  1. Networks don't necessarily alert their shows of scheduling changes that far in advance, particularly daytime. When I first learned of the UEFA scheduling issue in February it wasn't too far off from when the soaps did as well. I believe only "The Talk" had some advance notice, but not by much.
  2. True. Thanks for the reminder. Let's just hope the ending is tight and leaves no loose ends. Glad to see the original Next Generation cast on all at one time. That's the Trek I grew up with and have always loved above all.
  3. Got the PR and scratched my head which is why I'm of the concerned category. Every time a streamer calls a show a "hit" and it ends with just three seasons I question that word time and time again. Even if the series ender is a fitting end, you don't just end a hit show with just 30 episodes. Other than a streamer where else can it thrive? Who says streaming will be the thing it is today in 10 years? Owning your own property is only good when it comes to sign ups but then you hit a plateau which is what is happening to Netflix now.
  4. When you put it like that, yeah, this is a dumb as hell plot point. How can one kill their own child, however unintentional it was just because you re-labeled a bottle? Plus, just because Brooke didn't know she was drinking alcohol initially doesn't mean any real alcoholic or even passive drinker can't tell when they are drinking something with liquor in it and when they aren't. She tasted it and continued drinking because she liked the taste. In the real world she would have stopped and probably sued the manufacturer for selling actual booze. She would have lost and probably would have gotten counter sued which would have caused her havoc in that regard but to have this be the outcome. Yeah, no. This story is dumb as hell. Dumb as hell.
  5. April feels like one big Fool's Day, IMO.
  6. Someone (not me) has an exclusive about something and when they reveal it we'll talk about it.
  7. For this thread, can we start including citations? While it's great to hear these details it's not possible for everything to be considered "true" if there is no source or link to back up claims. Thank you!
  8. I think I figured out the secret. I think some of you called it but I believe the producers are right in that it hasn’t been done in daytime before. It’s a wild twist. Actually very intriguing. AND it makes sense why the show is dark for the next two weeks. This way the actors won’t be commenting on the story when the twist is finally revealed since they’re on vacation right now.
  9. UPDATE: On the same day CBS Media Ventures announced the renewal of “The Drew Barrymore Show” for a third season, the syndication arm of Paramount Global is reportedly mulling a decision on the future of "The Doctors" which has been a syndication staple since its debut 14 seasons ago. Meanwhile, sources tell Soap Opera Network that despite an earlier report by Deadline, the future of "DailyMailTV" will not be decided by CMV which distributes the show nationally. In fact, neither series has been officially canceled. In its updated report, Deadline notes that executives at “DailyMailTV” are in the midst of deciding whether to continue with the show for a sixth season. Hosted by Thomas Roberts with Alicia Quarles serving as Senior News Correspondent, the daily syndicated newsmagazine from Stage 29 Productions brings the best of the world’s most popular newspaper website, DailyMail.com to life on television with exclusive stories to breaking news, showbiz, crime, health, science and technology. The series launched in 2017 and at the time was the highest-rated national debut of any syndicated newsmagazine since 2007. The show won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Entertainment News Program in 2019 “The Doctors” premiered in 2008 and is hosted by board-certified plastic surgeon and series veteran Dr. Andrew Ordon. The hour-long syndicated program returned to the studio this season with the theme “A Prescription For A Better You,” designed to inspire and empower viewers to take control of their health and wellness. The show won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Show/Informative in 2010, receiving six additional nominations in the category. Also from Stage 29 Productions, the show is distributed by CMV with Jay McGraw, Carla Pennington, Patricia Ciano and Dr. Phillip C. McGraw serving as executive producers. Both McGraw’s and Pennington also serve as EPs on “The Doctors,” among a host of others. During the week of March 14-18, 2022, the most week recent in which syndication ratings are available, “The Doctors” averaged a mere 0.2 household rating, ranking last among all daytime talk shows (out of 15 shows) while “DailyMailTV” averaged a 0.5 household rating among magazine shows. Of the seven shows, “DailyMailTV” only outranks “Dish Nation” in households. In recent weeks, syndication has seen the cancellations of “The Nick Cannon Show,” “The Good Dish,” “Maury0” and “Judge Jerry.” Rumored to also be exiting the market is “The Real” from Warner Bros. Domestic Television. Note: The post REPORT: ‘The Doctors’ and ‘DailyMailTV’ Likely Next to Be Canceled appeared first on the Soap Opera Network website. Read More
