ATWT: The Slasher Strikes Again

I like that they have different cast members doing the announcement of the next episode....

I also like how they are gradually changing the mid program bumpers adding other folks... I do notice that they keep the focus on the younger cast members when they show the bumpers...

The Gwen/Will/Jade stuff was terrific this week. I like Jade, even though I'm rooting for Gwen and Will. The teen set needed a pot stirrer and she's a good one.

I also really loved seeing Barbara again!

I do miss Paul and Emily though, I'm glad they'll be back next week!

I'm loving the teen slasher s/l this summer, and I have Louie the Toad pegged as Maddie's rapist with Eve as the slasher. The teens are all wonderful actors, and I congratulate the ATWT casting directors for finding them. Much better than those clinkers of last year, Celia and Raffi (the second one, the first one was pretty good). To add to the summer fun is the return of that Aussie hunk Simon, and the fun he's having with Carly. Paul/Emily/Meg are good too, though I wish they were on more. My only disappointment this summer has been Damien's return. I've always liked the character and the actor Paolo Seganti, but not what they're writing for him in this incarnation. Also, it's taking away from Luke's gay s/l which was very good. Oh, and another complaint, but not just for this summer, is about Mike and Katie. C'mon guys, they're the most boring couple in soaps. The only s/l they seem to have is sex everywhere and all the time. ZZZZZ. With those exceptions ATWT has rocked this summer.

EG is awesome as Jade -- she just delivers those zingers like no one else on the show. (TD does the same thing but his lines are funny, while Jade's are biting.) I love the way the she can act sympathetic and in the next line shoot off a great one-liner. Loved Gwen smacking her at Crash! The teens are doing are great job. How refreshing to see a group of teen actors that can act! Each of them has a distinct personality with little quirks. I hope we have "good" Babs around for awhile. Although I'd love to see Babs and Jade go a couple of rounds. LOL. I'm disappointed with the Damian/Lucy/Luke story. Damian and Lucy actually had potential. PS is a gift actor -- I think part of the problem is that he received a movie offer and the show changed the story to let him do it. I'm still digging Carly and Simon. It was so great seeing MW dressed up for a change. I hope this story keeps developing. A pretty good week.

Okay, I’m watching ATWT for the first time in a long time right now. Friday’s episode is indeed pretty good. Not too fond of teen-overload as evidenced here but the whole teen-horror-flick setting is used surprisingly well. Love the dramatic music!

Lobster-loving the actress who plays Gwen as usual. Apart from that, I was hoping to see some of the vets. At least Barbara was on...

But HOLDEN, DAMIEN - what have the behind the scenes people done to these man!? Both look hideous to death - eww, that make-up and hair. Holden looks like a transvestite whereas Damien is just downright creepy. And what have they done to the latter character anyway? Just blandly judging from this one episode I somehow doubt that Pauo Seganti will be around much longer in Oakdale.

This show is too dominated by teens. I'm kind of apprehensive about this b/c I don't want ATWT to turn into one of those "fangurls" soaps. It looks like this slasher storyline might do that though. But I guess if it helps the ratings, it's okay...just not the road I wanted to see my soap take.

What the hell have they done to Will? He's so unlikable now. :( I think Jade is the murderer, but that she's going to pin it on Will. That way, Jade will still be on the show (since I think she's a decent character), and since Oakdale is filled w/ criminals anyway, why couldn't she get away w/ it too? She could just admit to Will that she did it to get back at him, and not be arrested or whatever.

I'm going to start supporting a Damian/Lucy pairing just b/c I cannot stand Dusty. This man has no purpose on the show.

Katie is stupid...just stupid. I cannot watch her scenes anymore b/c she and Mike are just so DUMB!! I feel like my IQ drops 10 points everytime I watch those two losers. Having a baby to prove that you're not in love w/ your ex-husband is beyond pathetic! Nobody should ever do that! That's why there's so many neglected children in the world.

