Sometime back weeks ago,I mentioned I haven't seen a new cover of SOD and SOW for awhile in the retail stores like supermarkets and Walmart which was weird to me.Now with DAYS being on the August 15,2006 cover and GH on the SOW cover respectively now it seems like all of a sudden I see them in the supermarket again.I had a thought on a theory of why the stores in my town didn't carry the mags because maybe they didn't contain GH and DAYS on the covers or even AMC/Y&R.We know that DAYS and GH sell the most covers.I spot a couple of weeks ago that ATWT was on the cover with Mike/Katie/Simon on the cover in the library not in the supermarkets or Walmart.I guess ATWT doesn't sell covers like DAYs,GH,Y&R,and AMC.How weird and yet I like DAYS,GH,Y&R,AMC,and ATWT.As petty as it may sound but I think that's why the mags haven't been in some retail stores for awhile because a certain soap is on the cover and they think it won't sell.Or maybe i'm just wrong altogether. What does everybody on the board think about this topic.

Hi Guys,

I didn't get a copy of Soap Opera Weekly last week, (the DOOL cover with Sami on it). I'm not sure why, but I did get a new copy for this week (GH Ric sleeps with Sam). I live in the Sacramento California and looked serveral places, including Wal-mart and Safeway and still wasn't able to find it. It's funny because they had the new Soap Opera Digest, but no Soap Opera Weekly. I don't know what happened with last week's magazine, but I'm just concern about the distrubution because it seems like more stores, groceries included usually gets Soap Opera Digest than Soap Opera Weekly. I like SOW since in my opinion it focuses more on the stories for the week vs SOD. Its really interesting because SOD and SOW are published by the same company. I might actually contact the publishing company to let them know what's going on.

I will never buy the theory that certain soaps don't sell magazines. There may have been some data around that 20 years ago, but they sure as hell can't have any data these days. It's been years that Days, GH or Y&R were on every cover so they can't say the other shows don't sell, they've never been given a chance. Viewing habits have shifted. If they wanted to stop their declining circulation, they would consider changing things up a bit.

Personally I'd like to see an (e-zine as I call it) that is the same as the magazine only in an electronic format. This would be great because you pay a subscription, get the magazine electronically, able to read it online (or download it to your computer in a word or pdf format). This would save the hassle of of buying the magazine each week, hoping the store you go to has received it from the distributor.

I know that I could subscribe to the magazine, but sometimes they are delivered later than when the stores receive it. It's also not the same as a magazine that you could take anywhere you went.

Just my two cents. I'm curious what are the other board members thoughts on this.

that would most likely never happen bc sales would go down bc with that method it could easily be distributed for free across the internet. People wouldnt have a reason to even go out and buy the mags again

So far this year with SOD (counting 8/15 cover), it's been (diff. than on-stand covers they sent to SODs by-mail customers are not counted - that was like 2 ATWT covers and 1 GL cover? The 2 multi-show covers they had that I have are not counted. I don't have the 1/24, 1/31, 2/21, 2/28 issues of SOD so that's also not counted):

9 GH Covers

8 Y&R Covers

6 DAYS Covers

2 AMC Covers

1 B&B Cover

ETA: I can just imagine the ABC:SID count - I'm guessing in a years time it's 20 GH covers 2 AMC Covers, 2 OLTL covers, 2 Multi-Show Covers.

I've been having the same trouble but I assumed it was because I live in the second circle of hell. :P The magazines (SOD AND SID's) in the Walmart and grocery stores here are from June and I haven't even seen a new SOW here in months......I keep meaning to ask why but haven't remembered when I've been in the stores. I came back from vacation in Georgia today and was able to buy the last two issues of SOW, SOD and CBS SID at the Books a Million there. I subscribed to all three at one time but I always got my issue a week after it was on the newstands so everything was old news when I got it. I didn't see the point in paying for old news.