  10. CBS will once again preempt its daytime lineup, particularly on the West Coast, over four non-consecutive days for live coverage of “UEFA Champions League” games beginning Tuesday, April 5 and Wednesday, April 6; and again on Tuesday, April 12 and Wednesday, April 13. The preemptions will primarily impact the West Coast airings of “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful” while “Let’s Make a Deal” will be impacted in markets where it is regularly scheduled to air after “The Talk.” The daytime talk show will not broadcast on either coast on the aforementioned dates as it is preempted nationally. Only “The Price is Right” will air uninterrupted. The games will begin at 3:00 p.m. ET on CBS and via streaming service Paramount+ with each showing different teams playing in the competition. A pre-game show, “UEFA Champions League Today,” will air at 2:00 p.m. ET in place of “The Talk” which will be fully preempted. Viewers living in markets impacted by the preemptions can keep up with the latest episodes which will be made available on the CBS App, CBS.com, and Paramount+, or check local listings for overnight airings. Photo by Kovop58/Shutterstock Ratings for the games thus far have proven to be unspectacular for CBS with the first four games attracting less than one million viewers on either day, a far cry from the average watching CBS’ regularly scheduled programming. What follows is a list of dates CBS daytime programming will be preempted or aired overnight in the Mountain and Pacific markets (check local listings). Tuesday, April 5 – Manchester vs Atlético MadridWednesday, April 6 – Chelsea vs Real MadridTuesday, April 5 – TBAWednesday, April 6 – TBA “UEFA Champions League” is an annual competition organized by the Union of European Football Associations as the remaining top 16 clubs in the European tournament each vie for the Coupe des Clubs Champions Européens (aka European Cup) trophy. 11. “The Drew Barrymore Show” has been picked up for a third season which will air during the 2022-2023 television season, producer CBS Media Ventures announced today. Stations owned by CBS, Sinclair, Nexstar, Gray, Scripps, Tegna and Weigel were among those signing on for another season of the daytime talk show which is confirmed to reimagine the traditional daytime format with producing and distributing the show as two half-hour episodes that can seamlessly run together back-to-back or be split apart to air separately. “I am honored and grateful but I also want to take this show higher and continue to innovate and be a game changer in the daytime space,” said the show’s host, Drew Barrymore. “Rising to the occasion of finding people in the diverse way they watch is what I want to challenge myself with. Our show wants to be a bright spot not a blind spot and we just want to make people feel good. And I thank all the people who helped us get here.” Currently airing at 9:00 a.m. on most CBS stations, the show will shift to 9:30 a.m. for its third season which will follow new half-hour local newscasts which will air at 9:00 a.m. CBS Stations will also have the flexibility to air both half-hours of “Drew” on its duopoly stations in markets where the Company owns two stations (ie. CBS-owned WCBS and WLNY in New York). CBS currently offers a similar half-hour block format on Sundays for “Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan.” The public affairs program which currently ranks number one for the season among Total Viewers (ahead of rivals “Meet the Press” and “This Week”) airs nationally as a half-hour program with many CBS stations choosing not to air the second half-hour due to other scheduling commitments. The full hour is available in top markets such as New York and Los Angeles and can also be viewed in its entirety via CBSNews.com or Paramount+. “Stations have always had a finite amount of shelf space, so we’re evolving the syndication model to meet the needs of our partners,” said Steve LoCascio, President of CBS Media Ventures. “We could not be happier to continue our relationship with CBS Stations and our other station partners to deliver more of ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’ through this innovative new idea. From Drew’s unique take on everyday news to headline-generating celebrity interviews to lifestyle how-tos, Drew is a force of nature who has brought a fresh optimistic viewpoint to daytime television. We love having her as part of the CBS family.” Photo by Ben Watts/CBS Media Ventures “We love the idea of creating a seamless flow of exquisite storytelling from the final hour of ‘CBS Mornings’ to a new half-hour of local news on our CBS Stations as we lead into the distinctive approach to the topics of the day and breath of fresh air that Drew Barrymore provides,” said Wendy McMahon, President and Co-Head of CBS News and Stations. “We very much appreciate our CBS Media Ventures colleagues’ willingness to help us reimagine how we schedule programming on our stations. This collaboration allows us to embrace the opportunity for the growing demand for local news in the communities we serve while also continuing to support a show that is delivering its strongest quarterly performance to date on our stations and is a cherished programming asset for our Company.” CBS notes that the launch of local 9:00 a.m. newscasts on Company-owned CBS stations represents another example of CBS News and Stations’ commitment to expanding local news programming across its stations. In January, CBS News and Stations announced the creation of a local news innovation lab in Dallas-Fort Worth that will support