Damian's return was really lackluster to me. I thought it'd be a lot better than it has been. Overall, the Snyder's storyline is the best on the show. The slasher storyline is good, but it's on too much for me to enjoy it. The rest of the show is very blah. Carly and Simon are watchable, but the Matie and PEM crap is too much.

Damian and Lucy had amazing potential and I do think TPTB noticed it which is why we got a lot of scenes with them that we didn't necessarily need like the KISS. The show is only 3 weeks ahead so they have time to go back and change and re write things as they go along; Damian/Lucy being one of them IMO.

Personally, I feel Paolo Seganti has done wonders for Spencer Grammer. He's brought her out of her shell and her scenes with him are magnificant to watch. Watching her with him and other people is like night and day. He just makes me so much more interested in her as Lucy.

And whether it's creepy or not, Paolo and Spencer have A LOT of chemistry together. Whether it was intentional on the writers part, I don't know, but I think it was very unexpected and those are the types of romances that work for me......the unexpected chemistry, the one you didn't plan.

Then I was reading this interview with Paolo and Jon Hensely and this statement made me wonder if a Lucy/Damian romance was Paolo's idea. Take a look.

Soap Opera Digest: Do you have any plans for Father's Day?

Jon Hensley: This week, I'm going to an event that my son and his classmates are putting together at his school. All the fathers are being surprised. He's 5. So I'm looking forward to it. As is he.

Paolo Seganti: I have a father/daughter dance that I'm looking forward to. My daughter didn't want to because she knew I was in New York working. I said, "Sweetie, you can dress me and I'll be your perfect date. Whatever you want." So she's all excited.

Hensley: Our kids are the same age. He has a girl, 7, and we both have boys who are 4 and 1/2, 5.

Digest: Jon, have you done the father/daughter dance?

Hensley: Yeah, I went to a sock hop a couple of months ago.

Seganti: What is that?

Hensley: A '50s sock hop, where the girls get dressed up in the little dresses with their hair up.

Seganti: So how do you dance? You pick her up? I don't know what I'm doing.

Hensley: We did square dancing, they give the girls hula hoops.... All the fathers wear leather jackets and there are no mothers allowed.

Seganti: Yeah, it's just us!

Digest: What should Luke get Holden and Damian for Father's Day?

Hensley: He's probably gonna get me a new hair-coloring kit.

Seganti: He could show up with a good-looking girl for Damian.

Digest: Does Damian have a romantic interest yet?

Seganti: I think I saw somebody that I'm interested in, so I'll talk to Chris [Goutman, executive producer] [laughs]. We'll see. Every time he's around, he has to mess some things up and create drama, so I'm sure it'll be more than just Luke to fight over. I should propose a storyline: He should start dating Lucinda. He needs somebody on his side.

Hensley: She's not, though. She's on Holden's side.

Digest: So Lucinda could go after Holden.

Hensley: We've come really close the last couple of months [laughs].

Seganti: Darn, you beat me to it!

I'm sad Damian's leaving again but I agree, they let him out to do this movie/mini series but I have no doubt he'll be back by November Sweeps again. At least, I hope so. Love him!

Louis isn't the slasher for me..I know he raped Maddie, however, as one poster said, Eve isn't all that sweet and helpful. In fact, she seems to spend more and more of her time dipping into conversations; I think there is more to Eve than we realize..I wouldn't pin Louis as the slasher yet...As far as I can see Louis is just an annoying "Know it all" that wants to keep Maddie from telling on him.

I agree! My money is on Jade or Eve as the slasher. Louis (gosh, he's sooo annoying) just wants to keep Maddie's mouth closed about the rape.

I am greatly disappointed in how they brought Damien back on. If they would have left the story mainly focused on Luke's homosexuality, rather than suddenly dropping the ball and turning it into him needing money to get goons off his back, I would have been more interested.

