  1. You have to bleep "crap"? Too bad they can't bleep Sherri from ever speaking...

  5. I've seen the 1961 and 1963 episodes, too bad the 1979 one isn't available elsewhere. I'd love to see Maureen on my TV again. You'd think all these "edgy" new cable shows on HBO or FX would snap her up.
  6. Seeing the early episodes would be interesting, especially since the only one of those characters who lasted a while was the pastor.
  7. It's annoying that she never got to be Mindy or Tina. Paulina was an exhausting character to watch when Judi played her, at least in the last few years. The first few years I've seen of her she seems a little bland. The later stuff was superbly acted but I felt like they got so far from the initial concept of the character. At least Culliton brought back her old foster sister and had her return to her old haunts, to remind viewers of the painful life she'd had.
  8. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. I don't know a lot about these characters, aside from Pat and Mary of course. I wonder if Laura and Ken were supposed to be long term characters or just for this story. Some 1999 episodes are being uploaded. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rH8nONSp1mI&list=UU7R6xujViNo72FeVvDU4HUA&index=3&feature=plcp http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkQlmeI22Ro&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mzq8V6wwzdE&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL
  9. Reading about Krista Tesreau's casting as Tina (with OLTL's casting person saying Tina was so much like Mindy...um...no, she wasn't), they mention Crystal Carson as someone else who tested for the role.
  10. I think O'Shea came and went but I believe her tenure was mostly around early 1985-late 1987? Schnessel was early or mid 1998 to early to mid 1990.

  12. I think she did try for more balance, it's just that a lot of the others who were written for weren't all that interesting (like the O'Neill family, or Jon/Cassie).
  13. I don't think Badderly was Schnessel. I really think there is a big difference in quality from Schnessel's run to mid-90/early 91 (Rauch's end). I mostly base it on the writing for Gabrielle, but even beyond that, like the tedious Charlotte story, Johnny Dee/Tina, et al. From what I've seen of that time the only story which really gathers my interest is Viki's stroke. I actually think Faux Bo is kind of a fun little story, at least from the clips I've seen. The only part I find distasteful is Tina/"Bo", and then Tina being pregnant with his baby and going out the lighthouse window. 1888 I also enjoy, just for cheese and for some great acting from Clint Ritchie and Erika Slezak. It may have run too long but was a nice set piece. I think even with O'Shea, the show still had its flaws - look at the waste of Dorian, and the issues with the Sanders family. Ultimately Rauch was such a dominating producer that his way ruled, even if it hurt the show. I think Schnessel managed to work well within Rauch's scope. I do agree O'Shea was better though, and her pacing was pitch-perfect. As for Michael's murder - Brenda was supposed to be the killer. At the last minute they chose Roger instead, which is why he wasn't even on the SOD cover. I don't think anyone cared for the rewrite, but then I'm not sure anyone liked the story in the first place.
  14. I don't think anything on the show has been classic since about 1995 or so, I just post a lot of different stuff about the shows in these threads, for those who may have enjoyed these periods.
  15. I was reading a Digest issue from 1994 or so and they said people were writing in complaining about Nikki doing needlepoint and about how dull her life had become that she was doing needlepoint. Do you remember this? I wasn't watching every day so I must have missed it.
  16. I think the changes they made in Matt for the story made Krause worse. Matt wasn't much of a character - Matt Crane was probably the only thing about him viewers cared about.
  17. I always get confused about Dixie's accent. I swear it's still around when she learns Jamie is Tad's son. Yet it seems to be gone within a year or so after this.
  18. Her acting has been much more shrill and OTT on Y&R. That and they made the mistake of throwing her with various men, when Liz has anti-chemistry with men. As you said, they said one thing and wrote another, especially since Cady wanted tougher material. The Dixie of 2006 just felt isolated and needless. I think the last few years of her 98-02 stint were similar. One problem is that the era of AMC which Dixie thrived in were gone, and so was that era of the Martin family. By the late 90's they'd become very judgmental, hard, cold, and I no longer saw what kept Tad/Dixie together.
  19. Was this before the takeover story (perhaps not since Jake is a pariah). I remember Lorna's later, glam look. I guess JFP gave her a makeover. I always associate Amanda with so many hair colors but I guess to longtime viewers she should have been brunette. I know Reinhardt started dyeing her hair to browner shades in her last months on the show - was that to ease a transition to Tucci or did she just want to change her hair?
  20. Watching these 1994 episodes, I can kind of see why Christine Tucci was fired - she seems drab, no real spark, which I felt with Sandra Reinhardt and even poor Laura Moss. I was struck by how much RC's Lorna was styled like Frankie. Nice to see some of Cass' manic depression story. Grayson McCouch seems very wet. I just have never gotten him. I always enjoy seeing Colleen Dion but can't say I love Brett here. I guess this is right before Jensen quit. The show seems OK at this time - not fantastic, but good solid soap. Charles Keating also seems to be a little more restrained. I guess it tells you of the importance of Ada that they needed to bring in a variation of her (although the real Ada never would have approved of Carl/Rachel). I like Sloan Shelton. I have no idea why they didn't have her pop into ATWT at this point.
