  2. I wish the voices didn't have to sound so overprocessed today, but the song is catchy as it goes along. I enjoy all the self-parody elements (and all that with the breast feeding, which was probably done just to get some tongues clucking). The best part is when they're in the white dresses and I'm Breathless hair.
  3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nLhA7CVIok http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgIvUjCrlgY It's interesting reading some of the comments about her, as they said she was very ahead of her time for female skaters.

  5. I'd really love to hear more from people who were watching then. It's one of the reasons I enjoy reading saynotoursoap, and denzo, and others. It's one of the reasons I miss SteveFrame. It would be fun to ask anyone here when they first started watching AW, and what their first memories of the show are. I didn't actually start watching until late 1996 or early 1997. I mostly remember the Grant/Cindy institution follies. Then I got into the older years, thanks to tapes.
  6. If you get Cinemax, Sandra Reinhardt's episode of Hot Line is coming on tonight.
  7. He looks about the same to me, aside from the hair.
  8. True, but starting somewhere in 1994 they seemed isolated from each other in scenes and Corvina had more of an adversarial role, which doesn't work that well in the scenes I've watched.
  9. I think the show was unwatchable for most of Santer's era - just plot plot plot and most of that plot made everyone involved look horrible. I think the structure of Eastenders in recent years has just made it very difficult to have strong quality. It's the nature of all British soaps now - Emmerdale and Corrie are disgusting and offensive, as is Hollyoaks. I think Eastenders is more capable of some standout moments than these three, and it's not sending messages that domestic violence is sexy or that women ask to be raped. The Kirkwood bashing started before he ever made any story or casting decision. That is why I will never agree with the stuff about him. I have my own issues with him as a producer based on Hollyoaks, but the level of bile against him as a person as well as a producer has been OTT from the day his name was announced.

  11. I wonder if this exhausted viewers at the time... I haven't seen enough of Helga to say but I wish she or Corvina had a bit more "pop." I don't think Erica had a strong enough adversary in these years. I guess the closest would be Maria starting around 1995, but she wasn't supposed to be an adversary, and I thought she was a sanctimonious hypocrite.

  13. Do you think Julia suffered as a character after Lane left?
  14. I like this too. I wonder why this costume was banned. Why was it shocking?
  15. I know people who have watched just about every major ice skating event for their entire life - what is it about ice skating that appeals to you? I'm not quite that interested, but I think that might be down to the days when annoying Nancy Kerrigan was in the headlines constantly. I was watching this and was so drawn in by the beauty and power. It's one of the first times I've "gotten" what it must feel like to enjoy this.
  16. He's been an easy target from the time he joined. At the time it almost seemed like some deliberate campaign. It's all about PR. Collinson, or the late Gavin Blyth, were good at shilling, and this hid the many flaws in their work.
  17. This article talks about Romney's programs and how they'd affect the poor. http://www.tnr.com/blog/jonathan-cohn/100306/romney-not-concerned-very-poor-safety-net-middle-class

  19. I saw her on Ghost Whisperer a few years ago and she looked so badly butchered.
  20. I wonder if she will have the Vic again. Will Kat be gone by then? I read Kat is going for 2-3 months?
  21. When I first started reading about AMC I got 91-93 so confused. For some time I thought Helga and Kendall worked together and locked Bianca in a crypt.
  22. Sonny Sprocket is one of those things I've heard about but never watched. I always thought it was popular but I can see how it would grate.
  23. Helga always seems much more low-key than I was expecting. I think I had conjured up a vision of Frau Blucher.
  24. Most of that is being cut (especially on state levels), or the GOP have announced plans to cut it. Similar to unemployment benefits. I haven't heard Romney speaking out against this. His healthcare plans would also mean more cuts to the poor. The GOP has said the social safety net just enables poverty. Gingrich wants to have poor children work as janitors for that reason. I haven't heard Romney criticize that either.
  25. Calhoun seems like an interesting personality...some actors like HSB seemed to work well with him. Tonya Pinkins had a bad experience with him. (I think it was him - she said ATWT's producer at the time she was fired).
