Susan's shocked to see Michael back at work. He protests that not even his psychotic estranged wife can keep him from work. Susan giggles and asks if he has any plans for the 4th. He sighs, knowing that he has no plans, and tells her that he was thinking of taking a nice little road trip to Chciago. He asks if Susan would like to come, but Kim interrupts and tells them both that she won't hear of any of it. She wants them both to come by the house for the annual 4th of July barbecue.

Katie's touched by her mother's kind words and tells her that she knows that she's been through the ringer with men. However, she promises, this is the last time. She's finally found her equal in Brad. She doesn't have to worry about crazy sisters and long-lost diamonds and toolbelts and bunnies. All she has to worry about is her love for Brad. Lyla admits that Brad has grown on her, but she encourages Katie to learn from her mistakes and know that just because she loves a man doesn't mean she has to marry him. Katie protests that she and Brad have a friendship, but they have more than that. They have a bond. Weary from arguing, Lyla gives Katie her blessing, but half-jokingly cracks that this is the last engagement of Katie's that she's going to give her blessings to. Katie smiles and thanks her mom, hugging her once again.

Barbara flips through her assistant's pile of paperwork and sends her off once again to make last minute arrangements for a fashion show. Paul learns that his mother sent new orders over and chuckles at the assistant's assertion that Barbara doesn't seem ill....she's still the shrewd dictator that hired her. Paul dismisses her and sees Rosanna pacing outside. Rosanna bursts in and tells Paul that she just did some checking and it seems that Cabot's adoptive parents were killed in a car crash recently. Paul takes Rosanna in tow and they dash to the police station in search of some answers. After learning of Casey's accident and Margo's absence, Paul resolves to handle this on his own. Rosanna frets that the way James was talking led her to believe the worst and now, it's all playing out brilliantly like a James Stenbeck scheme. Paul turns to Rosanna and vows that James isn't going to do anything to Cabot...not if he has anything to do with it.

As a nurse sets his food tray down, Casey picks through his spinach. Margo smiles, remembering her late night fights with Casey when he was an infant and refused to eat his vegetables. Margo looks at Casey and remembering how innocent he once was, she starts to cry. Casey asks his mom what has her so upset, but Margo replies that she's just so happy to see him in front of her right now. Casey shamefully admits that what he did was a mistake and he's the biggest idiot for endangering his life like that all because of Sofie leaving. Margo steps outside and runs into Kim. For a little while, they both bond over how much their sons have changed. While Kim can't believe her son would ever endanger his father to get what he wanted, Margo laments that she never thought she would see Casey get drunk and take sleeping pills to numb the loss of a girl he loved that left him for another man. Kim gives the ultimate "kiddo" speech to Margo, telling her that Chris is behind bars and won't see daylight for some time now. However, she strictly points, Casey's right there in that hospital room. The best thing she can do for him right now is be there for him, even when he might scream that he doesn't need her. The truth is, she points out, Casey needs her now more than she knows.

Lily finds Jade cleaning the expresso machine at Java and asks to speak with her. Jade sits down and asks her aunt what she needs to talk about. Lily tells her that Mr. Taylor called the house today looking for her. She wants to know why Jade's adoptive father would seem to be looking for her if things really are as Jade reported them. Jade reasons that when she left, she left without saying anything to anyone. Her argument with the Taylors was the fiercest one yet. Jade hangs her head and admits that she slapped Mrs. Taylor, but reasons that it was only because she said hurtful things about Rose. Lily softens at the mention of her departed twin's name and demans her niece make things right with the Taylors. She tells Jade that even though she might have never known her real mother, Rose, the Taylors cared for her all her life. The least that she can do, Lily points out, is make things right with them. Jade agrees. Later, Lily informs Jade that Kevin hasn't quit calling him. Jade wonders aloud what he might want and Luke reveals that Kevin wants him to tag along for the fireworks show at the marina on the 4th. Jade knows that Kevin has feelings for Luke. She knows that neither side seems ready to admit those feelings, and encourages Luke to go with Kevin to the marina. Hopefully, she vaguely urges, the two of them can have a good time and wait for fireworks.
