All: What is ruining your show

So it's a self fulfilling prophecy. Because they can't be innovative and creative enough to produce a quality product they doom themselves to failure.

Exactly.

I do want to say something though: Brian Frons does love daytime and he is very passionate about its survival. From what I've seen and heard over his years at ABC I remain unconvinced that he has much use for All My Children and One Life to Live, but I do not know that for a fact. Regardless, he does want the genre to thrive. But he just does not get it. He has the best of intentions, but has gone about it all wrong.

Of course that provides little solace for the ABC fans :(

Wow, Wiccachick, your post was excellent!

Thanks, LookingGlass, for the backstage insight. It doesn't make AMC any easier to endure these days, but it does explain why it's gone so far downhill.

I don't think I'm going to be posting here much longer because I'm getting too involved and I never intended to even post, just read, but I do want to say that if you, or anyone here, are in the demographic ABC covets and you're not happy WRITE THE NETWORK. They will listen if you are the right gender and age. One problem is that those who are more likely to write well thought out letters to the network are the viewers outside of the prime demo whereas as the younger viewers tend to write the actors, or e-mails to the show.

And of course you can always lie and say you're younger than you actually are :)

A few years ago, AMC was so great. What moment for you changed it? From what i have read and seen most people have taken a dislike to it. What was the moment that made it change for you?

For me, it was all the stories surronding babies. I loved the Bianca/Babe story. After that it became too much. So I guess the moment that Greg Madden came on and was shoved into the Greenlee/Kendall storyline, the unabortion, and the Erica/Dixie storyline changed it for me. It has just dropped the story way downhill which sucks because I love Ian Bucananan and think they wasted him.

About ALL MY CHILDREN:

This new FILM STOCK look is not very popular. They should work more on the writing of this show and stop with the gimmicks. It's not working.

I know how you feel. I get involved, upset and flustered all the time too. That should mean something to all the people involved with the program though. People CARE about these characters and actors and they really want Pine Valley to be around for many years to come.

I am in the correct demographic and I have written letters to the head writer. I guess I will have to try and get the attention of people a little higher on that food chain! LOL.

On AMC, the decline began when Ryan turned into a complete jerk and then became the focus of the show. The show then hit rock bottom and below with the un-abortion and complete darkness and loss of central theme that made the show famous. I tuned out when I learned what was going to happen with Josh and have not been back to Pine Valley since.

After a long boycott of GH, I excitedly tuned back in for the return of the 'legacy characters' and the virus outbreak. I was presently surprised to find the show actually somewhat enjoyable again...then Sonny's breakdown began and I was quickly fed up again. The ultimate level of disgust for me was killing off Justus.

On GUIDING LIGHT, I never recovered from the Maryanne Carruthers debacle. The introduction of Jonothan pulled me back in, but then the budget cuts hit, along with the apparent creative meltdown of David Kreizman. Call me superficial, but I cannot stand the current obvious cheap look of the program.

On BOLD & BEAUTIFUL, the return to the Brooke/Ridge storyline resulted in my remote turning to CNN.

PSNS:

Lack of payoffs. Gwen's gotten away with her [!@#$%^&*] for seven years while deluding herself into thinking that she's the innocent victim. Twice JER has hinted at her reveal, and both times ended up with a big dud. If JER doesn't even acknowledge that Gwen knew about Theresa's rape and did nothing during the reveal, I'm gonna have to hunt him down and rewrite the script. Then we have Miss Kay Bennett. I don't buy this good girl, I've changed bullshit. She doesn't deserve Fox or Miguel. Hell, a hole in the head is too good for that character. Once again, we've suffered the no payoff syndrome. This girl attempted to kill her cousin numerous times, raped Miguel, and lied about David and Grace's non-marriage because she was angry. The worst part is that only Tabitha knows about her misdeeds. Fox knew for a moment then she turned back time to make him forget. That doesn't count! If you're gonna make her suddenly good, have EVERYTHING come out.

Also on GH, the brutal and totally unnecessary rape of Emily. Jill Farren Phelps is such a monster.

GH: The propping of some and the destruction of others. I will forever hate who they love (Sonny, Emily, etc) and will forever love who they hate (AJ, Zander, Stefan). TPTB and the fans, for the most part, are watching the show in two completely different ways. Also lack of balanced airtime.

AMC: More horrid propping (coughcoughCAREYWOMENcoughcough) and rewriting historic events. Stupid.

DOOL: How many soaps have to abuse BW, story/contract wise?!?! And how many times can the same soap screw Matt Ashford? The hell with these people. Also the constant Shelle forcing makes me want to vomit. Those two are the furthest away from true love that I've ever seen. You don't make out with eachother while the chick's husband is getting paralyzed. Bad writing and a lot of bad acting.

PSNS: lol

Six months and counting of being AMC free. I've seen scenes from 4 episodes via clips, but I haven't watched nor taped in six months of July 30th and I don't ever plan to watch as long as Josh is on the screen. At least I'm not alone. :)

I will give a rundown of the shows I have watched for part of this year (currently only watching ATWT - and below is part of the reason I turned the others off):

AMC - too many rewrites of history esp. the Josh storyline; and way too much wasted talent on the show; and 3rdly a loss of nice love stories (hate Jonathan & Lily and Babe & JR - they are terrible couples together)

Days - never thought I could turn you off, part of it was due to scheduling, but even trying to get back into it is not working. The big thing is a ghost writer who was not good. A boring story for Patch & Kayla - a couple I never liked anyway. Writing off John & Marlena when they could have been seen but backburnered instead. Making Hope pregnant with Patrick's child. The only high point for me has been the EJ character, and the return of Jack on Frankie & Jenn's wedding, and I never have liked Jack & JEnn together, so didn't really want Jack to return to the show.

GH - too much of Sonny & Carly; too much emphasis on the mob again; too many failed returns, and too much emphasis on sweeps months. The rewrite of history of many old faves too was the starting point for me.

OLTL - Dena Higley's writing is the big thing here. She is destroying this show. And way too much emphasis on her characters, and her ruining of many of the characters I love.

For these shows, I don't know if I will ever be back. I quit watching AMC in February; quit GH in May; quit OLTL in June; and quit Days in July.

The technique IMO was one of the factors in the failure of THE CITY to catch on...I know of a number of people who were turned off for some reason by it.

As for the program formerly known as AMC, perhaps TPTB shoudl stop concentrating on gimmicks and try producing tasteful stories again.

Wow! I guess I'm the only one who digs the hand held Filmlook, film stock, faux film WHATEVER thing that they're doing.

Oh, well. I guess if enough people complain, they'll remove the sole thing I enjoy about this shitfest.

Nope I like the new film look too, the shakiness was bad today though

I also like the new look, although I agree that today was particularly shaky for some strange reason.