the launch and production of hybrid, local-to-national multiplatform newscasts for several of the Company’s CW and independent stations. Nationally, “The Drew Barrymore Show” is the fastest growing daytime talk show, and one of only two shows in the genre to gain total viewers year to year. It is also syndication’s fastest-growing strip, up by +4% in February 2022 over its February 2021 performance. On CBS-owned stations, “The Drew Barrymore Show” grew +11% in total viewers in the first quarter of 2022 vs. first quarter of 2021, delivering its highest quarterly performance ever, and had strong growth in the top 5 markets. The show also delivered its highest quarterly performance on CBS-owned stations in women 25-54, up +12% in the first quarter of 2022 vs. first quarter 2021. Carrying out her totally crazy scheme to hook up with him before the senior class trip ends, things start to spiral when her obsession gets out of control. The movie also stars Valerie Azlynn (“Sullivan & Son”), Kylee Russell (“Zombies: Addison’s Monster Mystery”), Lisa Yamada (“All of Us Are Dead”), Meg Wright (“Jeepers Creepers III”) and Bailey Stender (“Pop Music High”). 13. As previously reported, former “General Hospital” star Max Gail (ex-Mike Corbin) will be appearing in the Friday, April 1 episode of CBS’ “Magnum P.I.” The actor will portray Bob Braddock, a terminally ill veteran who bonds with Magnum (Jay Hernandez) while the investigator is volunteering at the No Veteran Dies Alone Program. In the episode, entitled “Remember Me Tomorrow,” Magnum hopes to reunite Bob with his estranged family. Meanwhile, Higgins (Perdita Weeks) finds herself in a complicated situation when 12-year-old Ella (Hala Finley) asks for help cracking a triple homicide that involves her mother. In a first look preview (shown below), watch as Bob gets into a disagreement with his nurse over the plant-based food she’s giving him to eat. He tells her, “Lady, I’m gonna be dead before this comes out the other end.” Enter Magnum, who, after knocking on Bob’s door, introduces himself as a rep from the We Honor Vets/No Veteran Dies Alone program. Bob isn’t too happy to hear from him as he didn’t sign up for the program and wants nothing to do with the program regardless of who did. Check out Gail with “Magnum” star Jay Hernandez in the video clip below. “Magnum P.I.” airs Fridays at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on CBS. Max Gail, Jay Hernandez (“Magnum P.I.”) Photo by Zack Dougan/CBS Gail exited “General Hospital” in September 2020 after his character died from a battle with Alzheimer’s. The actor has subsequently appeared on multiple occasions throughout 2021 as a ghost version of the character, appearing before his son, Sonny (Maurice Benard), and others during their time of need. Earlier this year, Gail guest-starred in an episode of “Chicago Med.” Gail took home the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of Mike Corbin on “General Hospital” in 2019 and 2021, respectively. 14. This video makes me wish for the days of soaps having a bad boy type who plays with the women in town while being the preppy rich boy, and the popular girl who holds power over him.
  15. Stick to the topic, please. Personally issues should stay off board and elsewhere, preferably. We welcome all posters.
  16. Well, it's been two years since they adopted that portion of the name since the show debuted exactly two years ago last week. The got rid of "Pandemic" in the title in June of 2020. So, maybe we'll see them drop the longer title by then, if we're lucky? Either way, looks like news and talk are taking a hit right now particularly the daytime shows. Cable is thriving.
  17. Fans of “General Hospital” star Maurice Benard will get a double helping of the actor when he appears on both the daytime drama series as Sonny Corinthos and its lead-in “GMA3: What You Need to Know” as himself on Wednesday, March 30. The actor and author (“Nothing General About It: How Love (and Lithium) Saved Me On and Off General Hospital”) will be discussing mental health, bipolar, anxiety and depression, among other topics. In a video teasing his appearance, Benard notes he’ll also be talking about his YouTube series “MB: State of Mind” which features co-star Kirsten Storms (Maxie Jones) in the Sunday, April 3 episode. Additionally, he expects to be discussing his current storyline involving the triangle between Carly (Laura Wright), Sonny and Nina (Cynthia Watros). In addition to Benard, look for New York City Department of Health Commissioner Dr. Ashwin Vasan; actress Jamie Lee Curtis and co-author Barney Saltzberg (“What Do You See?”); and Deals and Steals with ABC e-commerce editor Tory Johnson. Note: A rep for ABC News confirms that Benard’s appearance will air during “GMA3” and not “Good Morning America” as referenced in the video below. “GMA3: What You Need to Know” airs Weekdays at 1:00 p.m. ET/12:00 p.m. PT on ABC, immediately preceding “General Hospital.” Note: The post Maurice Benard to Appear on ‘GMA3: What You Need to Know’ appeared first on the Soap Opera Network website. 18. This! They should have just gone with launching only one of the soaps instead of both. However, that would have likely meant ABC would have regained the rights back to the unproduced soap sooner. IMO, "All My Children" had its ish together even though it took a minute to hit the root storylines. "One Life to Live" was a mess.