The way they started out was great; instead of throwing in a fake illness to get Luke to focus on him; he could have simply just kept turning Luke against Holden in his attempt to get him to that conversion camp. It would have been a good way to bring back Dr. Kreeger into the picture and blackmail Damien for cash, or else he would reveal to Holden that it was Damien that concocted the whole scheme and he played the part in Lily's fall down the stairs. It would have kept him on longer (JMHO) and it would have been great to see Martha get to work with Paolo more...They could have still had Damien whisking Luke off somewhere, with Holden, Lily and Lucinda following behind him to stop him from his plan.

Because they suddenly gave him some mock illness, once again, Luke's homosexuality isn't dealt with (meaning, Damien's not coming to terms with it).

Plus, they could have found many other ways to put Dusty and Lucy together; they didn't need Damien to do that.

What the hell have they done to Will? He's so unlikable now.

I was watching some episodes of ATWT from around the time Jesse Soffer first took over the role of Will and he was just so intriguing to watch back then! :( He had serious issues but he was so much more cool and collected back then..or at least he tried to act that way..so you never quite knew if he was being genuine or being completely manipulative. When they started getting him more involved with Alison, his insecurities and problems escalated but they never tried to paint him as someone who was right for Ali. If I remember correctly, TPTB did a great job showing how volatile the relationship could be. Since they hooked him up with Celia and later on, Gwen...he's become even more whiny and immature and what really grates is that they try to sell him and Gwen as this great love story..and I'm just not seeing or feeling it at all.

I'm going to start supporting a Damian/Lucy pairing just b/c I cannot stand Dusty. This man has no purpose on the show.
Hear, hear! I also agree with whoever said that Damian & Lucy have a lot of chemistry. The way he looked at her after he grabbed her when she tried to take a blood test was HOT. :o I remember their first scene together..it really looked like Damian was hitting on Lucy..and I'm still not sure if the director wanted it that way.

Katie is stupid...just stupid. I cannot watch her scenes anymore b/c she and Mike are just so DUMB!! I feel like my IQ drops 10 points everytime I watch those two losers. AMEN!!!

Carly and Simon are watchable, but the Matie and PEM crap is too much.

Simon & Carly would be even better if Matie were completely out of their orbits.

I agree the teens have completely taken over the show...they are on pretty much everyday and almost in every scene now. Unfortunately, I don't like this teen scene that much..I like Casey & Gwen together but when they're with Maddie & Will respectably, I just don't care to watch either of them. Both Maddie & Will grate on my nerves. I love Jade & Luke...and I absolutely love watching them in scenes together...but they're not in as many scenes with each other like they used to be.

I wish Damian had been shown more respect as a character this time around. They always do this when actors return short-term - they're used to prop the contract characters, often at the expense of their own. See Paul Leyden's return in 2004.

I found this clip from Damian's plane crash in 1996, when his life flashes before his eyes. It was nice to see some of the moments I've read about (Orlena's suicide, him getting shot). But it made me sad because he obviously has a very rich history on this show and I would've liked to see more use of that. Also, he and Lily look HOT. http://membres.lycos.fr/paoloseganti/flashback.html

I loved the potential between him and Lucy. They have great chemistry and are very sexy together. The flirtation and kiss were HOT. I agree with the poster who said Paolo brought out the best in Spencer, and I would've loved to see a real romance.

I agree the teens have completely taken over the show...they are on pretty much everyday and almost in every scene now.

Well, their summer storyline is beginning its climb up to the climax, so I expect them to be on almost every day -- because I'm betting in about 2-3 weeks, it will be over. Then it will go into dealing with the aftermath, and we'll see them a few times a week instead, while someone else's story is front-burner and they're on every day (my guess is Matie/Simon/Carly).

That said, I actually don't think they're spending *enough* time on Maddie, and they're not doing a good job of keeping her fixable while also making her the red herring. The girl needs to be in therapy, at the bare minimum, or Henry/Eve need to stop wringing their hands over her and MAKE her go. That was the only point where I thought the insufferable Louis was right.
