Whitney Houston dead at 48!
Those rumors also swirl around Mariah, who seems to have been Whitney's successor in many ways (good and bad...). I wish people would turn down that cesspit.

Whitney Houston dead at 48!
At her peak, Whitney wasn't just a singer, or a star, she was a phenomenon. She effortlessly conquered music, movies, and TV (with Cinderella). She dominated the mid 80's to mid 90's. It was quite sad how she became a national joke, and then, an unspoken, bad memory. There were rumors for years about why she got together with Bobby Brown, and why this was needed for her image. Ultimately this destroyed her. I don't care how white it may have sounded, I think her first album has some songs which are utter perfection. This is my favorite. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewxmv2tyeRs&ob=av3e

From a February 1991 Digest. Liz Hubbard later complained about these. I wish I could see them.

Thanks for the article. It's always interesting to see what happens to actors after they leave soaps. I hope she doesn't read the comments of the article...

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
I thought Lynne was a misery and I felt sorry for Garry but this time I did pity her, mostly because she realized she was leaving one hell for another, and yet was still in hell at the end. This was also the days of Anthony/Zoe, although fortunately they were only in one scene. Paul had a girlfriend who was threatened by her crimelord boyfriend (Goldie, who was voted first off Strictly Come Dancing a few years ago) into leaving Paul. Silly and not very well acted stuff, although Paul did a good job. He was underappreciated.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
I was watching an episode from July 2002, and Lynne almost left Garry, for some old love. Garry didn't even let her say goodbye, as he was too busy drinking beer and watching football. There was a very good, sobering scene when she went to meet her boyfriend before they ran off, and he sat down to drink a beer and watch football. Lynne had left a note for Garry in the fridge, with his beer. She decided she didn't want to be with her old love and went back home. To her relief, the note had fallen under the fridge. But then at the end, Garry was still ignoring her, still interested only in his game, and she still felt deflated and alone. This was such a very stark scene, and far more adult than most soap. Strangely enough, her ex was played by the guy who was the father on the first season of Sarah Jane Adventures. Did Garry ever find out? This also had Phil manipulating Lisa as she was in a loveless marriage to Mark. Ugh. I always felt a little sorry for Lisa but that type of thing was just impossible to watch.

I think Pat was so tied in to the Evans family they didn't know how to give her a story with anyone else.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread

To me, although I haven't really seen anywhere enough to say, the show lost that vibe when they dumped Broderick after 1988. The 1989 episodes I've seen (again, few and far between) are, in some ways, quite shocking and alien. I think McTavish had a lot of ridiculous stuff and too much shock value, too much short term (like Will raping Gloria, Will being murdered), but I think it still manages to have something of a sense of AMC.- All My Children Tribute Thread
Would you say this was that much more sensationalistic than the stuff with Silver stalking her and Natalie and Palmer putting Silver in a toy chest, or that weird stuff with Marissa Rampal? Could you also say the character lost most of her individuality after the rape story?- One Life to Live Tribute Thread

Watching this 1991 episode I'm reminded again of just how well Y&R and Victoria Rowell managed to give Dru some unique flair without seeming overly forced, or turning her into Wilona from Good Times. At the time this may have even seemed forced, or dated. Now it's sadly ahead of its time. My dislike for Neil/preferring Dru when Neil wasn't around also hasn't changed, apparently. At least the stuff with Olivia was winding down. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCtIR3An3jg&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5hf4_tk0GM&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSNHUop0eX4&feature=autoplay&list=ULP5hf4_tk0GM&lf=mfu_in_order&playnext=2- The Politics Thread
So that means he's going to ban women from voting, which is one of Ann's goals (she really does say that)? Considering how that party hates women today, I'm not too surprised. He also says he stopped Massachusetts from being the "Las Vegas of gay marriage." I guess he believes Connecticut must be some Sodom gone wild.- The Politics Thread
Hahaha, Mitt says he is "severely conservative." That makes it sound like a disease. http://www.businessweek.com/news/2012-02-10/romney-fending-off-rivals-calls-himself-severely-conservative-.html - EastEnders: Discussion Thread