  19. Agreed. Unfortunately, they allegedly never made any money off of the shows because the blew through that $25 million they got from ABRY without ever receiving any additional funding from another source. Allegedly, that's why they sought to sue ABC because then they could recoup some of the money they had to pay ABC for licensing characters. Again, allegedly.
  20. After a steep fall one week earlier, both half hours of “The Price is Right” bounced back during the week of March 21-25, 2022 to hit five-week highs in Total Viewers, Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 rating (since the week of February 21-25, 2022). Leading the pack was the second half-hour of the game show (4.677 million) followed by the first half-hour (4.105 million) in second place. “The Young and the Restless” (3.403 million) gained just 1,000 viewers week to week to place third while the second half-hour of “Let’s Make a Deal” placed fourth with 2.887 million viewers. Rounding out the top five, placing fifth, “The Bold and the Beautiful” (2.736 million) fell the hardest of any daytime broadcast series week to week in Total Viewers, down -111,000. Tying “TODAY 3rd Hour” in Women 18-49 the previous week, “Y&R” held sole possession of the third place position in the demo (0.39 rating, +0.02) and also placed third in Women 25-54 (0.61 rating, -0.01). Ranking seventh in Women 18-49 (0.31 rating, -0.04) and sixth in Women 25-54 (0.47, -0.10), “B&B” again fell the most week to week in both demographics. “The View” (0.29, -0.01) was the only other daytime broadcast series to fall week to week in Women 18-49. Other shows falling in Women 25-54 week to week were “Y&R” (0.61, -0.01), “General Hospital” (0.42, -0.04), “The View” (0.37, -0.04) and “GMA3: What You Need to Know” (0.30, -0.05). “The Talk” again ranked last among all daytime broadcast series in Women 18-49 rating, up +0.01 week to week (0.22 vs 0.21) while “GMA3” ranked last in Women 25-54 rating. “The Talk” gained viewers week to week, up +40,000 viewers while “GMA3” was down, losing -85,000 viewers week to week. “Days of our Lives” beat “The View” in Women 25-54, placing 10th in the demo with the talk show falling to 11th place. “DAYS” was up +0.01 in the demo and also gained +9,000 viewers week to week (1.623 million vs 1.614 million). Viewing levels were hitting multi-year highs in 2020 during the initial shutdown of the country due to COVID-19. That being said, all shows are also down significantly compared to their 2019 figures with the exception of “GH” among Total Viewers. During the comparable week in 2019, “GH” averaged 2.288 million viewers, a difference of just 171,000 viewers. Note: Year to Year comparisons are currently unavailable due to a gap in data received by Soap Opera Network one year earlier. Demographic comparisons to 2021 figures will return next week and Total Viewers and Households will return in a few weeks. Comparable 2020 figures for “GMA3: What Need to Know” are based on the performance of “Pandemic: What You Need to Know.” The current iteration was rebranded effective June 2020. “The Talk” was not rated by Nielsen during the comparable week in 2020. 22. Roman Polanski may have been expelled by the Academy in 2018 but he was awarded an Oscar in 2003. He had already fled the country after pleading guilty to rape of a minor in the 1970s. He also had other accusations against him from that period.
