  1. From what I remember, the recaps are unbiased - it's hard to say what is accurate because most of us haven't seen the 60's or 70's material. The sections on characters generally tried to focus on as many past names as possible - there was more attention paid to popular characters of the past, but nothing which seemed like an agenda. All the Gary Warner books seemed very similar, right down to the personal anecdotes which always ended in "cute" quips and exclamation points (I guess you could say I had one life to live!), but they were very professionally done, very classy and informative.

  4. Incredibly, yes. I think it was Jerry and 99% gone Denise Pence.
  5. I meant that I thought they may have tuned out a little earlier, as the general idea is the show peaked around summer or fall of 1984. At first I thought it was some version of a cult tattoo or something.
  6. I was also going to ask what that symbol is Beth was pasting on the walls?
  7. That's a beautiful photo - I love the little bow on her necklace. I have a photo of her in these years holding a cat - if you don't have it let me know and I'll put it up.
  8. I'm surprised they lasted that long on the dorm TV, although GH wasn't in great shape at this time either. It's too bad they didn't pull themselves back together for several more years. What did you think of this Ed? I think RvV is a good actor, but these stories are just so absurd. I guess at least he got to play a lot of material...I think when Peter Simon returned Ed was backburnered for 2-3 years.
  9. At times I feel like Stephen Schnessel (?) was the main person who "got" Gabrielle. She had some extremely complex, strong writing in 88-89 which Fiona played beautifully. After this Gabrielle seemed to start going way off track as a character - for instance, the idea of her pursuing Cord, then sabotaging Max's newspaper business, and other stunts. I guess this wasn't any more ludicrous than the time she spent with Michael Grande wearing Dial H for Hero outfits, but it seemed like around 1990 her stories became more and more about plot. I do wonder what Gottlieb/Malone would have done with her - there was no one like her on the show at that time. It's like one part of her character went to Mia Korf's Blair and the other part went to Alex.

  11. If you get a chance you should watch those fall 1985 clips - everything surrounding the video shoot is insane, especially the costumes, and the long stretches of time devoted to montages with music that sounds like it came from the Sunshine Factory. The hilarious parody of a choreographer, who is then thrown into a wheelie bin and rolled down the street for no good reason. Beth as a spy, falling out of her top. I have no idea what GL was doing at this time. They should have made Mindy/Roxie a couple.
  12. The first was Mctavish yes. I think these big events mostly worked when there was a good reason for them.
  13. At the time I thought most of the Crystal Balls were just kind of dull - I liked the first one, when Dimitri had a total breakdown and a tree branch fell on him, or whatever, but the rest didn't do a lot for me. Even the wardrobe was so sleepy...I think the only one allowed to wear color was Opal.
  14. Thanks for the extra details. So at this time, did viewers know Phillip was obsessed, or did they see him as viewers did? What eventually happened to Liz? I guess Althea lost her baby.
  15. Thanks for telling us about this. I'd heard of this but didn't know there was commentary.
  16. This sounds like good stuff. Her DAYS character often seemed to be out of control of much of her life, from what I've read. This sounds more like the character she played on WKRP. Who was she involved with romantically on this show?

  19. I think she was very good as Margo in those first few years, with toughness as well as humor. After that, not so much. I also think she sort of fits the profile of Maureen, and I can't see Ellen Parker meshing well with this Ed - I also couldn't believe Parker with Fletcher. Ellen Parker made Maureen the heart of the show and was so warm and loving, but actually that doesn't fit anything Ed ever wanted in a woman. This Maureen is more along the lines of all the other women he loved. With Ellen Parker I just always felt like she deserved better than Ed.
