad to hear. Seneca was such a wonderfully rich character in those first few years - the story with Nell was incredibly powerful and still stays with me. Sadly the character was one of several trashed for Kimberly, but at least he managed to have a good ending.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
I see that Chris Cousins appeared in the role up to 1990, but SOC says Tonio had him killed in February 1991. The only reason I remembered is because I think it was mentioned in some of the clips where Bob confronts Tonio and is shot. Here is a summary from Tonio's SOC/Soap Opera Central page: Later, Tonio set his sights on the wealthy Sabrina Hughes. However, one complication was Sabrina's former fiancé, Colin Crawley. Another complication was attorney Blake Stevens, who was investigating some dubious dealings of Tonio's. Seeking to get rid of these obstacles, Tonio hired a hit man, Richard Tyrell, to kill both Colin and Blake. Under suspicion for the murder of Colin and Blake, Tonio decided to run off with Sabrina.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
I think he may have later been killed by Tonio.- The Joan Collins Fan Club

She was a terrible actress. I'm not even sure she was an actress, maybe she was a stunt person in that role, but she was terrible. By that point the season-long Big Bad concept (which also caused a lot of problems in season 4) wasn't needed anyway. Joylessness and pessimism is about right. What made it worse and what makes the episodes so hard to watch is the unhappiness of the actors seeps through the screen. The spark was long gone. Xander was weak and pathetic on many occasions (especially his actions at the end of season 2), but I did like Nicholas Brendan's work and his chemistry with Charisma. The character completely lost his way in season 4 and we just got constant reminders of what a loser he was, dragging on and on and on. And Brendan's many struggles since have made rewatching any of his material just about impossible.- Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Discussion Thread
Much as I enjoy a select few season 5 episodes, I generally just pretend Buffy ended after season 3. I did like Tara, but knowing Amber Benson is one of many actors who had a bad experience on the show has colored my memories.- Game Shows

Hopefully he will upload (he has not uploaded some of the other episodes he had closing credits for, but did put up a Y&R episode). I'm not holding my breath though. It truly saddens me that the sponsors and networks took so little care of their soaps and ignore such obvious ways to make revenue, meaning we're in a place where we either have to beg or make financial donations to have any hope of seeing a fragment of an episode.- The Media/Journalism Thread

The main problem is most involved play a lot of very awkward word games (most recently shown with Jacky Rosen). That's likely one of the reasons it's easy to believe they are just hiding behind Manchin a nd Sinema.- RIP: In Memoriam Thread
I just saw the tweet about John Sacret Young. Those first two seasons of China Beach were very special.- The Politics Thread
Multiple times now I've read about how many different things have been taken out of this bill. Here we go again. By the time it does pass it's going to just be the same lip service nobody needs more of:- The Politics Thread
I'm sure she has a valid reason, but this isn't the first time Gillibrand has come across as phony and grandstanding. If Schumer is holding these votes to try to send a message about Republicans, it does no good when Democrats repeatedly miss the votes as well. There really is no coherent strategy at this point. The more time passes the more I tend to believe the people who claimed that a lot of Senate Democrats were hoping the Senate would stay Republican this year. In other wonderful news: Over and over and over the media and deadend leftists claim that Democrats are beholden to queer people and pandering to them, yet over and over and over we get the above as the true reminder of our place.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread

I rarely if ever am on at the right time to see these, but it would be interesting to hear Carolyn talk about her time at ATWT, which was entirely dominated by the writers strike, and Kristen to talk about her departure from GL and OLTL (wasn't she fired both times?). Kristen was incredibly special as Morgan - she really carried a great deal of Morgan's story on her back and that did not become clear until after her departure.- The Politics Thread
They aren't asking because he's doing what they want. They hate Democrats and they want Republicans to have a big comeback. Even better, Manchin is setting terms they eat up with relish - they can just blame Democrats for not being bipartisan enough, which they tried to make into an issue with Biden for months. It's a win-win because there really is no idea to what Manchin even wants. He just says "bipartisan" and then walks away. He doesn't want to actually do anything because he doesn't have to - he's rich, he's bought and paid for, and he knows he is likely in his last term. McConnell is now attacking Biden for not being bipartisan enough, and Manchin's games are helping people to believe this. McConnell is now flat-out saying there will be no John Lewis Act, and you can bet Manchin will, in a day, or a week, or a month, blame Biden and Democrats for not being bipartisan enough to get it passed. A lot of leftists are saying that Manchin is just a "rotating villain" Democrats are throwing out into the public eye so they won't have to do anything. To be honest I've heard enough about uneasiness with HR1 to think that could be true on voting rights, but it's obviously not true on infrastructure. Yet thanks to Manchin, not to mention Merrick Garland, many are likely to believe Biden really does not want anything to change, and are more likely to be demoralized.- The Politics Thread
This is exactly what I saw some worrying about when Garland was chosen for this position. Biden having to then come out and say he doesn't agree just gives the impression that no one in charge.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread
Yes, Mary joined in fall 1996, two years after Patrick left. She may not have been a heavy presence, but she was there off and on for the last five years of her life (and toward the end was probably more active as Meta than she'd ever been). It's sad to think people are still trying to play those games over a ham who hasn't bothered to give a good performance in over 20 years, but that's the death of daytime for you. The most active I am in any soap Twitter realm is probably AW, which doesn't seem to be as toxic. I grew up watching Peter Simon and I still think highly of his work but even I'd say Mart Hulswit was more suited to the role.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread
I suppose a great deal of this is down to Mulcahey's own soap work. He wrote for Justin Deas for years, on two soaps, and it was obvious that those at GL absolutely adored Deas (including his co-stars). He also wrote for Peter Simon for years, which is the only way I can see someone saying Mart Hulswit does not even deserve to be used as a photo for Ed.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
Pam Long wrote the Philip reveal. Marland did further stretch the story out from the original material the Dobsons provided. I'm not sure I've ever seen a fan of theirs. Rumor is they were paired mostly because Lisa and Larry were together in real life at the time. The only interesting part is Emma's very hurt and bitter reaction, which is also another glimpse into Marland's increasingly dark (and for me more compelling) writing.- The Politics Thread
One of the things that bothers me about this is if he and Sinema are taking so much focus on how they oppose the filibuster and oppose legislation which is not completely bipartisan, then bringing these bills up for a vote will mean voters can't see that it's mostly Republicans who are blocking them. They are more likely to just say even Democrats in the Senate aren't going along, so it's a waste of time. At this point I'm not even sure what Manchin actually wants to do, beyond getting attention, but I see that another 'bipartisan' infrastructure offer is going around so we'll see what happens. - The Politics Thread