  23. Daytime newcomer Michael Blake Kruse has joined the cast of “General Hospital” in the newly created role of Rory, a rep for the soap has confirmed to Soap Opera Network. Rory is a new recruit at the Port Charles Police Department (PCPD). While a first airdate has not been announced, Kruse recently revealed on his website that he begins a “recurring role in a long-runny, Emmy award-winning television series” in March. Reportedly, Kruse is on contract with the soap, however, the show does not comment on actor contracts. In addition to “GH,” Kruse’s other acting credits include a guest-starring role on “Grey’s Anatomy” for ABC and appearances in episodes of “Criminal Minds” for CBS and “Strange Angel” for CBS All Access (now Paramount+), among others. He’s also had a supporting role in several Lifetime movies, including “Dead in the Water,” “The Ugly Christmas Sweater” and “Christmas Harmony.” The actor/model has appeared in several commercial and print spots for Lexus, Amazon, Sony Playstation, McDonald’s and EA Sports, among a multitude of other brands. He also did voice work for the Netflix series “Control Z.” He recently wrapped filming on an unknown studio film. “I’m low on the totem pole and out of the loop but I believe this was my last day working on this film,” said Kruse on Instagram last week. “It took nearly 15 years before actually landing a role on a studio feature. All of my terrible auditions were worth this experience. I pray my work serves this project – and makes the cut. I can’t wait to share it with everyone.” Soap Opera Digest first reported Kruse’s casting. 24. Tabyana Ali made her daytime debut on the Friday, March 25 episode of “General Hospital” as Trina Robinson. She replaced Sydney Mikayla in the role and is appearing on contract with the soap. In her first scenes, Ali interacted with Brook Kerr who plays Trina’s mom, Portia, and Réal Andrews who plays Trina’s dad, Marcus Taggert. Moments before Trina appeared on screen as played by Ali, Portia and Taggert were discussing the recent Josslyn (Eden McCoy) and Cameron (William Lipton) drama and whether it was a “sex tape” or “revenge porn.” In reality, they were most concerned about their daughter being accused by Esme (Avery Kristen Pohl) of being the one to not only film the video itself but to also have been the one to share it on social media. The accusation has caused a rift between Trina and her friends. Cameron and Josslyn have since filed a police report on the matter with the hope that the person responsible gets caught. Considering Esme is the one behind everything, it’s only a matter of time before she gets found out, or, if she covered her tracks right, the wrong person will take the fall from a legal perspective, too. In follow-up scenes, Trina walks into class at PCU (Port Charles University) where Josslyn and Cameron had been conversing. After exchanging a few words, the group hugs it out before Cameron leaves to give Trina and Josslyn some time alone to talk. During their conversation, Josslyn reassures Trina that she doesn’t blame her for anything and they both know that Esme is behind everything. While she’s not sure if Esme intended to film her and Cameron having sex, Josslyn is sure that Esme ultimately wanted to draw a wedge between her and Trina. Sadly, by the episode’s end, Trina and Josslyn are interrupted by Commissioner Ashford (Tanisha Ashford) who tells Trina she’d like to have her come in for questioning over the tape after she received a tip that could place Trina as the culprit. In an Instagram story, Ali was asked what it was like shooting her first scenes with Kerr and Andrews. She said, “It was amazing! They honestly made it so easy for me! I always enjoy working with them.” Asked if she was nervous at all, Ali said, “Of course! But it was the ‘GH’ cast and crew that made me feel at ease!” Watch some of Ali’s first scenes below and let us know what you think of the storyline in the comments. 25. If you tuned into the Monday, March 21 episode of “General Hospital” wherein Molly (Haley Pullos), TJ (Tajh Bellow) and Jordan (Tanisha Harper) had dinner at the Metro Court with Shawn as he was preparing to leave for an extended business trip you might have forgotten that Shawn’s portrayer, Sean Blakemore, recently announced he would be leaving the daytime drama series less than a year since returning on contract. “I appreciate you and ALL my wonderful supporters!” Blakemore told a fan last month on social media. “I was absolutely NOT let go. It was my decision to exit the show because of other obligations.” The show nor Blakemore has commented on the matter since then, but on Blakemore’s last day, the official Twitter handle for the soap did share some behind the scenes pictures of the actor posing with co-stars Pullos and Bellow. “The future’s looking bright for Shawn and his entire family,” read the caption for the post. While Monday’s episode marked the final appearance by Blakemore in the role, at press time there were no known plans by the show to recast, meaning that Shawn’s quick business trip could become permanent which isn’t surprising since he left Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) in charge of his media empire in Port Charles. Blakemore joined the cast of “General Hospital” in 2011, playing Sean Butler on the soap until 2015. He won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 2016 for his portrayal. He reprised the role for one episode in 2016 for a prison scene, appearing with Steve Burton’s Jason Morgan and Kelly Monaco’s Sam McCall. The character was doing time in Pentonville for shooting Hayden Barnes (Rebecca Budig), a crime he didn’t commit and was wrongfully convicted, albeit not many knew the truth at the time.
